Abstract

Observasi peneliti pada sebuah kampus yang terletak di wilayah Malang selatan yaitu IAI Al-Qolam Malang menemukan bahwa pada Program Studi Tadris Bahasa Inggris belum memiliki buku ajar yang sesuai untuk mata kuliah writing dikarenakan jurusan ini masih baru berdiri tepatnya pada tahun 2015. Kebutuhan akan ketersediaan buku ajar untuk mata kuliah writing yang sesuai pada Program Studi Tadris Bahasa Inggris mendorong peneliti untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar untuk pengajaran writing. Langkah analisis buku yang tersedia pada took-toko buku terdekat sudah dilaksanakan dengan cara mengunjungi tooko-toko buku yang ada di Malang. Pada langkah ini, peneliti menemukan beberapa buku writing yang tersedia pada toko-toko buku terdekat dari kampus IAI Al-Qolam kurang sesuai dengan kurikulum Tadris Bahasa Inggris IAI Al-Qolam. Seiring dengan kondisi tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan buku ajar untuk mata kuliah writing 1 Tadris Bahasa Inggris IAI Al-Qolam yang akan dipergunakan oleh mahasiswa semester 3. Kurikulum Tadris Bahasa Inggris IAI AL-Qolam merupakan pedoman materi yang dipergunakan dalam penulisan buku ajar ini. Terdapat 12 bab yang bisa dipergunakan untuk mendampingi mahasiswa dalam perkuliahan writing selama satu semester. Buku ajar untuk mata kuliah writing ini di tulis dengan melalui beberapa tahapan. Tahapan-tahapan itu adalah “validasi dari para ahli, uji coba lapangan dan perbaikan-perbaikan berdasarkan dari saran-saran ahli serta hasil pengamatan lapa-ngan agar buku ajar lebih siap digunakan. Produk dari penelitian pengembangan ini diharapkan mampu memberikan kontribusi yang positif terhadap para dosen dan mahasiswa agar dapat melaksanakan kegiatan pembelajaran dengan baik. Abstract

Teaching and learning English generally occur in classroom. However, actually it can occur outside classroom like independent learning where students prefer their own way to learn. Recently, in this modern era, technology has spread all over the world and be used by any age of people either worker or learners. For learners, technology is good equipment that can help them to learn. One feature in technology which is generally used by many students is Facebook. They use Facebook more often than learning lesson in classroom. In this case, researcher tried to investigate the use of Facebook in learning English and to know how effective it is. This research was conducted in IAI Al-Qolam which the participants were 30 students. The researcher here was a lecturer who observed and guided students to follow the research program. Participants were lead to participate actively in FB group called as EDG (English Department Group). In this group, researcher as well as Lecturer guided students to discuss any interesting topic by sharing any articles, made some writings or comment their friends writing. Students perceptions were measured by using 13 questionnaires related to the students usage of Facebook group. As a result, students enjoy discussing and learning using FB group. It is shown from their comments written on their FB group wall. The finding shows that Facebook group is an effective tool for students to improve their writing skill. This finding is benefitful for teachers as a guide for using ICT for teaching and learning process

Abstract

Interesting Phenomenon in an Islamic place called ?Pondok Pesantren? which is located in Sananrejo village Turen district region of Malang attracts many attentions to a large of citizens. It is issued that the Pondok Pesantren which is well known with the term Pondok Pesantren Bih?r Bahr ?Asal Fadl?il al-Rahmah is a Mosque which is built by spirit where many people called them as ?Jin?. In this case, this research is eager to investigate the motivation which become the background of establishing the Pondok Pesantren, how the proses of constructing this huge building with eleven floors and more than one hectare area of building; how the belief and characters which is taught in this Pondok Pesantren; and how the typology as well as ideology of Santri in this Pondok Pesantren.  This research applies descriptive qualitative method by which the data collection is carried out using observation and interview. This also brings out phenomenology approach to reveal the ideology of the santris of Bih?r Bahr ?Asal Fadl?il al-Rahmah. Based on the result of observation and interview conducted and analyzed by the researcher, Santris of this Salaf? Pesantren which is often visited by many visitors, and even foreigners from any regions, show polite attitude. This behaviour has become the tradition and culturally implemented by all of Santris in this pesantren toward any visitors. Keywords: Typology, Santri, Pondok Pesantren

Abstract

Reading comprehension is the ability to analyze and understand the text in some reading context. This ability is taught to generalize the ability and share information in the reading context. In this research, the researcher applied Jigsaw Technique to solve the problems that were faced by the students. This research was conducted in order to improve students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text through Jigsaw Technique in the first grade students of SMA NU AL-FUDLOLI Ganjaran Gondanglegi Malang 2017-2018. In conducting this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of research. The researcher conducted this research in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of three meetings. The researcher used Jigsaw Technique to make pleasant atmosphere during teaching and learning process of reading, and more importantly to improve the students’ reading comprehension especially on reading descriptive text. The subject of this research was the students of first grade students in SMA NU AL-FUDLOLI. The instruments to collect the data were interview, observation checklist, and reading test. The result of this research showed that by using Jigsaw Technique in teaching reading descriptive text, the researcher could improve the student’s reading comprehension especially descriptive text. Their responses showed that they were interested to learn reading subject because they felt easier to read using Jigsaw Technique. Based on the result of cycle 1 the average of their score is 67. The result of cycle 2, the average of their score is 76.

Abstract

In this research, the researcher applied Small Group Discussion to overcome the problems that were faced by the students. This research was conducted in order to improve students’ reading ability in descriptive text through Small Group Discussion at the seventh grades of MA Al-Hisi Ringinsari Sumbermanjing Wetan 2016-2017. In conducting this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of research. The researcher conducted this research in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of three meetings. The researcher used Small Group Discussion to create comfortable atmosphere during teaching and learning process of reading, and more importantly to improve the students’ reading ability especially on reading descriptive text. The subject of this research was the students of seventh grade at MA Al-Hisi Ringinsari Sumbermanjing Wetan 2016-2017 on academic year especially VII IPA class. The instruments to collect the data were interview, observation checklist, and reading test. The result of the research showed that by using Small Group Discussion in teaching reading descriptive text. The researcher could improve the student’s reading ability especially descriptive text. Their responses showed that they were interested to learn reading subject because they felt easier to read using Small Group Discussion.

Abstract

One among many indicators of successful second language acquisition (SLA) is the ability to speak in the target language since learner’s ability in producing a speech implies that they have a good communicative competence. This study was a kind of correlational research designed which focused on knowing the correlation between students’ self-esteem as independent variable and speaking ability as dependent variable which used quantitative method. Based on the degree of correlation coefficient, value 0,763 of the correlation coefficient showed that there was a strong or highly significant positive correlation between students’ self-esteem and students’ speaking skill. From the result, it can be said that self-esteem influenced or related with speaking skill. Theoretically, self-esteem take a role to manage, maintain, and develop students by the challenges of learning goals. Besides, this proof also expects special attention to aspects of psychology that can be started by the teacher itself. So, the results of learning will also be more maximal and can be designed the right learning method.

Abstract

The need of listening textbook is not balanced with the available listening book on market, bookstore and education ministry department. This research produces a listening textbook which is based on researcher need analysis. The result of preliminary study conducted in 10 Junior High Schools in Malang shows that the need of listening textbook is considered important. The available textbook is not supported by material in form of audio and video. Teacher feels difficult to find any sources to teach listening. By conducting this research, it is expected to help English teacher to teach listening well. The result of this research is a product in form of textbook that can be used by English teacher to teach Listening skill. The design of this research is Research and Development that is well known as R and D. Research and Development (R&D) is a process or steps to develop or to revise a product. The product is not only in form of software program like program in computer to analyze the data, but also in form of textbook, module, some equipment in laboratory, library, management and etc. In this research, the product is in form of a textbook. By having this product, the students will be able to learn listening better because this product is completed with some interesting pictures, good audio and appropriate material that will be validated by some experts. For sure, since the process of making this product is passing many steps, the researcher believe that this product is good for students. It supplies the need of Eight grade students of Junior High School. Each chapter of the book presents some pictures which the students have already known or the pictures easily found by the students in their real life or environment. It also presents some exercises, like translating and matching words to test the students’ understanding about the lesson in each chapter. Covering speaking aspect, the textbook delivers conversation to train the students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

Tehnik mengajar Mind-Mapping telah terbukti efektif pada penelitianpenelitian sebelumnya. Di antaranya adalah penelitian yang dilaksanakan oleh Nurlaila (2013) pada SMP dalam pengajaran teks deskriptif. Kemudian Irwandi (2012) menguji coba teknik Mind-Mapping dalam pengajaran deskriptif teks di SMA yang berkesimpulan sukses. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti ingin menguji coba Teknik Mind-Mapping dalam pengajaran deskriptif teks pada level yang berbeda, yaitu di tingkat perguruan tinggi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada mahasiswa jurusan PAI semester 2 IAI Al-Qolam Gondanglegi. Sample yang diambil adalah kelas A dan B dengan jumlah masing-masing 25 mahasiswa. Kedua kelas diberikan pre-test, dan hasilnya, kedua kelas memiliki kemampuan yang seimbang dalam hal menulis Bahasa Inggris. Kelas A adalah grup eksperimen yang dalam proses belajar mengajar, metode yang digunakan adalah Mind-Mapping. Kelas B adalah grup kontrol yang dalam pembelajarannya menggunakan teknik tradisional. Di akhir pembelajaran, kedua regu diberi post-test untuk mengukur seberapa jauh keberhasilan mahasiswa dalam menulis paragraf deskriptif setelah mendapatkan perlakuan yang berbeda. Peneliti juga memberikan angket motivasi belajar untuk mengontrol apakah motivasi belajar juga memberikan dampak pada pencapaian mahasiswa. Hasil dari post-test dan motivasi belajar secara simultan menjelaskan bahwa perlakuan pada pembelajaran dan motivasi yang berbeda berpengaruh terhadap prestasi mahasiswa. Kata kunci: Mind Mapping, Teknik tradisional dan Motivasi.

Abstract

Al-Munawwariyyah Islamic Boarding School is a modern boarding school which provide complete and luxurious facilities. However, This Quranic Boarding school has the tradition of gasab. Gasab is the activity of taking, using and bringing any things belongs to other people without any permission from the owner. The result of interview between researcher and santri showed that not all of santris eager to do gasab. New santris are reluctant to do gasab although they are often becoming the victim of gasab because they are afraid to use anything belongs to other without any permission from the owner. Senior Santri is those who are often and eager to do gasab because they were tired if they have to buy any goods which is lost caused gasab. The effect of one gasab will encourage the other people to do one. Thus, this tradition will last long.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of using the TikTok platform on the reading habits of MA Nurul Ichsan students. The background of this research is the increasing popularity of social media, which potentially shifts students’ traditional reading interest. The study employed a descriptive method with data collected through questionnaires and observations involving students of grades X, XI, and XII. The findings reveal that the majority of students experienced a decline in reading interest after actively using TikTok. A total of 90.4% of respondents reported decreased reading motivation, with 57.1% rarely reading books outside school hours, and 60% facing concentration difficulties after using the application. Furthermore, 80% of students preferred entertainment content over educational content. Although 5% of students felt motivated to seek reading material from TikTok content, the negative effects remain more dominant. This research highlights the importance of the roles of teachers and parents in guiding students to use social media wisely and in fostering consistent reading habits.
