Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to find out the students’ perceptions of the use Power Point slide show for teaching English in the classroom. The population was the students of Madrasah TsanawiyahNegeriRasau Jaya in academic year 2012/2013 with a total number of 276 students. Then, the researcher chose seventh grade of MTs NegeriRasau Jaya students as the sample for this study. The tools used in collecting the data were questionnaire and interview technique (mixed method). The result of data analysis is first, some students of seventh grade of MTs.NegeriRasau Jaya perceived that the use of PowerPoint slide show had positive side, it was proved from the result of mean score from all participants reported that 4, 03 of the students perceived PowerPoint slide show is positive to be used because PowerPoint slide show can improve students’ grade. Also interactiononand communication between teachers and students became more interesting, joyful and relax. The second, there were some of students of seventh grade of MTs.NegeriRasau Jaya also perceived that the use of PowerPoint slide show had negative side, it was proved from the result of mean score from all participants that the mean score is 3, 96. It means that the students are neither agree nor disagree to the statements because PowerPoint slide show cannot be used in any kind of situation especially when there was not electricity this media cannot be used for teaching English in the classroom.Keywords: Students’ Perceptions, Power Point, Teaching English

Abstract

Team Based Learning (TBL) is a teaching strategy where students work together in small groups on a structured activity and it is presumably able to enhance students’ learning motivation and learning outcome. The data of this study were collected by using questionnaire, observation, interview and diary which used successively. Descriptive statistic and constant comparative method were used to analyze the data.The data analysis revealed that (1) TBL can enhance students’ learning motivation (2) Difficulties of TBL when it was applied in enhancing students’ learning motivation.The results of this study implies that TBL is strongly eligible to be implemented to enhance students learning motivation at class 9D Junior High School at Sragen, Central Java. As some difficulties are found in implementing TBL to improve students’ learning motivation, it is important for the teachers to be able to identify the problems that they are facing while implementing TBL by referring to previous study, discussing with the other teachers asking directly to students what they are feeling when TBL was implementing.Keywords:Team Based Learning, Students’ Learning Motivation.

Abstract

Mengembangkan bahan ajar menggunakan metode Context Clues dalam peningkatan kemampuanketerampilan membaca pada mata kuliah Academic Reading mahasiswa prodi Pendidikan BahasaIKIP PGRI Pontianak. Metodologi penelitian ini adalah disain pengembangan dengan melaluitahapan yang terdiri dari Penelitian dan pengumpulan data yang meliputi pengukuran kebutuhan,studi literatur, penelitian dalam skala kecil, dan pertimbangan-pertimbangan dari segi nilai,perencanaan (planning), pengembangan draf produk, pengembangan bahan pembelajaran, prosespembelajaran, dan instrumen evaluasi, uji coba lapangan awal, merevisi hasil uji coba, uji cobalapangan utama, penyempurnaan produk hasil uji lapangan, uji pelaksanaan lapangan,penyempurnaan produk akhir, diseminasi dan implementasi. . Implikasi penerapan metode ContextClues dalam pembelajaran Academic Reading dapat meningkatkan daya berfikir kritis, analitisserta kemampuan membaca mahasiswa.Kata kunci : context clues, academic reading, pengembangan
