Abstract

Coronary heart disease is a serious medical condition characterized by narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, leading to decreased blood flow to the heart and a high risk of causing chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue and heart attack. In the elderly, coronary heart disease can worsen the quality of life and increase morbidity and mortality rates. The importance of health education and screening for apolipoprotein A (ApoA) and B (ApoB) in the elderly is crucial because the ApoA/ApoB ratio is an important indicator in monitoring the risk of heart disease. This community service activity aims to screen the ApoA/ApoB ratio as an indicator in monitoring the risk of heart disease in the elderly. With the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) approach, outreach, blood sampling, health education and evaluation of results are carried out to provide specific health recommendations. Screening results showed variations in the distribution of the ApoA/ApoB ratio between genders, emphasizing the importance of routine monitoring and healthy lifestyle interventions to prevent heart disease and improve the quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Adnexal mass (including mass in the ovary and fallopian tube) is one of the cases often found in obstetrics-gynecology clinics. The ovary can accommodate immature egg cells stored in the ovarian follicles. During the menstrual cycle, lumps originating from the membrane tissue, commonly called cysts, can form. The incidence of ovarian cysts is generally seen in the age group between 30 and 39 years. Approximately 4% of women will be hospitalized due to ovarian cysts occurring at the age of 65 years. This is because ovarian cysts rarely cause symptoms, and are usually found accidentally during a pelvic examination. This study aims to assess the distribution of ovarian tumors in various age groups based on histopathological examination at the Siloam Hospital. This study is a descriptive study. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 22.0 to assess the demographic characteristics and distribution of ovarian tumor types in various age groups based on histopathological examination. From 198 participants, the average age of participants was 39.25 years. The most common ovarian tumors were endometriosis cysts (48.5%), hemorrhagic lutein cysts (16.2%), and mature cystic teratomas (6.6%).  These findings suggest that benign ovarian tumors are more common, with endometriosis cysts being the most common in all age groups. Keywords: Ovarian Tumor, Adnexal Mass, Early Detection.

Abstract

Coronary heart disease (CHD) in the elderly represents the primary clinical manifestation of atherosclerosis and remains a leading cause of death and morbidity. This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the role of High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL), Apolipoprotein-A (APO-A), and Apolipoprotein-B (APO-B) in the diagnosis and prevention of CHD among the elderly population. The results demonstrated that both APO-A and HDL were significantly negatively correlated with CHD (r = -0.336, p = 0.008; r = -0.274, p = 0.032), suggesting that higher levels of APO-A and HDL are associated with a lower risk of CHD. Conversely, APO-B and LDL showed a significant positive correlation with CHD (r = 0.411, p = 0.001; r = 0.358, p = 0.005), indicating that elevated levels of APO-B and LDL are linked to an increased risk of CHD. These findings highlight that measuring Apolipoprotein A and B levels may offer more valuable insights into atherosclerotic and cardiovascular risk assessment and may enhance the effectiveness of CHD prevention compared to traditional lipid profiles.

Abstract

Liver function disorders often occur subclinically and remain undetected among adults, despite their potential to progress into chronic liver disease if not identified early. This community service program aimed to conduct liver function screening through the assessment of transaminase enzymes, namely Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT) and Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT), as an early detection effort using the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) approach. A total of 98 adult participants were involved, with a mean age of 43.67±12.40 years, and the majority were female (54.3%). Laboratory examination results showed mean SGOT and SGPT levels of 26.05±7.57 U/L and 27.97±8.19 U/L, respectively, which generally remained within the normal range. However, the distribution of SGOT and SGPT values demonstrated considerable variability among participants, indicating heterogeneity in liver health conditions within the population. These findings suggest that although most participants exhibited normal liver enzyme levels, there is still a possibility of subclinical liver function changes in some individuals that require further attention. Community-based screening has proven to be an effective strategy for early detection of liver health risks. Therefore, such activities should be followed by promotive and preventive interventions, including metabolic risk factor control, healthy dietary practices, increased physical activity, and health education to maintain optimal liver function and prevent the progression of liver disease in the future.

Abstract

Introduction: The third most common type of cancer and the second biggest killer of both men and women is colorectal cancer. Asia and Indonesia are two regions where this carcinoma is an issue. Purpose: To known distribution of gender, primary cancers site, differentiation status, and staging profile of colorectal carcinoma.Method: This research use descriptive observational methods. The Medical Record Tabulation Data of the Faculty of Medicine, UNTAR, from 2020 to 2023 provided the data for this study. Patients with colorectal carcinoma who underwent a routine histological examination met the inclusion criteria for this study. Gender, primary cancer site, differentiation status, and cancer staging profile (TNM classification) were the characteristics evaluated in this study. The statistical method utilized in this study was descriptive analysis. Result: The results of the study revealed that the average age of occurrence of colorectal carcinoma was 58.06 (13.08) years, dominated by male sex in 30 (58.8%) respondents, the most primary location was in the colon at 26 (52.0%) ) respondents, with generally good differentiation in 39 (76.5%) respondents. Conclusion: Colorectal carcinoma most often occurs in the colon and is generally well differentiated.
