Abstract

Poverty, divorce, and other problems in families in Indonesia is what makes it difficult for family to provide the needs of their children. So there are adolescents who live in orphanages. New situations, as well as changes in habits, are the results from the separation of children from their families. The lack of attention quality caused by the large difference in number between the caregiver and the teenager results in adolescents experiencing greater psychological pressure compared to adolescents who do not live in orphanages. To keep struggling under this pressure, adolescents need to have resilience in dealing with all those pressure. In addition, adolescents also need to have self-acceptance in living their daily lifes, because self-acceptance is also able to help adolescents to accept their strengths and weaknesses, and other person. Therefore, this study aims to determine the correlations between self-acceptance and resilience in adolescents living in Woro Wiloso orphanage, Salatiga. The methods used in this research was quantitative with a pearson correlation design. This research used non-probability sampling technique by involving 47 participants. The data were collected by using self-acceptance and resilience(questionnaire) scale. The result of this research showed that there was a correlation between self-acceptance and resilience in adolescents who live in orphanage (r-test = 0,282 with sig. = 0,055). The results of this study also reveals that the ability to overcome difficult situation is influenced by self-acceptance Keywords: Self-acceptance, Resilience, Adolescents, Orphanage

Abstract

The death of a spouse in middle adulthood can lead to changes in roles, increased responsibilities, and psychological as well as social challenges that affect the process of adjustment. In facing these circumstances, resilience is an important capacity that helps individuals endure and recover from experiences of grief. In addition, gratitude plays a significant role in enabling individuals to interpret the loss in a more adaptive manner. Therefore, this study aims to describe gratitude among middle-aged adults with high resilience following the death of a spouse. This research employed a qualitative approach using a phenomenological method. Participants were selected through purposive sampling, supported by quantitative screening to identify middle-aged adults with high levels of resilience. Data were collected through interviews and observations. The findings indicate that gratitude among middle-aged adults after the loss of a spouse is reflected in four main aspects and is influenced by factors such as well-being and religiosity. These findings suggest that gratitude helps individuals accept their loss and adaptively rebuild their lives following bereavement.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the dynamics of resilience in emerging adults following the death of a sibling. Loss during this developmental stage can trigger profound psychological disruption and the loss of a crucial emotional figure. The study employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, involving three participants, two males and one female, aged 22–24 years, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through face-to-face in-depth interviews recorded with a voice recorder with participants’ consent. The resulting verbatim transcripts were analyzed using categorization techniques, including open coding, theme grouping, and meaning-making, and were validated through member checking. The findings indicate that resilience is not a linear process, but rather a dynamic movement from acute emotional crisis toward meaning-making, adjustment, and acceptance. In the initial phase of loss, participants generally experienced anger, emotional emptiness, reduced self-control, and uncertainty about their ability to endure. Resilience then developed through spiritual, cultural, and rational meaning-making, accompanied by changes in family roles, strengthened independence, and increased self-efficacy. The study also specifically found that social support and new responsibilities were important factors in accelerating recovery. Thus, resilience in emerging adults after the death of a sibling emerges through the interaction of emotional processing, meaning construction, and environmental support that strengthen future orientation.

Abstract

The absence of a father figure (fatherless), either physically or emotionally, is an experience that may influence psychological development, particularly in the formation of attachment styles. This study explores the dynamics of anxious attachment toward romantic partners among emerging adult women experiencing fatherlessness. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied, with data collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and observation. Participants were selected purposively after screening with the Experiences in Close Relationships Scale–Revised (ECR-R). From 10 initial respondents, two women aged 20–25 were chosen as the main participants. Findings reveal that fatherlessness contributes to anxious attachment in romantic relationships, reflected in a negative self-model, fear of abandonment, high emotional dependency, and difficulties in emotion regulation. Both participants showed similar patterns, though they differed in how anxiety was expressed, such as emotional intensity or repeated reassurance-seeking. These results highlight the significance of early paternal absence in shaping adult attachment and suggest implications for psychological counseling to support healthier and more secure romantic relationships.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of frugality on subjective well-being (SWB) in early adult online shoppers, with religiosity as a moderator variable. The study participants consisted of men and women aged 18-40 years who are online shoppers in Indonesia. The hypothesis test was carried out using the Multiple Linear Regression technique, and the results of this study showed that the results showed that a positive relationship was found between the three variables. The results of the study also showed that religiousosis positively moderated the relationship between the variables ( = 0.073, p  0.10). In addition, it was found that the relationship was negatively correlated with the two variables (P  0.05). In conclusion, it is suggested that online shoppers can implement a lifestyle of simplicity by making a list of shopping priorities, comparing prices between platforms, and considering the use value of products before making purchases.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-compassion and quarter-life crisis in final-semester out-of-school students. Final-semester out-of-school students are in the emerging adulthood phase, characterized by various developmental demands, including completing studies, career preparation, financial considerations, and family expectations. These pressures can give rise to anxiety, confusion, and uncertainty about the future, leading to a quarter-life crisis. Self-compassion is an important psychological factor because it helps individuals accept themselves, understand failure as part of life, and respond to pressure more adaptively. This study used a quantitative, correlational approach. The research subjects were 100 final-semester out-of-school students at UKSW, obtained using a purposive sampling technique. The research instruments used a self-compassion scale and a quarter-life crisis scale. Data analysis was performed using the Pearson product-moment correlation test. The results showed a negative and significant relationship between self-compassion and quarter-life crisis, with a correlation coefficient value of r = -0.442 and a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). These results indicate that the higher a student's self-compassion, the lower the level of quarter-life crisis they experience. Conversely, the lower the self-compassion, the higher the perceived quarter-life crisis. This study confirms that self-compassion plays a protective role in helping final-semester students from other countries cope with the stress and uncertainty of emerging adulthood.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between self-disclosure and resilience among emerging adults who experience toxic relationships in dating contexts. Emerging adulthood is a developmental phase that is particularly vulnerable to involvement in toxic relationships, which may lead to emotional distress and hinder personal development. In dealing with such pressures, resilience becomes an essential capacity that enables individuals to recover and adapt positively. Self-disclosure, defined as the process of sharing personal information with others, is considered to play a role in helping individuals manage emotional experiences related to unhealthy relationships. This study employed a quantitative correlational method using an accidental sampling technique and involved 264 participants aged 18–29 years who had experienced or were currently experiencing toxic relationships, with the majority being female (84.1%). Data were collected using the Revised Self-Disclosure Scale (RSDS) and the Resilience Quotient Test (RQ Test). The results indicated a significant positive relationship between self-disclosure and resilience (r = 0.371; p < 0.05). These findings suggest that higher levels of self-disclosure are associated with higher levels of resilience in coping with the pressures resulting from toxic relationships. This study highlights the importance of self-disclosure as a factor related to the adaptive capacity of emerging adults and may serve as a consideration in the development of psychological interventions.

Abstract

This research aims to explore how the revitalization of Javanese culture plays a role in building cultural resilience as a strategy for the prevention of radicalism. Employing a qualitative approach, the study involved in-depth interviews with Javanese cultural experts, former individuals exposed to radical ideologies, religious leaders, and security apparatus personnel experienced in handling extremism. The thematic analysis identified three primary themes: (1) Kejawen values as a cognitive-affective framework that forms cultural resilience; (2) the practice of Gotong Royong (cooperation) as a source of communal resilience that strengthens the sense of connection and collective alertness; and (3) traditional Arts and Rituals as Mechanisms of Local Identity Formation, which functions to protect individuals from seeking alternative identities offered by radical ideologies. These findings confirm that the revitalization of Javanese culture is not merely the preservation of tradition, but rather an adaptive mechanism that reinforces the community's resilience in rejecting the penetration of violent ideologies. Thus, cultural resilience becomes an essential foundation for sustainable radicalism prevention efforts based on local wisdom. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of utilizing local cultural values and practices in a reflective manner in the formulation of community-based radicalism prevention programs, particularly through the strengthening of cultural spaces, values education, and sustained social participation.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between cyberbullying victimization and depression in Indonesian adolescents aged 14–19 years with a quantitative correlational approach. The research sample consisted of 154 respondents, selected through incidental sampling, and data were collected using an online questionnaire. The instruments used are the Cyber-Victimization Scale (CYBVICS) to measure the level of cyberbullying victimization and the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) to measure symptoms of depression. The results of the analysis showed that in adolescent boys, there was a significant positive relationship between cyberbullying victimization and depression, while in teenage girls, the relationship was not significant. Statistical tests also showed that the data distribution for depression variables was normally distributed, while for cyberbullying victimization was not. However, the relationships between variables are assumed to be linear. These findings provide important insights into the different psychological responses between genders to cyberbullying and its implications for prevention interventions and the management of adolescent mental health problems in the digital age.
