Abstract

South Sulawesi is the province with the highest production of seaweed, and flying fish is a pelagic fishery resource with significant economic value, contributing predominantly to fisheries production. Both seaweed and flying fish have excellent nutritional value. This research aims to determine the nutritional content of Lawi-lawi seaweed meatballs with flying fish substitution. The method used involves comparing various formulations of Lawi-lawi seaweed and flying fish ratios, namely 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, 0:100. The research results reveal the highest carbohydrate content in formula 2 (75:25) at 29.91%, the highest protein content in treatment 0:100 at 20.31%, the highest fat content in formula 3 (50:50) at 11.08%, the highest water content in formula 1 (100:0) at 52.5%, and the highest iron content in formula 3 (50:50) at 24.7860 mg/kg. The Anova test results indicate a significant difference among various formulations in the nutritional content of protein, fat, water, and iron, but there is no significant difference in carbohydrate content. Based on organoleptic hedonic quality tests, Lawi-lawi seaweed meatballs with flying fish substitution are best in formula 4 (25:75) based on color, aroma, texture, and taste. This research concludes that formula 4 (25:75) is the preferred organoleptic formulation, being the most liked formulation. It is recommended to undertake various food diversifications to enhance public interest in consuming good and nutritious food, thereby improving the nutritional status of the community using local food ingredients

Abstract

The role of students as successors to the nation's aspirations for excellence and accomplishment is of great significance, particularly for the younger generation. The weight of this responsibility induces students to neglect their physical well-being, leading to the development of gastritis diseases. Hence, this study aims to investigate the factors that are correlated with the manifestation of gastritis symptoms. The objective of this study is to investigate the correlation between daily physical activity and stress levels with the manifestation of gastritis symptoms among enrolled students at the Islamic University in Makassar. This study examines the characteristics and experiences of college students through a cross-sectional approach. The data collection was facilitated through the use of an online questionnaire. A probabilistic sample method was employed, with a total of 401 respondents included in the study. The students conducted their studies at four universities in Makassar City that are affiliated with religious institutions. The statistical analysis of the data using Spearmen's test showed that there was no statistically significant association between daily physical activity and gastritis symptoms (p value 0.074). However, a significant relationship was observed between stress levels and gastritis symptoms among Islamic students in Makassar City (p value 0.000). The findings of this investigation demonstrated a statistically significant correlation between levels of stress and the manifestation of symptoms associated with gastritis. This study proposes that the implementation of effective stress management strategies among university students is crucial in reducing the occurrence of gastritis symptoms and promoting future academic success and overall well-being.

Abstract

Introduction: The complexity of stunting reduction interventions cannot be addressed by the government alone. The state appreciates contributions from all stakeholders, including the community. The Foster Parents for Stunting Children (BAAS) program provides a platform for stakeholder participation in accelerating stunting reduction. As a relatively new program, a review is needed to assess its impact. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the BAAS program in Takalar Regency in 2023. Methods: This study uses quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach. Data analysis was conducted to determine how much the success measure of the BAAS program based on the target approach (output). In this study, the test used was the Wilcoxon signed rank test to see the impact (outcome) of how significant the program was to reduce the prevalence of stunting. Results: There is a statistically significant difference between the Z-score TB/U and BB/U before and after the BAAS program with a mean Z-score TB/U before the program of -2.78 and BB/U of -1.83 and a mean Z-score TB/U after the program of -0.40 and BB/U of -0.91. Based on the p-value of Z-score TB/U and BB/U showed a very small value for Z-score TB/U of 0.000 (<0.05). and BB/U of <0.001. This suggests that the program is effective for improving nutritional status and can reduce stunting and wasting in Takalar District. Conclusion: The BAAS Program successfully demonstrated its effectiveness in improving the nutritional status of children in Takalar District. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test results also showed a statistically significant difference between the Z-score values before and after the program with a p value <0.05, confirming that the BAAS Program is effective in improving nutrition and reducing stunting in Takalar District. BAAS is an effective intervention model with the potential for replication and expansion, serving as a reference for sustainable and inclusive community-based stunting prevention policies.

Abstract

Previous studies have highlighted a persistent high prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls in rural areas, often attributed to inadequate nutritional intake and limited access to health interventions, yet few have rigorously evaluated targeted supplementation programs in this context. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the iron supplementation program (Tablet Tambah Darah/TTD) in increasing hemoglobin levels and reducing anemia prevalence among adolescent girls in the Somba Opu health center area, Gowa. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-posttest approach was employed, involving adolescent girls aged 12–18 years. The intervention consisted of routine iron supplementation and education on healthy dietary and lifestyle practices. The results demonstrated a substantial decrease in anemia prevalence: among junior high school students, anemia rates declined from 48.10% in 2023 to 26.50% in 2024, and among senior high school students, from 41.60% to 26.10% over the same period. These findings indicate that the TTD program significantly contributed to improved hemoglobin levels and reduced anemia rates in the target population. The implications underscore the importance of structured supplementation and health education programs for adolescent girls in rural settings to address nutritional deficiencies and promote overall well-being.

Abstract

Obesity is a chronic disease characterized by excess body fat, increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, bone disorders, reproductive issues, and cancer, while also affecting quality of life, including sleep and mobility. According to WHO, the prevalence of overweight children and adolescents aged 5–19 years increased from 8% in 1990 to 20% in 2022. Recent data from the Ministry of Health in 2023 shows a high prevalence of central obesity among those aged 15–24 years, with 8.3-9.2% in males and 23.4-24.7% in females. This quantitative research employs an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach, using SPSS with the Chi-Square test to identify the relationship between dietary patterns and physical activity with the incidence of obesity among MTS students in Gowa Regency. Results indicate no significant relationship between dietary patterns (FFQ and IDDS) and obesity incidence, with p-values of 0.895 and 0.066, respectively. Similarly, physical activity showed no significant relationship with BMI, with a p-value of 0.056. Future studies should consider expanding variables to include factors influencing students' dietary patterns and physical activity, and conduct in-depth analyses using multiple regression.
