Abstract

Mount Semeru as one of the highest mountains on the Java island has significant volcanic activity to date. The eruption of this volcano had a considerable impact on the surrounding area, including Sumberwuluh Village, Candipuro District, Lumajang Regency. The impact felt by the community is not only physical damage but also trauma. Therefore, a disaster awareness culture needs to be built and strengthened early in order to reduce the impact caused when a disaster occurs. The Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) of the University of Jember in collaboration with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Lumajang Regency carried out service activities for elementary school students and teachers in Sumberwuluh Village with the aim of strengthening the culture of disaster awareness. This activity has been attended by students and teachers from SDN Sumberwuluh 1, SDN Sumberwuluh 2, SDN Sumberwuluh 3, SDN Sumberwuluh 4, SDN Sumberwuluh 5 and MI Miftahul Ulum. This is carried out through two stages, socialization about the importance of disaster preparedness and direct practice of disaster preparedness consisting of water boat evacuation, webbing and trauma healing. This program has succeeded in increasing disaster preparedness awareness through disaster education from an early age. In addition, this activity also succeeded in improving knowledge and practical skills in disaster preparedness by 88% and building a better mentality and readiness in dealing with emergency situations.

Abstract

Azolla (Azolla microphylla) is a highly nutritious fern that can be used as organic fertilizer and animal feed. As the primary raw material for animal feed, Azolla processing needs to be developed to be durable, have complete nutrition, and have high economic value. The people of Balletbaru Village, who are partners in implementing the assisted village service program, are familiar with Azolla cultivation. However, innovation in processing Azolla crops is needed. This activity aims to form a business group to produce high-nutritional animal feed with Azolla as the main ingredient in Balletbaru village. The series of activities carried out included socialization about the potential use of Azolla as animal feed, training on production and processing techniques of Azolla as animal feed, training on how to prepare highly nutritious animal feed made from Azolla as raw material for ruminants, training in the manufacture of processed feed, training on marketing, monitoring, and evaluation. The results of this community service activity include technology transfer regarding the production of Azolla as an alternative high-nutrition feed where 100% of the community participating in the service program activities can understand and practice making animal feed made from the primary raw material of Azolla. Other outputs are instructions on cultivating and using Azolla as animal feed and products ready to be marketed under the trademark Pazoruso. It is hoped that this product will become an economical source to increase the income and welfare of the service partner community and its surroundings.

Abstract

Rowosari Village, Sumberjambe Subdistrict, is one of the fostered villages of the University of Jember, where the majority of the population works as coffee farmers. However, the farmers face significant challenges in coffee cultivation due to attacks by coffee berry borer (CBB) (Hypothenemus hampei), with an infestation intensity reaching 60-67%, and nutrient deficiencies caused by the high price of fertilizers. This community empowerment program aims to address these issues through environmentally friendly pest control and soil quality improvement approaches. The solutions implemented include the application of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana formulation in the medium, which has been proven to reduce pest populations by up to 50%, and the use of solid organic fertilizer containing nitrogen (15%), phosphorus (0.8%), and potassium (12%). The results of this program show an increase in coffee production by 10.4% following the application of Beauveria bassiana and organic fertilizer. Farmers’ perceptions were also very positive, with a score of 4.5 out of 5 for ease of application and 4.2 for willingness to continue using the technology. Through the utilization of Beauveria bassiana and organic fertilizer in Rowosari Village, the empowerment program is expected to increase coffee productivity, improve soil conditions, and strengthen the resilience of farmers in facing pest and nutrient deficiency challenges sustainably.

Abstract

Pemanasan global merupakan salah satu fenomena yang disebabkan oleh aktivitas manusia dan memberikan dampak besar terhadap kondisi ekosistem. Agroforestri dipilih sebagai salah satu sistem yang dapat diterapkan karena konsepnya menggunakan kombinasi tanaman kehutanan dan pertanian. Biosite Kebun Kopi, Ijen Geopark termasuk dalam kawasan lindung bagi flora dan fauna yang terdapat di wilayah tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui potensi simpanan karbon pada 2 tipe agroforestri yang berbeda. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah purposive sampling dan metode analisis data kuantitatif berdasarkan persamaan alometrik. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, jumlah penyimpanan karbon tertinggi diperoleh pada tipe agroforestri sederhana dengan jumlah serapan karbon sebesar 156,6 ton/ha, sedangkan untuk agroforestri kompleks mampu menyerap 95,3 ton/ha. Faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi besarnya potensi serapan adalah berat jenis kayu, kerapatan pohon, diameter pohon, ukuran populasi, dan umur pohon. Cedrela odorata dan Swietenia mahagoni adalah jenis pohon dengan simpanan karbon tertinggi. Nekromassa, tumbuhan bawah, serasah dan pohon berturut-turut memiliki simpanan karbon dari terendah ke tertinggi.
