Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the relationship between salivary flow rate and number of calcium ion secretions in saliva. This study involved 10 young-adult dental school students of Jember University. Using the spitting method, the amount of saliva secreted was measured. Calcium ion secreted within the saliva fluid was measured using Flame Fotometer. The research results showed that there is relation between salivary flow rate andthe number of calcium ion secretion in saliva

Abstract

Human life cannot be separated from activities. Human body has the ability to adapt and it has resistance to fatigue, but this capability has its restriction. So, whenever an activity is done on and on for a long time, then fatigue will occur. Fatigue can influence work productivity, one of which is work carefulness. In dentistry, work carefulness is required to get maximum result. The aim of this research is to know the influence of fatigue on students’ work carefulness of Faculty of Dentistry, University of Jember. The subjects of the research were 30 students of Faculty of Dentistry, University of Jember, male and female at the age of between 20 and 30 who do not suffer from color blind. The subjects were instructed to arrange beads with correct color order (green, white, blue, purple, orange, pink, and red) for 10 minutes. The bead arrangement that the subjects made were then counted based on the correct color order and their work carefulness was counted. Then, the research subjects were asked to step up and down the step-test bench once in every three seconds for two minutes to produce fatigue. Then the research subjects were instructed to arrange beads again and their work carefulness was counted. The result of the research was analyzed by using t-test, and it showed that there was a difference (p<0,05) on the level of work carefulness before and after the occurrence of fatigue that is, work carefulness decreases when fatigue occurs

Abstract

Growth is affected by nutrition contents in the diet consumed.Nutrition playing role in the growth process is carbohydrate, protein, fat, mineral, water, and vitamins. Calcium is one of important minerals involving in cellmetabolism process needed in the process of growth and development. One ofsources of animal calcium is anchovy, besides its cheap price, anchovies may beconsumed wholy together with their bones. The purpose of this study was toobserve whether the supply of anchovies as additional diet may increase thegrowth of male wistars. Methods: A number of 12 male wistars divided into twogroups, control and experimental groups. The control group was only suppliedwith standard diet and sterile aquades, while the other group was supplied withanchovies as additional diet through oral sondage of 0,00062 gr/day x BW (BodyWeigth) for 40 days. Every wistar in each group was subsequently measured forits body length and weigth once a week to observe its growth and development. The data obtained were analized using anova test and LSD orderly. Results: Theresult demostrated the increase in the body length and weigth of the male wistarsof both groups in each week. Anova statistical test that was continued with LSDtest showed that there was significant increase (p<0,05) in the experimental groupin each week compared to the control group. Conclusion: The supply ofanchovies(Stolephorus sp) as additional diet may increase the growth of malewistars body length and weigth.

Abstract

Background: Tooth extraction can cause wound in hard tissue and soft tissue inside oral cavity. Wound healing process involves cell proliferation especially fibroblast cells. To accelerate fibroblast cell proliferation alternative substance that can accelerates wound healing process is needed which is arabica coffee fruit skin. Arabica coffee fruit skin contains substances such as polyphenols, tannin, chlorogenic acid, and caffeine expected to be able to stimulate fibroblast cells amount. Objective: To understand arabica coffee fruit skin potential towards increase in number of fibroblast cells on the socket after tooth extraction. Method: The design of this research was post test only control group with sample size of 24 wistar mouse. The samples used were divided into two groups which are control and treatment group. Then treatment was given in 3 days, 5 days, and 7 days. Then they were decapitated to undergo tissue processing with HE coloring and post tooth extraction socket fibroblast cells counting. Acquired data then analyzed used One Way ANOVA and LSD test. Result: Fibroblast cell amount increased significantly (p

Abstract

Background: The Pandalungan community is a unique community established through the assimilation of two dominant cultures: the Javanese and Madurese. Both of these communities created a community with a new culture called the Pandalungan community culture. The people of this community live in coastal, rural and urban areas. Generally, research on the uniqueness in the oral health behaviour of the Pandalungan community has not been conducted since the oral health practices of the Pandalungan community are considered to be the same as that of the Javanese community. Purpose: In order to develop programmes for oral health prevention, this research aims at comparing the oral health profiles of the elderly (classified as per age) living in the rural and urban areas in the Jember Regency. Methods: The research employs a cross-sectional approach. The subjects of the research were selected on the basis of the total number of elderly people who attended the monthly meetings of the Karang Werda (those not willing to participate in the study were excluded). The study was conducted by organising extensive interviews, performing observations and intraoral examinations. Each group was classified into three subgroups on the basis of age: pre-elderly, elderly and high-risk elderly. The intraoral examination conducted included the oral hygiene index-simplified (OHI-S), the number of teeth missing, the depth of the pocket and the number of all functional tooth units (all-FTU). Results: The oral health profile of people in the rural community was poor when compared to the oral health profile of people living in the urban community (by accounting for nearly all the variables in the examination). Conclusion: The oral health profile of the elderly people in the Pandalungan community was poor. Adequate prevention and care are essential to maintain the oral health of people in the Pandalungan community.

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of creating the river water pollution information systems related to oral and dental health community is to facilitate the analysis of diseases caused by water pollution.Material and Methods: The Environment-based Health Management Information System based on GIS is based on real data of Bedadung River-Jember Regency, East Java, Indonesia includes the location of the dumping points, photo dumping points, the area of garbage accumulation, and tooth and mouth disorders that arise due to contamination of river water, which is associated with community dental and oral health data that taken by survey. Results: Through the Environmental Health Information System information can be displayed about the environment and the dental and oral status of the population around the Bedadung river. Conclusion: The use of the Environment-Based Health Management Information System is very important to help support the government's decision to prevent the spread and severity of community diseases caused by river water pollution, reduce morbidity and mortality, and reduce the burden of government financing to treat diseases and disability integrated in an integrated manner.

Abstract

Simpulan: ikan teri meningkatkan jumlah sel fibroblas soket gigi pasca pencabutan.
