Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the meaning of incense in the pilgrimage tradition of the tomb of Sunan Gunung Jati. The method used is qualitative with the collection of interview data, observation, and documentation. Researchers went directly to the field to collect data. The result of this research is that incense is used in the tradition of tomb pilgrimage Sunan Gunung Jati Cirebon is interpreted as fragnance and solemnity worship symboland intercedes with Allah SWT which is believed to be able to penetrate to the seventh heaven. Incense has a meaning depending on the pilgrim or the wearer including its purpose and background which is generally used to create a solemn atmosphere when praying. Incense is not obligatory for general pilgrims and is only used at certain times and places.

Abstract

Abstrak Bagi masyarakat bangsawan, kain tenun dengan motif tertentu digunakan sebagai simbol kekuasaan dan kehormatan, sementara rakyat biasa mengenakan kain dengan desain yang lebih sederhana. Pakaian adat ini juga memainkan peran penting dalam upacara adat, seperti pernikahan, kelahiran, kematian, serta ritual keagamaan. Di era modern, pakaian adat NTT tetap relevan, tidak hanya sebagai warisan budaya tetapi juga sebagai produk ekonomi kreatif yang mendukung pemberdayaan perempuan dan pelestarian tradisi lokal. Pakaian adat merupakan kostum yang mengekspresikan identitas, yang biasanya dikaitkan dengan wilayah geografis atau periode waktu dalam sejarah. Di NTT juga terdapat beberapa suku. Dimana masing-masing suku memiliki kekhasan dan keunikan pakaian adat. Salah satu suku yang mendiami NTT adalah suku Rote. Pakaian adat suku Rote memiliki ciri khas dan keunikan tersendiri. Kata Kunci: suku rote, kain tenun, pakaian adat Abstract For noble people, woven cloth with certain motifs was used as a symbol of power and honor, while ordinary people wore cloth with simpler designs. This traditional clothing also plays an important role in traditional ceremonies, such as weddings, births, deaths, and religious rituals. In the modern era, NTT traditional clothing remains relevant, not only as cultural heritage but also as a creative economic product that supports women's empowerment and the preservation of local traditions. Traditional clothing is a costume that expresses identity, which is usually associated with a geographic region or time period in history. In NTT there are also several tribes. Where each tribe has its own characteristics and unique traditional clothing. One of the tribes that inhabit NTT is the Rote tribe. Abstract

This research aims to analyze the making and use of Jambi traditional clothing with an ethnographic approach, in order to reveal cultural values, symbolism, and its role in the identity of the Jambi Malay community. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach, where data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, direct observation, and document analysis. Interviews were conducted with informants who have in-depth knowledge of Jambi traditional clothing, while observation involved observing the making process, design, and use of the clothing in traditional ceremonies. The results showed that Jambi traditional clothing, such as Baju Kurung Tanggung, reflects the richness of local culture through designs that are full of philosophy. The symbolic colors used, such as red, gold and green, symbolize courage, nobility and fertility. In addition, these traditional garments also serve as symbols of social status and cultural identity, especially in the context of weddings and traditional ceremonies.

Abstract

This study discusses the symbolic meaning of Lipaq Saqbe as a social identity of the Mandar Tribe. This traditional clothing not only functions as a cultural identity but also has a deep symbolic meaning and reflects the values ​​of the Mandar people. This study uses qualitative descriptive methods and Malinowski's functionalist theory to understand the social and cultural functions of Lipaq Saqbe clothing. The results of the study indicate that the motifs and colors of Lipaq Saqbe have certain meanings related to social status and personal identity. In addition, the use of this traditional clothing in various traditional ceremonies shows its important role in preserving culture. The Mandar Tribe has adapted to the development of the times while maintaining the authenticity of its traditional motifs, making Lipaq Saqbe a symbol of their living cultural heritage. This study is expected to contribute to the understanding of socio-cultural dynamics in Indonesia, especially in West Sulawesi.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the cultural diversity of traditional clothing in the Riau Islands Province as part of the Malay cultural identity. Using qualitative methods through observation, interviews, and documentation, the study reveals the philosophical, symbolic, and functional meanings of traditional attire such as Kurung Labuh and Teluk Belanga. The findings indicate that traditional clothing not only represents Islamic values and social propriety but also serves as a symbol of preserving ancestral heritage amid modernization. This study highlights the importance of safeguarding traditional clothing as a culturally rich legacy.

Abstract

Bundo Kanduang traditional clothing is one of the important symbols in West Sumatra's cultural heritage, especially among the Minangkabau people. In addition to serving as a body covering, this garment symbolizes social status and a strong ethnic identity. This study aims to document and analyze the characteristics and social significance of Bundo Kanduang traditional clothing in the context of Minangkabau culture. The method used in this study is qualitative, which includes literature studies and interviews with the manager of the West Sumatra pavilion at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta. Data was collected through direct observation during visits to the platform, as well as analysis of written sources regarding traditional Minangkabau clothing. The results of the study show that Bundo Kanduang clothing has striking characteristics, such as a headdress that resembles a buffalo horn, which symbolizes the strength and dignity of women in the Minangkabau community. This clothing also reflects the cultural values and traditions that are upheld by the local community. The implications of this study are very significant for cultural preservation. This finding can be used as a reference for cultural education in schools and as research material for future researchers. In addition, a deeper understanding of Bundo Kanduang traditional clothing can encourage people to better appreciate and preserve their cultural heritage.

Abstract

The aim of this research is: To obtain an overview of the research-based learning development and implementation model to improve creative thinking skills and collaborative skills in students of the Social Sciences Education Study Program. The research method that will be used is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The subjects in this research were IPS students from the Class of 2022 and 2023 who took Physical Geography and Indonesian Regional Geography courses for one semester. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, literary studies and questionnaires. The research results state that the implementation of student research learning is through observation/practicum activities which aim to be a means of thinking innovatively, connecting theory with practice, and producing ideas that are relevant to social challenges. This is integrated with the Semester Learning Plan (RPS) for several courses by allowing students to go out into the field as a condition for passing courses. The results of the observations/practicum are in the form of activity reports that are recorded, video reports that are uploaded to the study program's YouTube, and published in several scientific journals.

Abstract

This study aims to find out and explain how the impact of campus academic culture on the lifestyles of overseas students in the Social Sciences Tadris Study Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The method used is qualitative with the data analysis model of Miles and Hubberman on the basis of Peter L. Berger's social construction theory and Weber's Social Action. The results of this study are that campus academic culture becomes a habit and becomes values and norms that have gone through an institutional process and are present in a tangible form. Overseas students absorb the objective world and try to strengthen their existence as students depending on their association. The next step is that overseas students try to display it. Campus academic culture is only considered as a requirement during lectures by overseas students or wetrationalat. Campus academic culture is not an indicator of the lifestyle that is displayed, overseas students tend to display a lifestyle in accordance with their previous interests or those they just discovered while undergoing lectures. Campus academic culture has a more positive impact on improving the ability of individual overseas students such as adding insight and changing mindsets that affect their lives.Keywords: Academic Culture, Overseas Students, and Lifestyle.

Abstract

Madurese traditional clothing is a rich cultural heritage from the island of Madura, Indonesia, which not only reflects the identity of the community, but also the social and cultural values ​​passed down from generation to generation. These clothes, which are generally made from brightly colored fabrics with unique motifs, play an important role in various traditional events and cultural celebrations. This research aims to explore the history, social meaning and development of pesana clothes in a modern context. The research method uses a qualitative approach with observation techniques, semi-structured interviews, and documentation to analyze the symbolic meaning of this traditional clothing. The research results show that ordered clothes not only function as cultural identity, but also contain deep meaning related to the character of the Madurese people. Each design element, such as color and motif, has a certain symbolism that reflects boldness and simplicity. In addition, ordered clothes are often worn at formal events and reflect the social status of the wearer. The transformation of the pesana shirt in a social and economic context shows its adaptability while still maintaining traditional values. It is hoped that this research can encourage the younger generation to preserve the rich culture of Madura in the modern era.
