Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems play a strategic role in maintaining the balance of the coastal environment while simultaneously supporting the local economy, particularly through commodities such as mangrove crabs. However, the relationship between conservation and productivity is often fraught with tension, particularly when economic pressures and external interventions are not aligned with local value systems. This study aims to examine the socio-economic construction of coastal communities in Bone Regency. A qualitative approach was used, using a case study method, collecting data through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. Data were then analyzed thematically, supported by the theoretical frameworks of Berger & Luckmann, Bourdieu, and Giddens. The research findings indicate that communities collectively understand mangroves as both ecological and economic entities, shaped by empirical experience and local values. This construction directly impacts attitudes toward conservation: communities that view mangroves as part of life are more likely to preserve them. However, short-term economic pressures, unequal access to information, and decontextualized intervention programs create a paradox between the needs of productivity and sustainability. The study concludes that successful conservation depends not only on an ecological approach alone, but also on a deep understanding of the social logic of coastal communities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) in alleviating poverty and achieving food self-sufficiency in Lampoko Village, Barebbo District, Bone Regency, and to identify barriers and effective empowerment strategies. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation of KWT activities. The results indicate that KWT plays a strategic role in household food security through the use of yards as production spaces and strengthening social solidarity among members. However, KWT faces various technical, structural, and social barriers, including limited land, capital, agricultural knowledge and technology, organizational management, women's double burden, limited market access, and minimal institutional support. This study recommends an integrated empowerment strategy that includes increasing access to resources, strengthening technical and managerial capacity, reducing the burden of dual roles, developing market access, and strengthening institutional support to ensure program sustainability. Implementation of this strategy is expected to expand women's agency, improve family welfare, strengthen food self-sufficiency, and affirm KWT's position as a strategic actor in village development.

Abstract

Public service is a key indicator of government performance directly felt by the public, yet in practice, many fundamental problems remain, including in population administration services at the Bone Regency Population and Civil Registration Office (Disdukcapil). This study aims to analyze the application of accountability principles in population administration services and to formulate strategies that can improve the quality and legitimacy of public services in the region. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies, then analyzed using triangulation and pattern matching techniques. The results show that the Bone Disdukcapil has implemented several innovations, such as service digitization, sub-district-based programs, information transparency, and the operation of the Public Service Mall. However, various obstacles remain, including limited digital infrastructure, low public technological literacy, scarcity of ID forms, limited number of officers, and suboptimal participatory complaint and evaluation mechanisms. These findings indicate that public service accountability strategies are still top-down and need to be reformulated with an emphasis on community participation, transparency, and cross-actor collaboration. This study concludes that strengthening human resource capacity, improving digital infrastructure, strengthening formal complaint channels, and implementing participatory evaluation mechanisms are key to building more inclusive, transparent, and accountable population administration services in Bone Regency

Abstract

Abstract. The empowerment of women's livestock groups in the Batara Deceng Livestock Group aims to have a positive impact on income both economically and environmentally on laying hen farms. Located in Kajaolaliddong Village, Bone Regency, this empowerment aims to provide guidance to women or mothers of livestock farmers to supply BSF Maggot feed for their laying hen farms. This program uses the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method. The results of this community service activity show that the empowerment program has a positive impact on increasing income and community welfare. Farmers who were previously trapped in the increasingly massive increase in feed prices are now able to stand on their own two feet for satisfactory egg production. The follow-up to this program involves ongoing monitoring and evaluation activities, competency training, participation development, and financial literacy socialization. This activity also emphasizes the importance of active community participation and the role of government in supporting empowerment so that the community can become an economically independent community.

Abstract

Mappalili is a hereditary tradition carried out by the Segeri community in Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi. This tradition is led by the Bissu in guiding the community as a sign that the cultivation of agricultural land (rice fields) has begun. This tradition is closely related to the understanding of Bugis cosmology in carrying out harmony between humans, nature, and the gods as creators. Mappalili contains a source of knowledge that is transmitted back through various symbols, movements, and ornaments used during ceremonies, but has begun to be overlooked. Therefore, this journal explores how the problems of the Bissu Community as an indigenous community play a role in socio-cultural development, related to the sustainable environmental agenda. This study uses an ethnographic method by involving direct participation with the Bissu community, observing their daily lives, conducting interviews, and utilizing other sources such as social context, kinship ties to patron-client relationships. This study shows that the Bissu community plays a role as a guardian of stability, namely social stability and ecological balance. They maintain the existence of noble values, and a strong relationship between humans, nature, and the gods that have been inherited from their ancestors. In conclusion, they play a key role in resisting external changes by maintaining local traditions. The symbols and movements in the Mappalili ritual highlight the ecological values held dear by the Bissu, which are closely interwoven with their spiritual and social beliefs.

Abstract

Indonesia, as an archipelagic country, holds great potential in marine and fisheries resources. Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is one of the most economically valuable aquaculture commodities, with production reaching 5,812.2 thousand tons in 2020, an increase of 52.8% compared to 2015. However, disease outbreaks remain a major challenge in shrimp farming. One common disease is vibriosis, caused by Vibrio sp., an opportunistic, highly virulent, Gram-negative and facultative anaerobic bacterium. Therefore, early detection of Vibrio abundance is essential for prevention and control efforts. This Final Internship Project (KPA), titled “Abundance of Vibrio Bacteria in Whiteleg Shrimp Culture Media,” aimed to determine the abundance of Vibrio sp. in shrimp ponds and analyze the influence of water quality parameters (NH₃, NO₂, and plankton). The internship was conducted from February 6 to April 17, 2025, at PT Parigi Aquakultura Prima, Central Sulawesi. Activities included water sampling, NH₃ and NO₂ testing, plankton density measurement, sterilization, TCBS media preparation, bacterial inoculation, and enumeration. Observations were carried out in six pond plots with weekly sampling from Day of Culture (DOC) 9 to 79. The regression model obtained was Y = 164.808 + 153.951X₁ + 2092.103X₂ + 0.000X₃, indicating that increasing NH₃ and NO₂ levels positively contribute to Vibrio abundance, each raising bacterial numbers by 153,951 and 2,092,103 units per one-unit increase, respectively. Plankton showed no significant effect. Thus, NH₃, NO₂, and plankton have partial influence on Vibrio abundance, although plankton contributes minimally.

Abstract

Poverty is a complex social problem and is still a challenge in various regions, including in Palakka District, Bone Regency, South Sulawesi. One of the efforts made to overcome this problem is through a village community empowerment program. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of community empowerment programs in poverty alleviation and identify more optimal strategies to improve community welfare. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study in Palakka District. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation analysis. The results of the study indicate that the village community empowerment program has a positive impact on improving community welfare, especially through increasing individual capacity, access to entrepreneurship training, and increasing community income through productive businesses. However, the effectiveness of the program still faces several challenges, such as limited supporting infrastructure, limited market access, and lack of sustainable funding. This study confirms that active community participation, government support, and synergy with the private sector and non-governmental organizations are key factors in the success of community empowerment programs. Improvements are needed in policies and program implementation to be more oriented to local needs and ensure the sustainability of the program in the long term. With a more integrated and strategic approach, it is hoped that the village community empowerment program can be an effective solution in eradicating poverty sustainably in Palakka District, Bone Regency.

Abstract

The dynamics of globalization, modernization, and shifting values of the younger generation demand innovation in cultural governance to remain relevant and competitive. This study aims to analyze the forms of cultural governance innovation implemented by the Bone Regency Government and their impact on strengthening cultural identity and increasing regional competitiveness. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and analysis of policy documents. The results show that cultural governance innovation in Bone includes the integration of digital technology in cultural promotion, multi-stakeholder collaboration between the government, indigenous communities, and business actors, and the revitalization of cultural activities based on community participation. These innovations not only strengthen the image and identity of Bugis culture at the local and national levels but also open up creative economic opportunities that contribute to increasing regional competitiveness. This study recommends strengthening regulations, program sustainability, and increasing the capacity of cultural actors as long-term strategies for cultural governance in Bone Regency.
