Abstract

The construction of political awareness through social media is no longer a challenging endeavor. Every segment of society now possesses the ability to voice justice with ease. However, the manifestation of freedom of expression and democratic participation in public spaces is increasingly perceived as a threat by the government—often justified by political, security, or moral interests used as a pretext to restrict civic expression. One such form of restriction is the silencing of public voices. This study examines how the social reality surrounding the silencing of public expression is represented through the Instagram account @j.s.khairen. The primary objective of this research is to raise public awareness regarding the phenomenon of government suppression of citizens' aspirations, as portrayed through subtle symbolic representations on social media platforms. Employing a qualitative approach within the constructivist paradigm, this study utilizes Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis method to interpret the denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings embedded in the visual and textual content posted on the account. The findings indicate that the @j.s.khairen account consistently articulates socio-political critique through compelling visual symbols and narratives, serving as a form of resistance against the suppression of public discourse. In conclusion, social media functions as an alternative platform for voicing truth and fostering political consciousness in the midst of increasingly constrained democratic spaces.

Abstract

In the digital era, visual communication has become an inseparable element and one of the most effective tools for conveying messages in modern life. Movie posters are a common example of visual communication, serving as a medium to depict the essence of a film's story as well as an important commercial tool. This research analyzes the meaning of the Leo (2023) movie poster using Charles S. Peirce's semiotic theory. The aim is to uncover and elaborate on both the explicit and implicit meanings present in the film's poster. The method used is descriptive qualitative analysis with Peirce's semiotic approach, focusing on three main elements: object, representamen, and interpretant. Through the second trichotomy, the object is further divided into icon, index, and symbol. The results of the analysis show various important and hidden meanings within the poster. For instance, the lizard character in the center acts as the main focal point, hinting at the cause of Leo's panic. The school background in a tropical area, the RC (Remote Control) toy car rapidly and erratically controlled by Cole, and the discernible movement all contribute to the visual narrative. Additionally, symbols like the film's title and rating also convey important information. It can be concluded that the Leo (2023) poster effectively utilizes semiotic signs that can be elucidated using Charles S. Peirce's semiotic theory. This poster successfully serves as a concise and efficient medium for illustrating the overall content and ambiance of the film.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of WhatsApp Group usage on parents’ knowledge regarding school activities in Foxes Class, at Kipina Kids Kelapa Gading 1. The background of this research highlights the importance of effective communication between schools and parents in early childhood education, particularly through digital media that are practical and easily accessible. The research method applied was quantitative with a questionnaire approach. The population consisted of 42 parents, with a sample of 38 respondents determined using Slovin’s formula with a 10% margin of error. The instrument used was a closed-ended Likert scale questionnaire distributed through Google Form in the class WhatsApp Group. Data were analyzed using validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, and simple linear regression analysis with the assistance of SPSS software. The result show that WhatsApp Group usage has a positive and significant influence on parental knowledge, as evidenced by a significance value of 0,001 < 0,05 and a t-value of 3,501 > ttabel of 2,028. The coefficient of determination indicated that 25,4% of the variation in parents' knowledge is explained by the use of WhatsApp Group, with the remaining percentage influenced by other factors. A Pearson correlation value 0.504 revealed a moderately strong and statistically significant relationship between the variables. These findings highlight the role of digital communication tools like WhatsApp in fostering effective collaboration between schools and families, particularly in early childhood education settings.

Abstract

In an organization, a process of exchanging information, ideas, feelings, and perspectives among individuals or groups is required to achieve a desired goal. In the modern era, the delivery of both verbal and non-verbal information is made easier by communication technology. These media act as an intermediary or a tool used to convey messages from a communicator to a recipient. Communication media can be virtual or physical and can include written, verbal, or non-verbal elements. They play a crucial role in daily life, such as in the process of delivering messages or information. The process of delivering information, supported by communication technology, will proceed more smoothly and successfully. One example is the use of a video conferencing application to coordinate work within a national company that has branch offices and thousands of employees spread across Indonesia. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research, which selects employees of PT Mandala Multifinance as sample informants. These informants hold the role of a leader in the marketing division and are responsible for delivering messages or information to guide a project for creating designs and videos for the branches. This is to ensure that the information and instructions conveyed to all branch offices achieve the intended purpose and desired goals. This is done with the support of the Teams application, allowing for direct, online, face-to-face meetings with representatives from Mandala Multifinance branches across Indonesia. By analyzing these online video conference meetings, the communication process and patterns used in the meetings can be concluded. Furthermore, data is collected using instruments in the form of observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with the informants.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the communication strategy implemented by the JKT48 Terbaik Sedunia (JTS) fan community through its Instagram account in shaping a positive image of the idol group JKT48. The research applies a qualitative descriptive method, using in-depth interviews, direct observation of the community’s social media activities, and documentation studies. The findings indicate that JTS consistently produces informative, appreciative, and promotional content with visual and narrative elements tailored to audience preferences. The community ensures that all content aligns with JKT48’s positive image by sharing only official information and avoiding controversial issues. Within the framework of image theory, JTS’s strategy reflects key indicators such as reputation, corporate identity, organizational capability, and social responsibility. Furthermore, JTS’s digital activities contribute to strengthening fan loyalty and expanding JKT48’s public presence, as evidenced by their frequent participation in major events and growing media recognition at the national level.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of the sandwich generation phenomenon in the film "Home Sweet Loan" (2024), an issue that is increasingly relevant in modern Indonesian society, as evidenced by the high number of Gen Z who feel financial and emotional burdens due to dual responsibilities. Film as a significant mass communication media is able to reflect social reality and has the potential to change mindsets. The purpose of this study is to understand how the sandwich generation is represented in the film's visual narrative. Using a qualitative approach with Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis design and constructivism paradigm, this study analyzes key scenes in the film in depth. The results show that the film "Home Sweet Loan" explicitly depicts the physical, mental, and financial pressures faced by sandwich generation individuals, such as the character Kaluna who sacrifices her personal dreams for the sake of family needs and debts. Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis successfully reveals the layers of denotative, connotative, and mythical meaning behind each scene, showing the injustice, sacrifice, and feeling of being trapped experienced by this generation. In conclusion, this film successfully presents a comprehensive picture of the challenges of the sandwich generation, encouraging reflection on roles and responsibilities within the family.

Abstract

The short film ‘Kembali Pulang’ tells the story of a girl’s life journey who only lives with her mother after her father leaves. Their relationship experiences various dynamics after the child decides to go abroad to pursue her dreams. The purpose of this study is to determine the representation of family values ​​in the short film “Kembali Pulang” through Roland Barthes’ Semiotic Analysis. This study is a descriptive qualitative study with Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis method which includes three elements, namely denotation, connotation, and myth. Through a reflective approach, this film reflects common family values ​​in Indonesian culture, such as affection, care, togetherness, attention, warmth that is woven within the family, and forgiving each other for misunderstandings that occur. This film is a reflection media that reminds us of the importance of maintaining relationships with family, especially with both parents, and more appreciating togetherness, presence and affection of family in everyday life.

Abstract

The phenomenon of a quarter-life crisis, marked by uncertainty, anxiety, and identity exploration among young adults, has become increasingly significant in popular culture. This study aims to reveal the representation of the quarter-life crisis in the lyrics of “Perjalanan” by Danar Widianto using Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis. A qualitative interpretative method was applied, supported by data collection techniques such as observation, in-depth interviews with the songwriter, and documentation. The analysis involved Barthes’ three levels of signification—denotation, connotation, and myth—combined with Stuart Hall’s representation theory. The findings show that the lyrics of “Perjalanan” reflect personal experiences of life’s uncertainties, hope, perseverance, and self-reflection, which are closely associated with the characteristics of a quarter-life crisis. The connotative meaning emphasizes the importance of setting goals, overcoming challenges, and not giving up along life’s journey. Moreover, the song conveys myths about life’s struggles and the belief that hardships are temporary. Beyond its portrayal of a quarter-life crisis, the lyrics also embed values of romanticism, religiosity, and optimism that deliver a strong moral message to listeners.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the Marketing Public Relations (MPR) strategy implemented by PT. Wiradi Utama Packindo in increasing the sales of disposable food and beverage packaging products. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that PT. Wiradi Utama Packindo applies a marketing communication strategy that includes advertising, sales promotion, events and experiences, public relations, direct marketing, interactive marketing, word of mouth, and personal selling. These strategies are carried out using the Pull, Push, and Pass approach as part of the marketing communication mix model. The MPR strategy has proven effective in increasing brand awareness, engagement, and sales, particularly through digital platforms such as TikTok and Shopee. The study concludesthat the synergybetweenmarketing and public relations helps build a positive corporate image and strengthens customer loyalty. The researcher recommends that the company develop a CRM system and expand its promotion to offline media and collaborate with digital influencers.

Abstract

This study is based on the growing role of social media, particularly Instagram, in the marketing communication strategies of coffee shops. The research fills a gap in the understanding of digital relationship marketing in MSME (UMKM) contexts, which remains underexplored. This qualitative descriptive study employs interviews and observations with the owner and social media specialist of Kakaku Coffee. Findings reveal that Kakaku Coffee uses Instagram strategically through interactive content, features like Reels, Stories, and Feed, as well as monthly events such as “Kakacult”. Although Meta Ads are used with a limited budget, organic strategies prove more effective in fostering customer engagement. The discussion highlights how warm communication, consistent visuals, and customer involvement through reposts and comments significantly contribute to brand loyalty. The study concludes that Instagram is an effective tool for building long-term relationships with customers. It is recommended that Kakaku Coffee expand CSR programs, optimize TikTok, and establish a clearer customer feedback system.
