Abstract

Abstract Proverbs discusses issues that are relevant to everyone wherever they are. This book discusses horizontal issues regarding human relationships with each other. One issue that is quite important is laziness which has become a comprehensive problem in human life today. No previous research has conducted a biblical study regarding laziness from the perspective of the book of Proverbs. This research tries to answer the problem of how Proverbs views laziness. Through literature study using thematic interpretation of Proverbs, an assessment of lazy attitudes based on this book was produced: this attitude will not bring any benefits at all. For those who expect satisfactory results from lazy people, it will definitely result in disappointment. Laziness will give birth to forced labor, you will not succeed in everything you do, you will become the brother of the destroyer, you will starve, you will never reap, and you will not get anything in your life. The lazy person's life will ultimately be killed by his desires. The Book of Proverbs gives advice to lazy people so that they continue to learn from ants in terms of discipline. Even though ants are weak animals, they are famous for their craft. In the end, discipline is an effective medicine for all lazy attitudes that arise in the lives of believers in all places and times. Keywords: Lazy, Point of View, Proverbs Abstrak Kitab Amsal membicarakan topik-topik persoalan yang relevan dengan semua orang dimanapun mereka berada.

Abstract

Abstract The Pentateuch gives the fact that for the first time God's composite name is introduced and used in the Bible. One of the famous names of God is El-Shaddai where systematics experts always associate it with the power of God alone. The emergence of El-Shaddai in the Pentateuch provides the most significant theological message than any other part. This research seeks to explore that theological message. Using a topical approach to the Pentateuch text regarding the emergence of El-Shaddaí, several theological messages are produced: First, El-Shaddai is the One who is able to fulfill all His promises even though they seem impossible in the eyes of man (Gen. 17:1). Second, El-Shaddai is a source of blessing that will bless His people with good things (Gen. 28:3).  Third, El-Shaddai is the One who definitely fulfills all His promises. His name is the guarantee of the fulfillment of what has been promised (Gen. 58:3; Ex. 6:2). Fourth, El-Shaddai will arrange all good things for the good of His own people. (43:14). Lastly, El-Shaddai will continue to protect His people from curses and will turn them into blessings (Num. 24:4, 16). God's miraculous providence will apply to the people who are faithful to Him.

Abstract

The Old Testament prophets had the primary task of returning the people to His Covenant. Throughout their ministry, these prophets often used the name Yahweh as God's covenant name to Israel. Interestingly, the books of the Major Prophets present the fact that the prophets also used the combined names of God El-Saddai and El-Elyon in their writings. What message is being conveyed in the use of these combined names of God? Using the study of Biblical Exegesis, it was concluded that the use of El-Shaddai taught Israel that God is still the greatest Person above all even though His human dwelling place, the Temple, has collapsed. The collapse of this building did not necessarily cause God to collapse as well. The use of El-Elyon in the major prophets provides important news that God is still the highest Person even though His people are being held captive in Babylon. The greatness of the Babylonian king is not comparable to the greatness of God who will later bring Israel out of Babylonian captivity. The use of these two combined names of God provides an important message for the people who are being held captive: God is still the great and high Person and is invincible by anything. For this reason, God's people must still place their trust only in God. The exile they experience is only temporary if they respond with faith. Belief in God must continue to grow when they experience oppression during exile. Keywords: El-Shaddai, El-Elyon, The Major Prophets
