Abstract

Adolescence is an important transition phase in human life, namely the transition from childhood, sexual behavior is unhealthy among unmarried teenagers, increasing premarital sex which is still common in Indonesia due to lack of attention from parents, economics, free association, lack of knowledge about reproductive health and the environment. This study aims to determine the correlation between adolescent knowledge about pregnancy and attitudes towards preventing premarital sex in adolescents at SMA 02 Bengkulu City. This study uses a quantitative descriptive correlational method and a cross-sectional approach. The research population is all 476 female students of grades X and XI of SMA 02 Bengkulu City with a sample of 83 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. The research instrument is a questionnaire on adolescent knowledge about pregnancy and adolescent attitudes in preventing premarital sex. Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most respondents had knowledge about pregnancy in the categories of poor, adequate, and good. Poor scores were <56%, adequate scores were 56-75%, and good scores were 76-100%. The results of the square test showed a significant correlation between adolescent knowledge about pregnancy and attitudes toward preventing premarital sex among adolescents at SMA 02 in Bengkulu City (p <0.05). This study is expected to contribute to the development of nursing science, particularly community nursing and adolescent reproductive health. It also serves as a reference for educational institutions, the nursing profession, and schools in developing reproductive health education programs by optimizing adolescent knowledge about strategies for preventing premarital sex.

Abstract

Food poisoning is a health problem that still frequently occurs among adolescents, mainly due to a lack of knowledge and attitudes in implementing food safety. Adolescents tend to consume unhygienic street foods, thus increasing the risk of food poisoning. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of adolescents in preventing food poisoning in the working area of the Padang Serai Community Health Center, Bengkulu City in 2026. This research method is quantitative with a cross-sectional research design. The sampling technique used total sampling. The research instrument used a questionnaire on knowledge and attitudes about preventing food poisoning. Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately using appropriate statistical tests to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitude variables. The results of the univariate analysis showed that most respondents had a sufficient level of knowledge and attitudes in preventing food poisoning. The results of the bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between knowledge and attitudes of adolescents in preventing food poisoning with a p-value <0.05, so Ho was rejected. This indicates that the better the level of adolescent knowledge, the more positive the adolescent's attitude in preventing food poisoning. Researchers suggest that the Padang Serai Community Health Center increase health promotion and education activities for adolescents regarding food safety and the prevention of food poisoning through counseling, information media, and collaboration with schools and the community, thereby increasing knowledge and forming positive attitudes among adolescents in preventing food poisoning.

Abstract

The use of digital devices involving intensive visual activity has become an emerging eye health concern. The World Health Organization reports that approximately 40–90% of individuals engaged in high visual activity experience eye fatigue. In Indonesia, the prevalence of visual impairment reaches 4.8%, while internet usage has covered 79.5% of the population, including children and adolescents. High exposure to digital screens among school-aged individuals increases the risk of developing Asthenopia. This study aimed to determine a correlation between smartphone use and the frequency of playing online games with the incidence of asthenopia. This study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 61 respondents selected using stratified random sampling technique. The research instruments included questionnaires on smartphone use, frequency of playing online games, and asthenopia measured using the Visual Fatigue Index. Data analysis was conducted using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test, and multivariate analysis using binary logistic regression. The univariate results showed that most respondents had a moderate level of smartphone use (59.0%) and a low frequency of playing online games (50.8%). A total of 45.9% of respondents experienced asthenopia. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant correlation between smartphone use and asthenopia (p = 0.000), as well as between the frequency of playing online games and asthenopia (p = 0.000). The researchers recommend that Bentiring Health Center and schools enhance eye health education through counseling programs, regulate the duration of smartphone use, and encourage periodic eye rest to prevent asthenopia.

Abstract

Bronchial asthma is a chronic respiratory disease characterized by shortness of breath, coughing, and wheezing that can recur. The prevalence of asthma in Bengkulu Province reaches 1.4% (SKI 2023), and Lingkar Timur Community Health Center is among the areas with the highest number of sufferers. The Buteyko breathing technique is a non-pharmacological therapy aimed at improving breathing patterns. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Buteyko technique on the frequency of bronchial asthma relapses. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test post-test design. The sample consisted of 18 respondents selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data on the frequency of relapses were collected before and after the Buteyko technique intervention and analyzed using a paired t-test. The results showed a significant reduction in the frequency of asthma relapses after Buteyko breathing technique implementation with a p-value <0.05, indicating that this technique is effective in reducing bronchial asthma relapses. Healthcare professionals are advised to educate asthma patients about the Buteyko technique as a supportive therapy. Community health centers can integrate these exercises to help control symptoms and improve patients' quality of life.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis is a communicable disease that remains a major public health problem, in which treatment success is strongly influenced by patients’ adherence to medication. Medication adherence is affected by various factors, including the role of health workers and family support. This study aims to examine the relationship between the role of health workers and family support and medication adherence among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in the working area of Telaga Dewa Public Health Center, Bengkulu City. This study employed an analytical research design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all pulmonary tuberculosis patients in the working area of Telaga Dewa Public Health Center, Bengkulu City, with a sample size of 69 respondents. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires, while data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents perceived the role of health workers as inadequate, amounting to 40 respondents (58.0%), and had low family support, with 38 respondents (55.1%). In addition, most respondents were non-adherent to medication, totaling 37 respondents (53.6%). The bivariate analysis indicated a significant relationship between the role of health workers and medication adherence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients (p-value < 0.05). Likewise, a significant relationship was found between family support and medication adherence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients (p-value < 0.05). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between the role of health workers and family support and medication adherence among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. It is expected that both health workers and family members can enhance their roles in supporting treatment adherence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients.
