Abstract

Innovative teaching strategies are essential for improving student learning outcomes and developing Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). This study examines the effectiveness of the Jigsaw learning strategy in enhancing students’ critical thinking, analytical abilities, and problem-solving skills in Social Science at MTsS Ashhabul Yamin Lasi. A quasi-experimental design was used, involving two groups: an experimental group that implemented the Jigsaw strategy and a control group that followed conventional teaching methods. Data were collected through pretests and posttests, incorporating multiple-choice and descriptive tests to assess both learning outcomes and HOTS. Statistical analysis included correlation techniques and simple regression, processed using SPSS version 2.6. The study sample comprised eighth-grade students, selected from the total student population at the school. The research process included three phases: pretest, Jigsaw strategy implementation, and posttest. The findings indicate that students in the Jigsaw group demonstrated significant improvements in learning outcomes and HOTS compared to those in the control group. The strategy fostered collaborative learning, enhancing students’ ability to think critically, analyze concepts, and solve problems more effectively. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the practice of sasuku marriage within the Minangkabau customary system and its evaluation from the perspective of Islamic law. The research seeks to uncover the underlying social, cultural, and religious dimensions that shape the prohibition of sasuku marriage in Minangkabau society, which adheres to a matrilineal lineage system. Employing a descriptive-analytical approach through library research methods, data were collected from books, academic journals, legal documents, and relevant scholarly works accessed both physically and digitally. The findings indicate that the sasuku marriage prohibition functions as a social mechanism to preserve kinship harmony and prevent moral disorder, aligning with Islamic ethical principles regarding lineage and modesty. The study concludes that this customary norm not only upholds social balance but also reflects a harmonious integration between adat (customary law) and syarak (Islamic law). Conceptually, the research contributes to the discourse on legal pluralism and the coexistence of religion and tradition in Indonesia, highlighting how Islamic principles adapt within local cultural frameworks while maintaining their normative integrity. This study provides valuable insights into the evolving relationship between Islamic jurisprudence, indigenous law, and social transformation in matrilineal societies.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the integration of religious moderation values in social science education at Madrasah Tsanawiyah in West Sumatra Province, utilizing a mixed-methods approach that combines qualitative and quantitative methodologies to gain a comprehensive understanding of the application of these values. The research sample consisted of 10 Madrasah Tsanawiyah, purposively selected to reflect geographical variations and institutional characteristics. The qualitative approach was employed to explore the perceptions of teachers, principals, and students regarding the implementation of religious moderation through in-depth interviews and classroom observations. Meanwhile, the quantitative approach involved distributing questionnaires to students to measure their understanding of the concept of religious moderation and the effectiveness of its application in learning. The results indicate that the values of religious moderation have begun to be integrated into the social science learning process, although various challenges persist. These challenges include inadequate training for teachers and a lack of curriculum guidelines that explicitly direct the application of religious moderation in teaching. The integration of the findings from both qualitative and quantitative analyses suggests that, while efforts to integrate the values of religious moderation have commenced positively, further support is necessary, particularly in the form of institutional frameworks and resources to enhance teacher training and develop comprehensive curriculum guidelines.

Abstract

The ongoing Houthi insurgency in Yemen has led to severe humanitarian impacts, particularly affecting women and children as the most vulnerable groups. This research examines the protection of human rights for women and children amidst continuous violations committed by the Houthi armed movement. Using a qualitative field research approach, the study is based on direct interviews with humanitarian workers, legal experts, and victims, supported by the analysis of human rights reports and international legal instruments. The findings reveal that despite the existence of frameworks, such as Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), protection remains ineffective due to political instability, the dominance of non-state actors, and limited access for humanitarian organizations. Key violations include child soldier recruitment, sexual violence, forced displacement, and denial of access to education and healthcare. The study concludes that stronger international monitoring mechanisms, targeted sanctions, and the integration of gender- and child-sensitive frameworks into Yemen’s peacebuilding agenda are urgently needed. This study contributes a field-based legal analysis of the systemic failures in protecting the rights of women and children in armed conflict, and emphasizes the importance of a more effective international legal response in the context of the dominance of non-state armed actors.

Abstract

This study comprehensively examines the position of female witnesses in Islamic law, focusing on the scholarly debates regarding the acceptance or rejection of female testimony, particularly in cases related to criminal law (hudud). Using a qualitative approach, this study analyzes the theoretical and legal foundations that underpin the role of female witnesses and evaluates their application in Indonesia's modern judicial system. The main sources of this research include classical texts of Islamic law, the views of scholars, and applicable positive legal regulations. This research is conducted as a library study, drawing from classical texts of Islamic law, scholarly views, and relevant positive legal regulations. The findings reveal differing interpretations regarding women's testimony, with some classical scholars placing less weight on it compared to men, while contemporary perspectives tend to be more inclusive, aligning with principles of justice and equality. The results show that, although challenges remain in implementation, the role of female witnesses is increasingly recognised and accepted in the Indonesian judiciary, especially in cases that require a female perspective. The main contribution of this research is to provide insights that strengthen the discussion on gender justice in Islamic law, while offering recommendations to optimise women's participation in the legal process. These recommendations include strengthening policies that ensure witness equality based on the principles of maqasid al-shariah (the objectives of sharia) and applying norms that are more contextualised to social realities in Indonesia. As such, this research contributes to the development of a more just and inclusive justice system, capable of addressing contemporary legal and social challenges.

Abstract

The determination of nasab for children born outside of marriage is a multifaceted legal and social issue, especially within the context of family law in Indonesia. This study delves into the critical role and decisions of Religious Courts in Indonesia concerning the nasab of such children, exploring how these courts balance national legal frameworks with the principles of Islamic law. Through a comprehensive analysis, the study highlights the legal factors, justifications, and ratio decidendi that underpin the decisions of the Religious Courts. It is imperative to understand the methodologies these courts employ in interpreting legal precedents, applying Islamic jurisprudence, and considering the broader social implications of their rulings. The investigation also looks into the procedural aspects of these cases, including the presentation of evidence, the involvement of legal and religious experts, and the impact of societal norms and pressures on judicial outcomes. It explores how the rulings influence public perceptions of legitimacy, inheritance rights, and social status, as well as their impact on the lives of children born outside of marriage and their families. The findings of this study underscore the dynamic interplay between religious norms and legal requirements in Indonesia, highlighting the challenges and opportunities in harmonizing these two systems. The study concludes by emphasizing the necessity for ongoing research to evaluate the long-term effects of these rulings on children's rights, social cohesion, and the development of a more inclusive and just legal framework.
