Abstract

In 2023, the city of Bandung faced serious problems because the Sarimukti landfill caught fire and the city of Bandung experienced a "waste emergency". One of the programs launched is the construction of maggot houses in every sub-district in Bandung City with a target of processing 1 ton of organic waste/day. Mengger Sub-district is one of the sub-districts that received assistance to build maggot house. The land area of the maggot house is 150 m2, managed by 4 officers. This study aims to identify various problems that must be resolved first so that the circular economy concept can be implemented at the Mengger Maggot House. The study was carried out by conducting observations, detailed surveys and in-depth interviews with various stakeholders in Mengger Sub-district. Observations were carried out to see the level of compliance of residents in sorting, a detailed survey was carried out on the waste collection and processing system at the maggot house, and in-depth interviews were conducted with assistants from Bandung City Environmental Service Office (DLH), maggot buyers, sub-district officials, maggot house officers, neighbourhood (RT) and hamlet (RW), and waste collector. Based on the results of observations, it was found that only some residents carry out sorting consistently, a collection system already exists in each RT/RW but they have not implemented a segregated waste collection system, and there is no system for transporting waste from the RW to the maggot house so that the amount of organic waste entering the maggot house is still low, no electricity and clean water, no choppers, leaks in the fly cage, and no diversification in maggot products. Through various socialization activities and Focus Group Discussions with all stakeholders, various agreements were obtained to resolve various problems at the Mengger Maggot House.

Abstract

This study explores stakeholder participation in waste management communication in Bandung City, which frequently faces waste emergencies. Despite the government's implementation of various waste management programs, the issue remains unresolved. Effective waste management requires active collaboration among all stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, media, and community leaders. Using a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative case study approach, this research examines the roles of government entities (Bandung City Environment Agency, PD. Kebersihan, and Bapelitbang), non-governmental actors (Forum Bandung Juara Bebas Sampah/BJBS, including environmental activists, academics, and business representatives), as well as media and community leaders. Informants were purposively selected based on their involvement in waste management efforts. Findings reveal that collaboration occurs between the government, legislators, and grassroots environmental activist groups, such as BJBS, which directly engages in waste management initiatives. However, from a pentahelix collaboration perspective, effective communication requires greater involvement of mass media, both conventional and digital. Currently, waste management communication relies mainly on social media accounts with limited reach, such as Humas Bandung, Dinas Lingkungan Hidup Kota Bandung, and Forum BJBS. This limited engagement hinders public awareness and participation. To achieve a sustainable solution, public involvement and awareness must be strengthened, ensuring that waste management is a shared responsibility rather than solely the government's duty.

Abstract

This study examines how employees perceive and trust Algorithmic Performance Appraisal (APA) in digital-native and technology-driven companies. Adopting Organizational Justice Theory, the Trust in Technology Framework, and Cognitive Appraisal Theory, the research explores both the direct and indirect effects of APA on employee trust, with Perceived Procedural Fairness (PPF) as a mediating variable. The study uses a quantitative, cross-sectional approach, collecting data from 200 employees in technology-based organizations and analyzing the data with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Results show that APA significantly enhances both procedural fairness and employee trust, with PPF playing a partial mediating role in this relationship. These findings underscore the importance of transparency, procedural legitimacy, and avenues for employee voice in cultivating trust in algorithmic systems. The study’s theoretical contribution lies in its integration of multiple perspectives on trust and fairness within algorithmic HR management. The practical implication calls for the careful design and implementation of APA systems that employees perceive as fair and trustworthy. Future research should investigate these relationships in longitudinal and multi-contextual settings to deepen the understanding of trust dynamics in evolving AI-mediated work environments.

Abstract

Waste management remains a critical urban challenge in Indonesia, particularly in Bandung City, where increasing waste generation demands community-based solutions. Women often play a central role in household and community waste practices, yet their contributions are frequently overlooked. This study adopts an ecofeminist perspective, which links women’s roles with environmental sustainability, to examine their strategic position in addressing waste management issues. The research aims to explore the movements and activities of women waste activists in Bandung, analyze the communication strategies they use to raise public awareness, and propose a model of environmental communication grounded in ecofeminism. Employing a qualitative method with an action research approach, the study emphasizes participatory and collaborative processes. Data were collected through observation, literature review, and in-depth interviews with women activists from several Bandung communities, including Mandalajati, Sumur Bandung, Wates, Jamaras, Cibunut, and Antapani Tengah. Informants were selected purposively, and data analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, with triangulation ensuring data validity. The findings reveal that women act as key agents in sorting, processing, and recycling waste. Their communication practices are rooted in values of care, sustainability, and collective responsibility, which enable them to build environmental awareness and influence behavioral change in their communities. Communication strategies identified include direct education, the use of community media, environmental campaigns, and role modeling in everyday life. The study concludes with the formulation of an ecofeminist-based environmental communication model, positioning women as pivotal change agents and emphasizing that sustainable waste management requires inclusive communication and active female participation at the local level.
