Abstract

The adoption of digital payments by micromerchants in South Jakarta remains low. This study aims to investigate the reasons behind this reluctance, identify the factors that contribute to it, and suggest potential solutions. Qualitative research method was used. The research sample consisted of microentrepreneurs in the culinary, food and beverage, grocery, and home laundry sectors. Data were collected through interviews and observations in order to gain a more detailed understanding. The findings indicate that a significant proportion of small entrepreneurs remain reluctant to utilize digital payments because of a lack of comprehension regarding its utilization. This underscores the necessity for the provision of education and training to micro-merchants regarding the advantages and operational aspects of digital payments. This could potentially enhance the adoption of digital payments among micromerchants and facilitate more efficient business operations.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the dual role of community organizations (OMS) in managing illegal parking in Jakarta. The focus is to understand how OMS are not only involved in economic exploitation but also contribute to law enforcement in public spaces. A mixed-method approach is used to gain a comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon. Quantitative data was collected through surveys administered to users of illegal parking services and members of civil society organizations (CSOs). Qualitative data were collected through focused group discussions involving Pemuda Pancasila, FBR, Forkabi, and other informal actors. Findings show that CSOs have a dual function: they act as parking enforcement officers while also engaging in the collection of illegal fees. Although operating outside the formal legal framework, their presence reflects a hybrid governance model that fills institutional gaps in the provision of public services. More inclusive and participatory urban governance policies are needed to address the complexity of informal regulation in city management. This study contributes to the understanding of informal governance and hybrid authority in urban environments. The novelty lies in the dual role of OMS in addressing illegal parking and informal parking governance.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia face persistent challenges in improving labor productivity amid rapid digital transformation and the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI). Although digitalization has increased substantially, its productivity effects remain uneven across provinces and are influenced by institutional, cultural, and religious contexts. Grounded in Ibn Khaldun’s concepts of asabiyyah and tadbir al-‘umran, this study examines the relationship between digitalization, AI adoption, and MSME labor productivity while assessing the moderating role of religiosity. The study employs an explanatory quantitative approach using provincial-level panel data during 2020–2023. The primary estimation uses a fixed-effects model with robust standard errors, complemented by exploratory analyses using Double Machine Learning, Causal Forest, and XGBoost. The findings show that digitalization has a positive and significant effect on labor productivity, whereas AI adoption has not yet generated measurable productivity gains. Religiosity marginally weakens the relationship between digitalization and productivity, indicating transitional adaptation frictions within highly normative environments rather than resistance to technology. These findings suggest that sustainable productivity gains depend not only on technological adoption, but also on institutional capacity, ethical governance, and collective learning mechanisms. The study contributes to the digital transformation literature by extending Ibn Khaldun’s institutional perspective and offers policy insights for strengthening sustainable MSME digital ecosystems in Indonesia.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates how transformational leadership influences employee engagement in hybrid work environments, addressing a research gap in understanding leadership mechanisms that operate across both remote and in-office contexts. Methodology/approach: A mixed-methods design was employed by surveying 94 employees reduced from an initial 150 responses following data cleaning and conducting semi-structured interviews with 15 managers. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, while qualitative data were examined through thematic analysis to deepen the interpretation of the survey findings. Results/findings: The results show that transformational leadership, particularly through idealized influence and inspirational motivation, is positively associated with employee engagement in hybrid settings. Communication quality and trust function as key mediating factors that strengthen this relationship. Conclusion: The study concludes that transformational leadership plays a critical role in sustaining employee engagement within hybrid work arrangements. Effective communication and trust-building emerge as essential leadership practices for maintaining employee commitment across flexible work modalities. Limitations: The generalizability of the findings is constrained by the reduced sample size after data cleaning and the cross-sectional nature of the study. Contribution: This research contributes to the growing literature on hybrid work by contextualizing transformational leadership within blended work environments and by offering practical guidance for leaders seeking to foster engagement through communication and trust-building strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) method assisted by social media in improving students’ MSME branding abilities from a business management perspective. The background of this study is based on the still limited practical abilities of students in implementing digital branding strategies relevant to business needs. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles, including the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were Management Study Program students taking the Social Media Technology course. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, performance assessment, documentation, and questionnaires, while data analysis used qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results of the study indicate a significant improvement in students’ abilities in the aspects of branding strategy planning, content creativity, and MSME social media management, with the average score increasing from 66.7 in Cycle I to 83.3 in Cycle II. In addition, there was an increase in student participation, collaboration, and active involvement in the learning process. These findings indicate that the integration of PBL with social media is able to create contextual, applicable, and experience-based learning that is relevant to modern business management practices, particularly in digital marketing and MSME development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze digital fatigue among employees in dealing with the intensity of technology use in an increasingly digitalized work environment. The development of technology provides convenience in carrying out work activities, but continuous use of digital devices may also increase work demands, information overload, communication frequency, and employees’ connection to work. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method through a literature review of relevant scientific publications related to digital fatigue, technostress, technology use intensity, and employee well-being. The data were analyzed descriptively by grouping the findings into technology use intensity, digital fatigue conditions, and their impacts on employees’ work activities. The results showed that computer or laptop use was the most dominant form of technology use at 92%, followed by work communication applications at 87% and smartphone use for work at 84%. Regarding digital fatigue, fatigue after using digital devices reached 86%, eye fatigue 81%, difficulty maintaining concentration 74%, and digital activity-related boredom 72%. Meanwhile, the identified impacts included decreased work concentration at 74%, increased work boredom at 72%, disrupted work-life balance at 68%, decreased work engagement at 61%, and decreased job satisfaction at 57%. These findings indicate that intensive technology use needs to be balanced with digital workload management, appropriate working and resting schedules, and organizational support so that technology can continue to improve productivity without increasing employee fatigue.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between psychological safety and employee engagement in creating positive work experiences among employees in modern work environments. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The participants consisted of 60 employees selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire measuring psychological safety and employee engagement. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis. The results showed that psychological safety was categorized as high, with a mean score of 3.84, while employee engagement was also categorized as high, with a mean score of 3.91. The correlation test produced a coefficient of r = 0.680 with a significance value of p < 0.001, indicating a positive relationship between psychological safety and employee engagement. These findings indicate that employees who experience greater psychological safety in the workplace tend to demonstrate higher levels of engagement in their work. A sense of safety in expressing opinions, presenting ideas, providing feedback, asking questions, and interacting with colleagues and supervisors can provide employees with greater opportunities to participate actively and demonstrate energy and dedication toward their work. Therefore, creating a psychologically safe work environment can be an important aspect of supporting employee engagement and fostering positive work experiences in modern workplaces.
