Abstract

Agroforestry farming systems can be used to optimize agricultural yields while preserving nature, such as increasing soil fertility and controlling erosion. The agroforestry program is important to implement in the upstream area of the Lukulo watershed, one of which is in Gunungsari Village, Kebumen Regency. Methods of data collection is done by questionnaires, interviews, and observation. Planning for planting begins with socialization of activities and is carried out in a participatory manner by involving the community in planning and implementation. Based on the socialization of the program and collecting data on farmers' interests, the result was that all farmers (24 people in total) were interested in participating in the agroforestry program. Based on the results of discussions with participants, the types of plants most in demand were sengon, corn and coffee. The results of the implementation of participatory socialization and land data collection showed that the Gunungsari Village community was willing to carry out planting using the agroforestry model. Land data collection was carried out by visiting farmers' fields to find out land conditions such as land cover area, land form, access to land, taking coordinates and documentation and attaching a barcode to the registered land. Trees4Trees provides planting socialization and training to participating farmers to explain good and correct planting methods, so that 100% of participants are interested in the agroforestry program.

Abstract

Jatirejo Village is a hilly area where some places tend to have depressions so that they are prone to puddles. Therefore, a system is needed that can help infiltrate water into the soil, one of which is biopori, based on organic waste and plastic bottles. This service aims to provide education related to biopores as well as train Jatirejo Village residents to make and apply biopores, especially in the basin area, to reduce the risk of flood threats. The methods used were lectures, discussions, and hands-on practices carried out in four stages, namely situation analysis and preparation, socialization, implementation, and evaluation. In general, the results of the analysis showed that the participants were satisfied with the training and that the training activities provided positive benefits, as evidenced by the significant increase in knowledge after the participants participated in the biopore training activities.

Abstract

Climate change and environmental degradation pose serious threats to ecosystem sustainability, particularly in forest-village areas that are vulnerable to ecological disasters. Peron Village is one such forest village with potential commodities such as coffee, aren, rubber, and avocado. However, it also faces the risks of landslides and negative interactions with wild animals. To address these challenges, the PPK Ormawa HIMA IPA dan Lingkungan UNNES, implemented the Agrosiaga Program, which was designed through a Training of Trainer (ToT) approach combined with conservation planting activities. The program included biodiversity education, wildlife handling training, and the planting of tabebuya and avocado seedlings as buffer plants on sloping areas. The results indicated an improvement in community knowledge and awareness of environmental conservation, along with a paradigm shift in perceiving wildlife that was previously considered a threat. Therefore, the Agrosiaga  can be regarded as a model of forest-village empowerment that integrates ecological, social, and economic aspects in a synergistic manner and has the potential to be replicated in other villages facing similar challenges.

Abstract

Coffee husk waste is one of the largest agro-industrial byproducts, often underutilized and contributing to environmental problems. Converting this waste into liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) offers a sustainable solution for waste management and agricultural productivity. This study aimed to evaluate the physicochemical characteristics of coffee husk LOF and its effect on corn seed germination and early growth. Fermentation was carried out anaerobically for two months using EM4 as a bioactivator and molasses as a nutrient source. The resulting LOF showed favorable properties, including a neutral pH, a sweet-acidic odor, a dark brown color, and a viscosity close to that of water, which makes it easy to apply. Nutrient analysis showed nitrogen (1.57%), phosphorus (0.14%), and potassium (0.23%), totaling 1.94%. These values indicate that the N-organic content meets the minimum requirement, while the total NPK is slightly below the Indonesian National Standard (2-6%). Application of LOF at concentrations of 0.3-0.5% (v/v) significantly accelerated germination and increased root length, while shoot height and leaf number were not significantly affected. The findings demonstrate that coffee husk waste can be transformed into LOF with acceptable quality and positive effects on early plant growth. Further optimization of fermentation conditions and nutrient enrichment is recommended to meet full quality standards and broaden its application potential in sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

Styrofoam is widely used as packaging for food, drinks and electronic goods. Usually stirofoam is only used once and thrown away. Styrofoam causes environmental problems, so efforts are needed to degrade it. Using larvae Tenebrio molitor is expected to be an innovative and environmentally friendly solution. The larval stage is used because larvae require large amounts of food for their growth. The larvae's food consists of organic waste such as fruit, vegetables, leaves, rice and others. In fact, stirofoam is considered organic waste because it is made from petroleum which contains hydrocarbons. T. molitor were chosen because they are not consumed by humans. This research aims to analyze the ability of T. molitor to be biodegradation agents for stirofoam. The research stages include cultivating T. molitor for 30 days and analysis which includes viability analysis and larval content using FTIR. The research method used is an experimental method with quantitative data collection. The results of the study showed that even though there was chewing activity, there was no stirofoam content in the bodies of T. molitor.

Abstract

Peron Village is one of the local coffee centers that produces abundant post-harvest waste in the form of coffee grounds and husks. So far, this waste has not been optimally utilized and has the potential to pollute the soil, increase organic pollution, and reduce the quality of the rural environment. This condition calls for innovation based on the circular economy. The hypothesis of this study is that the involvement of young people through a social entrepreneurship approach in coffee waste management can create environmentally friendly innovations while strengthening local economic resilience. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation techniques, as well as validation through source and method triangulation. Research informants included members of the Karang Taruna youth organization, coffee farmers, community leaders, and micro-business actors in Peron Village. The results showed that young people played an active role in processing coffee waste into liquid organic fertilizer, cascara, and briquettes. These products not only reduce environmental pollution but also increase soil fertility, open up opportunities for functional food businesses, and provide environmentally friendly alternative energy. The involvement of young people demonstrates their strategic role as agents of change who integrate social, economic, and environmental benefits. The conclusion of this study confirms that coffee waste processing based on social entrepreneurship is an effective youth empowerment strategy, supporting the achievement of SDGs 7, 12, and 15, and has the potential to be replicated in other villages to promote sustainable development.

Abstract

Peron Village, Kendal Regency, is one of the coffee production centers in Central Java that generates large amounts of coffee husk waste. This waste has the potential to cause environmental problems if it is not properly managed. Coffee husks can be processed into cascara, a value-added product that supports the concept of a circular economy. This article aims to describe efforts to optimize coffee plantation waste into certified cascara products through assistance in fulfilling food safety standards and business legal requirements. This activity is part of the Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa) implemented in Peron Village, involving the Sekar Group as a partner. The implementation method employed a participatory approach through several stages, including problem identification using Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), assistance in the cascara production process, socialization on the importance of SP-PIRT certification, technical and administrative assistance, sanitation counseling, as well as monitoring and evaluation. The indicators of success for this activity included active member participation, administrative readiness, successful processing of coffee husk waste, a more hygienic and standardized production process, increased understanding of food safety, and the issuance of an SP-PIRT certificate (one document). The results show an increase in the partners’ capacity for the hygienic and sustainable processing of coffee husk waste, improved understanding of food regulations, and enhanced business administrative readiness. This assistance successfully facilitated the issuance of an SP-PIRT certificate for the cascara product “Peronara Tea,” which has contributed to increased consumer confidence and expanded product marketing opportunities. Thus, the optimization of coffee husk waste based on a circular economy approach, supported by business legality, has proven to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of community-based MSMEs.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to empower women in Tugu Lor Village as Pancasila agent women through training in making red onion sticks. By utilizing the local potential of red onion, this training is expected to increase the added value of the product, empower the community's economy, and strengthen the values of Pancasila and implement it into various aspects of daily life. The object used in this activity is red onions as a local superior product of Tugu Lor Village into brown sugar stik. The method used is socialization and training based on theory and practice by actively involving PKK mothers. The service results obtained from this activity are increasing the skills and knowledge of PKK women in processing brown sugar into high-value products. In addition, this training also succeeded in strengthening the understanding and application of Pancasila values in everyday life. This service concludes that empowering women through productive economic activities can be one of the strategies to reduce the gender gap and improve the quality of life of the community.

Abstract

Indonesia with its abundant natural resources, has long been known as a haven for various types of food crops. One local commodity that deserves attention is sweet potato. Unfortunately, the utilization of sweet potatoes as a staple food or as raw material for the food industry is still not optimal. A socialization and training program on product processing based on village potential was held on July 31, 2024, in Kotakan Village, Karanganyar, Demak. The program aimed to empower the community, especially the women of the Family Welfare Movement (PKK), by optimizing the local potential of purple sweet potatoes into economically valuable products, namely purple sweet potato bakpia. A total of 20 participants, consisting of PKK women, took part in the training. In this event, participants gained knowledge and skills regarding the production process of purple sweet potato bakpia, from raw material preparation to product packaging techniques. Through this training, it is hoped that the community can develop micro-businesses based on local potential, increase family income, and strengthen the village's economic independence. The results of the activity showed high enthusiasm from the participants and the potential for developing purple sweet potato bakpia as a unique culinary icon of the village.
