Abstract

The notion of Needs analysis has evolved over the decades. Currently, the process of requirements analysis has become significantly more comprehensive. Its purpose is to gather information about the learners and to establish the desired learning setting and atmosphere for studying English for Specific Purposes (ESP). This study was conducted in Politeknik Sandi Karsa. There were 23 students in nursing study program. The researcher provides a set of 12 themes, all of which received a consistently high ranking from all types of respondents as suitable learning material. The findings of this study are anticipated to serve as a point of reference for future research, namely in the areas of syllabus/RPS preparation and the development of English teaching materials for nursing students. There are numerous crucial factors that may be utilized as a valuable reference in the development of ESP materials for the sub-skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. It can be concluded that the majority of students prioritize the development of vocabulary and speaking skills over other skills due to their aspiration to work as a nurse abroad for nursing students at Politeknik Sandi Karsa Makassar Indonesia.

Abstract

Kegiatan ekonomi seringkali dianggap sebagai pemicu terjadinya pencemaran lingkungan, diiringi dengan timbulnya beragam bencana yang diakibatkan oleh faktor antropogenik. Kehadiran ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) tentunya menjadi komitmen penting yang patut diwujudkan di setiap sekolah sebagai sarana kognitif dalam mengatasi masalah-masalah lingkungan. Situasi tersebut mendasari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan. Dengan memperkenalkan materi ekonomi berwawasan lingkungan kepada guru dan siswa, diharapkan ESD dapat bertumbuh dan berkembang. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah ceramah dengan teknik presentasi beberapa materi terkait ekonomi berwawasan lingkungan selama 2 (dua) hari, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan tanya jawab. Kegiatan ini dikemas dalam bentuk diskusi, dan untuk memastikan efektifitas pelaksanaannya maka dilakukan evaluasi dalam bentuk instrumen angket yang diberikan kepada guru dan siswa SMAN 10 Makassar sebagai peserta. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian ini mendapat respons dari peserta dengan nilai rata-rata 89 yang termasuk dalam kategori “sangat baik”. Secara umum, kegiatan pengenalan materi ekonomi berwawasan lingkungan ini diharapkan dapat berkontribusi positif dalam rangka mendorong masyarakat agar lebih peduli pada kelestarian lingkungan melalui ESD di sekolah-sekolah sebagai tempat membangun kesadaran para generasi selanjutnya.

Abstract

Program pelatihan bahasa Inggris berbasis LSM Moodle ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi anggota POKDARWIS dengan menggunakan platform Moodle. Moodle adalah platform pembelajaran yang mendukung pembelajaran baik secara bauran/blended maupun full online yang interaktif, fleksibel, dan dapat diakses kapan saja. Sebanyak 17 peserta mengikuti pelatihan yang terdiri dari lima tahap: sosialisasi, pelatihan, penerapan teknologi, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Materi meliputi sapaan, perkenalan, deskripsi tempat wisata, etiket budaya, dan menangani keluhan wisatawan. Metode blended learning digunakan dengan kombinasi pembelajaran mandiri melalui LSM Moodle dan sesi praktik langsung. Namun selama implementasi, beberapa kendala yang dihadapi meliputi keterbatasan akses internet di beberapa titik lokasi mitra, kesenjangan keterampilan teknologi peserta, serta adaptasi terhadap metode pembelajaran baru. Dengan menyediakan materi yang dapat diakses secara offline, serta pendampingan yang intensif, hasil menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada kemampuan bahasa Inggris, dengan rata-rata skor post-test mencapai 84%, dibandingkan pre-test sebesar 43%. Selain itu, penguasaan teknologi oleh peserta meningkat, dengan 90% peserta merasa lebih percaya diri menggunakan teknologi dalam pekerjaan mereka. Program ini berhasil memperbaiki kualitas layanan wisata di Desa Bulue, meningkatkan profesionalisme anggota POKDARWIS, serta memberikan dampak ekonomi positif melalui peningkatan kunjungan wisatawan. Dengan demikian, pelatihan ini memberikan kontribusi nyata terhadap pengembangan pariwisata berbasis komunitas di Desa Bulue.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Hypnoteaching method in improving the reading comprehension of second-grade students at SMA Modern IMMIM Putra Makassar, and identify which level of reading comprehension is most affected by this method, including literal, inferential, and critical comprehension. A quasi-experimental design was applied in this research. The participants were second-grade students of SMA IMMIM Putra Makassar, divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group, each consisting of 30 students. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests. The results revealed that the mean posttest score of the experimental group 66.04 was higher than that of the control group 53.16. All three levels of reading comprehension improved significantly, as evidenced by the comparison of pretest and posttest mean scores. The largest improvement was observed in literal comprehension 87.66 > 44.00, followed by critical comprehension 59.66 > 54.00 and inferential comprehension 58.00 > 56.33. Based on these findings, it is concluded that the Hypnoteaching method is more effective than conventional teaching methods in improving the reading comprehension of second-grade students at SMA IMMIM Putra Makassar.

Abstract

Keterampilan berpikir kreatif merupakan kompetensi esensial yang dibutuhkan dalam pembelajaran ekonomi, terutama di tengah-tengah krisis lingkungan yang terjadi akibat kegiatan ekonomi. Namun, metode pembelajaran konvensional masih kurang efektif dalam menstimulasi kreativitas siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas e-modul ekonomi berwawasan lingkungan melalui articulate storyline 3 dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kreatif siswa di SMA Negeri 18 Makassar. Penelitian pengembangan ini merupakan jenis penelitian R&D dengan model yang telah dikembangkan oleh Borg & Gall. Data dikumpulkan dari penilaian dua orang ahli melalui lembar validasi ahli, serta respons dari dua orang guru dan 99 siswa melalui angket respons siswa. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji-t independen sampel dan N-Gain Score. Hasil penelitian melahirkan produk berupa e-modul yang dapat diakses oleh guru dan siswa menggunakan HTML. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari hasil uji kelayakan produk dari para ahli yang memberikan skor dalam kategori sangat baik dan dari respons guru dan siswa berdasarkan uji lapangan utama juga memberikan skor dengan kategori sangat baik. Hasil uji keefektifan memperoleh nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen sebesar 49,47 sedangkan nilai rata-rata kelas kontrol sebesar 35,80. Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa penggunaan e-modul semacam ini efektif meningkatkan kreativitas siswa melalui eksplorasi konsep dan pemecah masalah berbasis interaktivitas digital.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the most commonly used language learning strategies among English department students at Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM), assess their proficiency level based on TOEFL scores, and examine the relationship between their learning strategies and proficiency level. A correlational research design was applied, involving fourth-semester students from three study programs: English Education, English Literature, and Business English. The participants were selected through accidental sampling, focusing on students who took the TOEFL test provided by the English department's Centre for Language Services (CLS). Data collection was conducted using the SILL questionnaire and TOEFL score documentation, and analysis was performed through descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS. The findings revealed that metacognitive and social strategies were the most frequently used language learning strategies, falling within the high usage category. In terms of proficiency, students were classified at the basic user level based on their TOEFL scores. Additionally, the study found no significant correlation between students’ language learning strategies and their proficiency level, as the statistical analysis results indicated no meaningful association between the two variables.

Abstract

The integration of technology into education is increasingly vital, yet evidence regarding its effectiveness in specific learning contexts remains limited. This study addresses that gap by examining the impact of Moodle as a Learning Management System (LMS) on students’ English learning outcomes in a boarding school setting. A quasi-experimental pretest–post-test design was employed with 70 students divided equally into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was taught through Moodle LMS, while the control group received instruction via conventional lectures. Data were collected through tests, observations, interviews, and documentation, and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results revealed improvement in both groups, but the experimental group achieved significantly higher post-test scores, as confirmed by t-test analyses (p < 0.01). These findings demonstrate that Moodle LMS not only enhances academic performance but also promotes greater engagement, active participation, and access to structured learning resources. The study underscores the pedagogical potential of Moodle, particularly within boarding school environments, where students benefit from continuous, technology-supported interaction. The research contributes to growing evidence on the role of LMS platforms in fostering 21st-century learning and recommends their broader implementation to strengthen English language instruction and digital literacy skills.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on English language teaching in higher education. The scope of the study was limited to the opportunities and challenges of English language teaching. This study was conducted using a mixed method of conducting surveys and in-depth interviews. A questionnaire link using Spreadsheet’s Google Form was sent to the English lecturer through the WhatsApp group and personal contact No. The study sample consisted of 16 English lecturers. Analyzing the questionnaire and interview transcript indicates that the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has created opportunities and challenges for English language teaching and learning. AI has changed the landscape of English language teaching in higher education. English lecturers utilized different types of AI for various purposes, for example, asking and solving questions and checking for grammatical errors, checking plagiarism, paraphrasing, and reviewing literature. The study also revealed that AI has a variety of advantages for language teaching and learning, including the detection of plagiarism and grammatical errors. In addition, AI has created opportunities and challenges for the future of English language teaching. AI required digital literacy to utilize. The English teaching profession might be taken over by AI in the future, so English lecturers must continuously improve their digital literacy.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of the Snowball Throwing cooperative learning model on students’ learning outcomes in Social Studies (IPS) among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Tamalanrea, Makassar, Indonesia. The research employed a true experimental design using the posttest-only control group design. The population comprised 325 students, and a total of 64 students were randomly selected as samples, divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received instruction through the Snowball Throwing model, while the control group was taught using conventional methods such as lectures and assignments. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and observation sheets, then analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics with SPSS. The results revealed that students in the experimental group achieved significantly higher posttest scores compared to those in the control group (p < 0.05). This finding indicates that the Snowball Throwing cooperative learning model effectively enhances students’ engagement and academic performance in Social Studies. The study concludes that applying interactive and student-cantered learning models can improve conceptual understanding and social skills among elementary school learners.
