Abstract

This paper discusses the solution to rebuild surau education in Minangkabau. The crediting of the surau function occurs from time to time. In the 17th to 18th centuries, surau became the center of gravity of the community so that the development of an area was determined by the existence of surau. In stark contrast to the time of the Dutch East Indies Government until now, surau is nothing more than a place of worship and a place of recitation that is held periodically, and its function as a machine of knowledgeable people has been replaced by modern schools. At least, this old-style surau education is maintained because there a person's character, independence, and personality are formed. This special value is the reason for restoring surau as an educational institution for the development of quality human beings. Because the times have changed, the surau must be able to adjust to the situation to be able to survive. To find a way out in rebuilding surau, historical science is used that photographs the state of surau over time and its causality with the changing times. This science will show the factor of weakening and strengthening surau so that this will give rise to alternative and solutive ideas to form adaptive surau education.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research studied the effects of planting media on the growth of red Jabon (Anthocephalus macrophyllus (Havil) Roxb) seedlings. The objective was to determine the effect of several mixtures of soil, sand, and manure as a planting media for growing seedlings of red Jabon. The research was conducted in two months from April to July 2013, using a completely randomized design (CRD). There are 5 treatments of planting media, namely M1, M2, M3, M4, and M5. Each treatment has 5 replications and each replication was planted with one individual plant. Measured variables were plant height, trunk diameter and leaf number Analysis of variance was done and if there was a significantly different among treatments, a folowing LSD test was carried out. Increments of plant height were significantly different at 63 day after planting,(DAP) whereas increments of trunk diameter were significantly different at 49 DAP. Mixtures of soil, sand and manure showed significantly different effects, and adding sand to the soil with relatively high clay content (> 40%) was important to improve air and water circulation in planting media. Abstract

This journal discusses a new perspective on history in the XV-XVII centuries in the archipelago. This new perspective tries to balance the orientalist perspective and perfect the local perspective in depicting history during the Islamic kingdoms in the archipelago. This new perspective at least reduces the historical narrative that explains the superiority of "outsiders" in determining the fate of the archipelago. Then, this perspective will enrich the theme of Indonesian history which generally only pays attention to political and social issues in this era. At least, the narrative during this period shows the sophistication of thinking of local rulers who were able to create the archipelago into one of the centers of gravity for world trade. This is at least shown and discussed in depth. To obtain fragments of events that support the researcher's statement, a historical method is needed to select fragments of events through several sources, assemble them, and analyze them in depth.

Abstract

This article introduces a more comprehensive principle of local history by combining Indonesian and Western perspectives, each of which emerged from different backgrounds and produced distinct theorems. In Indonesia, local history emerged in the post-independence era to reconstruct local experiences neglected in national historical narratives. Similarly, in the West, local history developed as a critique of historiography focusing solely on prominent figures and political events. Both approaches share the aim of narrating the experiences of marginalised groups. Integrating Indonesian and Western perspectives has produced five key principles: heterogeneity, populism, multidisciplinarity, multiperspectivity, and a combination of phenomenological and objective approaches. This principle emerged through four stages of research: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography.

Abstract

This article explains how to select objective parts of historical films that will be used as learning media. That historical films not only visualize historical actors but also the atmosphere of a situation as a background for a historical event. Therefore, historical films are very susceptible to subjectivity. On the other hand, historical sources do not perfectly describe past events, but only describe events that are considered important. This article emphasizes that history teachers have the skills to select parts of films that measure their objectivity. This article uses historical research methods in the form of source collection, source criticism, interpretation, and writing. This article's contribution is not only limited to exploring the educational values of a historical film, but also to providing tools for history teachers in selecting fragments of events in historical films that have proven objectivity.
