Abstract

Nowadays, many people follow a healthy lifestyle and preserve the environment, increasing consumption of organic products and organic land in Indonesia. Consumers of organic products state the need for quality assurance in organic products. In contrast, many farmers have limited information about organic quality assurance and organic farming procedures. Education can be carried out through partnerships between organic farming companies and farmers. A partnership system is needed as an alternative effort for farmers and companies to overcome farming problems—the partnership relationship implemented between organic farmers and CV. Reja Mayur has existed for 6 years, starting in 2018. However, despite the growing public interest in organic products, the number of farmers participating in this partnership has decreased. This research aims to analyze factors influencing the decision-making of organic farmers in Claket Village regarding establishing a partnership with CV. Reja Mayur. The study took place between November and December 2023. The technique applied to define the number of respondents is “census,” which means the sample includes the entire population. The sample size used was 11 respondents, the number of CV Reja Mayur partner farmers until 2023. Data were analyzed using SEM-PLS by WarpPLS 7.0. The analysis demonstrated that personality (X1) and creative thinking (X3) significantly and positively affected farmers' decisions to join a partnership (Y). However, the participatory management style (X2) demonstrates a positive yet insignificant influence on farmers' decisions to join a partnership (Y).

Abstract

Unoptimal use of farmers' time leads to low income earned by farmers. The study aims to analyze the working hours of rice farmers, analyze factors that influence the allocation of rice farmers, time, and analyze farmers' income in rice farms. The study was conducted in January-March 2024 in Pulogede, Tambakboyo district, Tuban district. The sampling method is a random proportional sample with 71 farmers as respondents—primary data collection through interviews assisted by questionnaires. The first objective was quantified descriptively, the second used double linear regression analysis using SPSS analysis tools with variables independent of age, land area, working experience, working income, family dependence, and education, and the third objective calculated rice farmer income. The study found that the farmer's working time allocation was influenced by age, size of land, farming experience, farmers' income, number of dependent families, and education. The income earned by the rice farmer is IDR8.870,880/ season.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the sustainability level of rice farming in Buduran District, Sidoarjo Regency, in facing the challenges of climate change. The research was conducted from December 2025 to January 2026 using a quantitative approach. Data were collected from 78 rice farmers selected through multistage random sampling across five villages. Sustainability assessment was carried out using a Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) method with the RAP-Fish approach, covering three dimensions: economic, social, and environmental, represented by 21 attributes. The robustness of the model was evaluated using Monte Carlo simulation, while stress values and coefficients of determination (R²) were used to assess the goodness of fit. The results showed that the overall sustainability index of rice farming in Buduran District was 48.31, indicating a less sustainable category. Partially, the economic (47.70), social (47.42), and environmental (46.78) dimensions also fell into the same category. The environmental dimension showed the lowest sustainability level, reflecting high vulnerability to climate variability and environmental pressure. The stress value (0.13) and R² (0.95) indicated that the MDS model had good reliability and low distortion. These findings suggest that rice farming sustainability in Buduran District has not yet achieved a balanced integration of economic, social, and environmental aspects. Therefore, region-specific climate adaptation strategies are required to enhance the long-term sustainability of rice farming systems.

Abstract

Abstract

Bird’s eye chili is a high-value horticultural commodity and plays a significant role in supporting farmers' income. Pucuk Village, Dawarblandong District, Mojokerto Regency, is one of the main production areas with high productivity. However, farmers in this area still face marketing issues, particularly long distribution channels and limited access to market price information. This study aims to identify the marketing channels of bird’s eye chili, calculate marketing costs and margins, and analyze efficiency and farmer’s share in each channel. Data were collected from 50 farmers and 14 traders selected purposively. Quantitative analysis was conducted using formulas for margin, marketing costs, efficiency, and farmer’s share. The results revealed three marketing patterns: (1) farmer – retailer –consumer, (2) farmer–collector–retailer–consumer, and (3) farmer–wholesaler–collector – retailer–consumer. The first channel had the highest efficiency and a farmer’s share above 80%. In contrast, the longest channel provided higher margins for intermediaries but reduced the share received by farmers. In conclusion, shorter marketing channels are more efficient and beneficial for farmers. Therefore, strengthening farmer institutions and improving direct access to markets are essential to shorten the distribution chain.

Abstract

Urban expansion in Indonesia has led to a significant reduction in productive land, which has impacted household food security and created an economic burden due to fluctuations in horticultural commodity prices. This phenomenon is clearly evident in Asemrowo Village, Surabaya, where high residential density limits the use of backyards as productive spaces. This community service activity aims to enhance residents’ knowledge and technical skills in implementing polybag-based urban farming. The implementation method comprises three main stages: community education through interactive lectures, training through hands-on cultivation of chili peppers (Capsicum frutescens L.) and eggplants (Solanum melongena), and participatory mentoring. Program effectiveness was measured using pre-test and post-test instruments administered to participants. Evaluation results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ competencies; the average conceptual understanding score increased from 30 to 80, while the average technical and application score rose from 25 to 80. The use of polybags proved to have a high level of acceptance due to their flexibility and cost-efficiency for limited land. It was concluded that the integration of theoretical outreach and practical mentoring methods successfully changed residents’ perceptions and provided them with the ability to implement urban agriculture as a strategy for strengthening sustainable community food security
