Abstract

Pneumonia is an infectious disease that often affects toddlers due to low immunity, one of which is caused by poor nutrition, so their nutritional status is lacking. The lack of knowledge of mothers, aKnowledgemonia and the lack of proper dietary intake for toddlers can cause this. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and nutritional status and pneumonia incidence in toddlers at the Medika Utama Manggar Balikpapan Hospital. The research design was quantitative, using a correlation research type with a cross-sectional approach. The population of mothers and toddlers treated at the Medika Utama Manggar Balikpapan Hospital who were treated from October to December 2023 was 152 toddlers. The sampling technique was Purposive Sampling with the Slovin formula, which obtained 116 respondents. The data was analyzed using the Spearman Rank. The results obtained were a relationship between knowledKnowledgee incidence of pneumonia (p-value = 0.004) with a correlation of 0.266 (low relationship) and a positive relationship direction. In the nutritional status variable, there is a relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of pneumonia (p-value = 0.000) with a correlation of 0.354 (low relationship) and a positive relationship direction. It can be concluded that the incidence of pneumonia in toddlers can be caused by the lack of knowledge on how to treat pneumonia and the low nutritional status of toddlers. The recommended suggestion is that mothers increase their knowledge to fulfill children's nutrition needs according to their growth and development.

Hospitalization in preschool children often causes anxiety due to unfamiliar environments, separation from parents, and invasive medical procedures. Unmanaged anxiety may interfere with the healing process and prolong hospitalization. Prophet storytelling therapy is a non-pharmacological intervention that combines distraction and spiritual values to promote comfort and emotional security in children. Methods: This study employed a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 16 hospitalized preschool children aged 4–6 years at RSUD Inche Abdoel Moeis Samarinda, selected using purposive sampling. Anxiety levels were measured using the Spence Children's Anxiety Scale (SCAS) Parent Report before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: The findings revealed a significant reduction in anxiety levels following the implementation of prophet storytelling therapy. Prior to the intervention, most respondents experienced severe anxiety, whereas after the intervention, the majority showed mild anxiety levels. Statistical analysis Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test indicated a p-value of 0.002 (p < 0.05), confirming a significant difference in anxiety levels before and after the intervention. Conclusion: Prophet storytelling therapy is effective in reducing anxiety levels among hospitalized preschool children. Abstract

Abstract

Background: Adolescent obesity is an increasing public health problem influenced by lifestyle factors such as gadget use and sleep patterns. Excessive gadget use may promote sedentary behavior, while insufficient sleep can disrupt metabolic processes and increase the risk of weight gain among adolescents. Purpose: to analyze the relationship between gadget use, sleep patterns, and the incidence of obesity among adolescents. Method: This study employed a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all students in grades 7–9 at MTs Darul Ihsan and SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Samarinda. A total sampling technique was used, involving 152 respondents. Data were collected through anthropometric measurements to determine obesity status based on Body Mass Index (BMI) and self-administered questionnaires to assess gadget use duration and sleep patterns. Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analyzes using the Pearson Chi-Square test. Results: The majority of respondents were 13 years old (43.4%) and female (73.7%). Most adolescents had a high duration of gadget use (67.8%), and 50.7% experienced insufficient sleep duration (< 8 hours per day). Based on BMI measurements, 32.2% of respondents were classified as obese. Bivariate analysis showed no statistically significant relationship between gadget use and obesity (p-value = 0.075; OR = 2.020; 95% CI = 0.814–1.643). However, a statistically significant association was found between sleep patterns and obesity (p-value = 0.013; OR = 2.426; 95% CI = 0.756–1.833). Adolescents with insufficient sleep had approximately 2.4 times higher odds of being obese compared to those with normal sleep duration. Conclusion: Sleep patterns are significantly associated with obesity among adolescents, whereas gadget use does not show a statistically significant relationship. Since adolescent obesity is a multifactorial condition, comprehensive prevention strategies involving schools, healthcare providers, and families are necessary to promote healthy sleep habits and balanced lifestyles.
