Abstract

Abstract - Cimahi is known as a Military City with various historical legacies, especially from the era of Dutch colonialism. One of the Dutch colonial era legacies in Cimahi is the Cimahi Train Station (SKAC). SKAC has the potential to become a landmark of Cimahi based on its supportive historical context, unique function, and role for the city. Cimahi itself does not yet have a city identity or landmark that can represent its history and Military City image. With the potential of SKAC as a landmark for Cimahi, it is necessary to identify and explore the requirements of the city landmark's elements based on the criteria, characteristics, and types of landmark found in SKAC. Cimahi needs a city landmark because it requires an identity that represents its image as a Military City and a reference point or a landmark for human direction and location. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach with a historical research methodology to identify the criteria, characteristics, and types of landmark. The research was conducted at SKAC, located at Jl. Stasion No. 1, Baros Village, Cimahi Tengah District, Cimahi, West Java. This study identified landmark criteria according to Kevin Lynch's theory and landmark characteristics according to Donald Appleyard's theory at SKAC. The criteria and characteristics of landmarks were identified based on parameters and indicators from the researcher's observation, field observation, and literature review. Then, identifying the type of landmark according to Havva Alkan Balla's theory based on the researcher's perception and collective memory and the people of Cimahi. The results of this study indicate that SKAC has the potential to become a landmark of Cimahi. Additionally, SKAC falls into the landmark types of city memory-historical, daily life/city usage, and personal memory, supported by research in the form of interviews with Cimahi residents. These findings show that SKAC has an important role in the development of Cimahi and is worthy of becoming an icon or landmark of Cimahi. Abstract

Abstract

Urban rivers in rapidly growing Indonesian cities are frequently marginalized by uncontrolled development, resulting in degraded riparian zones that are ecologically dysfunctional and spatially disconnected from urban life. The study investigates the application of ecotourism principles as a framework for the revitalization of the Cikapundung Riverfront in downtown Bandung, focusing on the abandoned former Palaguna Mall site (±2.5 ha). Through a descriptive qualitative methodology, the research conducts a comparative precedent analysis of the Malacca River (Malaysia) and Cheonggyecheon Stream (South Korea) to derive design criteria across seven urban design dimensions: land use, attraction and character, access and connection, building form and massing, open space, support activities, and preservation. The results suggest that successful riverfront revitalization requires the simultaneous pursuit of sustainable tourism, creative tourism resource development, and dualtrack preservation, both ecological and historical. This evolved guideline framework encourages mixed use zoning with at least 40% blue green open space corridor, pedestrian priority networks with universal accessibility, building heights not exceeding 12 meters within the riverbank zone and adaptive reuse of colonial era heritage structures. The framework provides a replicable model for tropical urban waterfronts across Southeast Asian cities and offers concrete policy recommendations for the Bandung City Government's ongoing revitalization program.

Abstract

The Republic of Indonesia's Ministry of Religion reports more than 700,000 mosques in the country. Insufficient research has been conducted concerning this mosque-turned-building, particularly regarding how it may help the country accomplish its environmental commitments. The Istiqlal mosque received a green building assessment certificate (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiency) from the International Finance Corporation in April 2022. This certificate should serve as a foundation for future research into the distinctive features of mosque building designs in Indonesia and their potential to contribute to accomplishing national environmental targets. Mosque buildings as an embodiment of the concept of Rahmatan Lil Alamin or mercy for all of nature should be in line with the concept of green buildings which strive to preserve nature. This research aims to determine the challenges of implementing the green building concept in mosque buildings with a case study of two mosques in the city of Bandung. To identify their traits, this study employed observational methods, case studies, and interviews with mosque managers. The Minister of Public Works Regulation Number 21 of 2021 about Green Building Performance Assessment will be employed to examine and assess the gathered data. The outcomes demonstrate that the low-performance value persists. Considerable work is required to achieve the desired results. In-depth talks with stakeholders are also required to map the distinctive qualities of mosque structures and identify methods in which they can support the realization of national environmental preservation objectives while also exemplifying the principles of Rahmatan lil Alamin.
