Abstract

                                              ABSTRACT         This skripsi entitled Speech Disfluency on “English Speeches” Channel at Youtube (A Psycholinguistic Analysis). The thing that we often encounter in speech is disfluency. This disfluency itself occurs due to several factors, both from within and from outside the speaker. The objectives of this research are identify and classify kinds of disfluencies also analyze the factors made speech disfluency on speech videos at Youtube. The writer used Fox-Tree’s (1995) theory for identifying and classifying kinds of disfluencies and used Bortfeld’s, et al. (2001) theory for analyzing the factors made speech disfluencies. The writer used descriptive method in this research. The results of this research indicate that in some of the speech videos studied were found to be more dominant with silent and filled pauses, this is due the factors in the speaker when delivering their speech. Lack of preparation, the large number of audiences, the age of the speaker, the topic of the speech and the enviromental conditions at the time of delivering the speech also have a big effect on the speaker’s disfluency.Keywords: Speech Disfluency, Speech Videos YouTube, Psycholinguistics Analysis

Abstract

Rambing, DEA2                                    Donald R. Lotulung, S.S, M.Hum3      This research entitles “Analisis Tanda dalam Film Inferno Karya Dan Brown: Suatu Analisis Semiotik”. The aims of this research are to identify, classify, and analyze the kinds and meaning of signs in Inferno film. In this research, the writer uses Peirce’s theory in the process of identifying, classifying, and analyzing each scene containing the signs used the representamen aspect. The method of this research is descriptive. In doing this research, the writer read some books, semiotics journal, articles, and also downloaded resources from the internet. The data of signs were collected from every scene which contains sign in the film and analyzed according to Pierce’s theory. The result of this research shows that there are three kinds of signs in film, namely icons, index, and symbols. There are 9 icons, 4 indexes, and 17 symbols. They were found from 25 scenes in the Inferno film and each sign has different meanings.Keywords: Sign, Inferno Film, Semiotic Analysis

Abstract

                                                  ABSTRACT           Meme is a humorous picture that is used as a way of communicating ideas. Nowadays meme is does not only function as a fun way to communicate but also as a campaign medium, as advertisements, etcetera. That is why the writer decided to do a research entitled “Myth on Popular Culture Reference Meme on Knowyourmeme.com”. As a requirement to achieve the Bachelor Degree in English Department at Faculty of Humanities in Sam Ratulangi, this skripsi entitled “Myth on Popular Culture Reference Meme on Knowyourmeme.com” is finished and submitted. This research aims to identify and classify the signifier and signified element of pop culture reference memes. The result of the previous step will be used to analyze the myth in each meme to find out the new concept or new meaning. The writer used qualitative research method in this research. The data were collected from knowyourmeme.com and were analyzed using Barthes’ theory of myth. The new concept of each meme is dependent on the objective of the maker and could change according to the composition of text and image in the meme. This research is expected to be able to help students and readers in learning semiotics and the making of another researches about memes and semiotics.Keywords: Semiotic, Myth, Meme, Pop Culture Reference

Abstract

                                                    ABSTRACT        This research is entitled “Orientasi seksual dalam film Brokeback Mountain karya sutradara Ang Lee”. It is written to fulfill the requirements to complete undergraduate education majoring in English literature, Faculty of Humanities, Sam Ratulangi University. This study focuses on the sexual orientation depicted by the actors in the movie Brokeback Mountain. This research uses descriptive qualitative method by Bogdan and Biklen (1982) and used two theories to identify, classify, describes and analyze types of sexual orientation in Ang Lee's film Brokeback Mountain, the theory is the theory of J. Michael Bailey in his journal “ Sexual Orientation, Controversy, and Science” (2016) and theory from Mario Klarer in his book “An Introduction to Literary Studies” (2005). Based on the analysis of sexual orientation in the film Brokeback Mountain, it was found that the two main actors Ennis and Jack have an interest in each other, but on the other hand they have wives so it can be concluded that the two main characters in this film have a sexual orientation, namely bisexual.Keywords : Sexual Orientation, Literature and psychology, Film, Brokeback Mountain

Rambing, DEA                                Dr. Garryn Ch. Ranuntu, S.Pd, M.Hum        This research entitled is “Semiotic Analysis in The Movie 3 Idiots”. The objectives of this research are to indentify, classify, and analyze the denotative and connotative meanings in the 3 Idiots film. In this study, the authors used the theory of Barthes (1977) with the concept of denotation and connotation. Denotation is what we think of as a fixed literal and has a dictionary meaning in a word. Meanwhile, connotation is a change in the meaning of a word. In theory, all cultural objects can be processed textually. Thus, semiotics can examine various kinds of texts, one of which is film.. The results showed, there are 25 denotational meanings that explain the literal meaning of words and 25 connotative meanings that explain the expression or additional meaning of a word.Keywords : Semiotic, Denotation, Connotation, Film

Abstract

                                               ABSTRACT          This research entitled “Analisis Tanda Dalam Film Fantastic Beast : The Crimes of Grindelwald Karya David Yates”. The aims of this research are to identify and classify the kind of signs as well as to analyze the meanings of signs used in the film Fantastic Beast : The Crimes of Grindelwald. The writer uses the theory of Charles Sanders Pierce (1995) in the process of identifying, classifying, and analyzing each sign and the meaning of signs in Fantastic Beast : The Crimes of Grindelwald. The method used in this study is a descriptive method. In doing this research, the writer read some journals, books, and articles about signs. The data were collected by the writer from film Fantastic Beast : The Crimes of Grindelwald by watching, finding, and taking the piece of images that contain the signs, and then classifying them based on its kinds from the film. The classified data were analyzed to find out the meaning. The result of this research shows that based on the theory of Pierce (1995) there are three kinds of signs, namely icons, index, and symbols. Those are 7 icons, 12 indexes, 7 symbols. They were found from 26 scenes in the film Fantastic Beast : The Crimes of Grindelwald and each signs has different meaning.Keywords: Sign, Fantastic Beast : The Crimes of Grindelwald, Semiotic Analysis

Abstract

                                                   ABSTRACT       This research entitles “Sign Analysis in the movie Shazam! by David Sandberg. The aims of this research are to identify and classify the types of signs as well as to analyze the meaning of signs used in Shazam! movie. The writer uses the theory of Pierce (1955) in the process of identifying, classifying, and analyzing each scene containing the signs used the representament aspect. The method used in this study is descriptive method. To finish this study, the writer read some concepts related to the title about sign analysis and also downloaded resources from the internet. In collecting the data, the writer has watched 14 times Shazam! movie which is the object of the research. In addition to watching, the writer took pieces of image or visuals (screenshoot) from the movie scenes that are needed for research. The result of this research shows that based on the theory of Pierce there were 27 scenes in Shazam! movie, all of these scenes focus on Billy’s life and his family and in the 27 scenes there are 11 icons, 13 index, and 4 symbols. each sign had a different meanings._______________________________Keywords: Sign Analysis, Shazam! Abstract

                                                   ABSTRACT     The title of this research is “Jenis dan Makna Simbol dalam Upacara Pernikahan Keluarga Kerajaan Inggris dan Bolango (Sebuah Analisis Kontrastif)”. The study is an attempt to describe and analyze the contrast of symbols in England and Bolango which focuses on Royal wedding ceremony in relations to theirs patterns and classes in both cultures. Royal wedding ceremony is a part of cultures and traditions while symbols are the basis of cultures. Symbols is used as a tool of communication guides to broadening the horizons of cultural insight in humans. This research used descriptive method. The data were taken from Library research and field research, in this case choosing informants and giving the interview. The data were collected, analyze, and described to find out the forms of Symbols in royal wedding ceremony the writer used theory Peirce (2010). After that, the meaningof symbols were analyzed by using Glasser’s theory (1972). The result of this study is Symbols in royal wedding ceremony in England and Bolango each have five settled symbols that has been contrasted using Lado’s (1957) theory.Keywords: Symbols, contrastive analysis, England and Bolango

Abstract

                                                   ABSTRACT     This research entitled “Ekspresi Verbal dan Non-verbal dalam Mengekspresikan Ketakutan dan Kemarahan dalam Film Ready or Not oleh Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillet (Analisis Psikolinguistik)”. Communication can be divided into two classes, verbal communication and non-verbal communication. Verbal communication is when we communicate our message verbally. It requires the use of words, vocabulary and the symbols. Non verbal communication includes facial expression, gestures, tone, body – movement, eye – contact, mannerism, paralinguistics, humour, language of touch etc. Some of types of fear is anxiety, apprehension, nervousness, concern,consternation, wriness, qualm, edginess, dread, fright, terror, phobia, panic. The some of types of anger is fury,outrage, vexation, annoyance, pathological hatred, an violence. The objectives of this research is to Identify, classify, and analyze the types of communication in fear and anger expression in the movie Ready or Not. The researcher used descriptive method in order to find out the verbal and non-verbal expression in fear and anger expression in the movie Ready or Not supported by Gubta (2008) and Goleman’s (1995) theory. The result of this research shows the expression of fear can be detected through shaking hands and other movements such as rubbing the nape of the neck, the tone of voice that rises and falls, the sentence of pauses, eye contact that indicates pleading and panic. Expression of anger can also be identified through body movements such as hitting, pointing with the index finger, choking, the presence of an exclamation mark at the end of a sentence in a high tone of voice, eye contact that shows annoyance or defiant gaze, and emotional behavior.Keywords : Expression, Verbal, Non-verbal, Fear, Anger, Ready or Not

Abstract

Rambing, DEA 3     This research is entitled “Minor Sentences in the Film Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalkers Directed by J.J.Abrams.” The objective of this research are to identify, classify, and anylize the types of minor sentences and to describe the function of the minor sentences. This research uses descriptive method. In analyzing the data, the writer used the theory of Charless Hockett (1958) and Cook (1969: 54-60), and the data were taken from film Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker directed by J.J.Abrams. The result of this research shows that there are four types of minor sentences in the film, such as subjectless minor sentence 39 sentences, vocatif minor sentence 47 sentences, aphorictic minor sentence 5 sentences, and fragment minor sentence which are categorized into three minor sentences that are completive fragment minor sentence 17 sentences, special completive fragment minor sentence 11 sentences, and exclamatory minor sentence 4 sentences. The minor sentence functioning as addition sentence are 3 sentences, response sentence are 28 sentences, and exclamatory sentence which are categorized into three minor sentences that are calls 8 sentences, greetings 4 sentences and interjection 4 sentences.-------------------------------------------------------Keywords: Minor Sentences, Functions, Descriptive Method, Film Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker.
