Abstract

Abstract

The problem of plastic waste generation is increasingly pressing in Indonesia. Thermal technology offers an alternative solution that is more environmentally friendly in managing plastic waste. This literature study aims to compare pyrolysis and gasification technologies in converting plastic waste into energy. The analysis was carried out by reviewing various relevant studies. The results of the study indicate that both technologies have the potential to reduce plastic waste generation and produce value-added products. Pyrolysis is a thermal decomposition process without oxygen that produces oil, gas, and charcoal. Gasification produces syngas that can be used as fuel. This process requires limited oxygen and produces more diverse emissions. The comparison between pyrolysis and gasification shows that the selection of the right technology depends on several factors, such as the type of plastic, the desired product quality, and environmental considerations. Pyrolysis is more suitable for oil production, while gasification is more flexible in producing various types of gas products. Overall, both pyrolysis and gasification have great potential in managing plastic waste. However, further research is needed to optimize the process and reduce environmental impacts. Thus, thermal technology can be a sustainable solution in overcoming the problem of plastic waste in Indonesia.

Abstract

The global climate change phenomenon is prompting initiatives aimed at transitioning energy sources towards more sustainable pathways. Pyrolysis technology offers significant potential in the conversion of biomass and plastic waste into alternative energy sources. The objective of this literature review is to analyze the effect of feedstock type on pyrolysis product characteristics and its potential as an energy source. The results of the literature study indicated that the feedstock from biomass possessed a lower calorific value in comparison to waste composed of polymer compounds. The pyrolysis process yields three primary byproducts: char, bio-oil, and gas. Char can be utilized as a solid fuel, such as briquettes. The processing of bio-oil into liquid fuel, bioethanol, is a viable option. The pyrolysis gas is a versatile material that can be utilized as a fuel for stoves and generators. Pyrolysis, a promising technology, has the potential to convert biomass and plastic waste into alternative energy. The type of feedstock employed is a critical factor in determining the quality and quantity of pyrolysis products. Through process optimization and technological development, pyrolysis has the potential to play a substantial role in reducing reliance on fossil fuels and addressing environmental concerns.

Abstract

The family is a crucial environment for a child's education. The role of parents, especially fathers, is crucial in supporting a child's academic achievement. Fatherlessness can negatively impact a child's psychological and academic development. The article found that fatherlessness has a significant negative impact on adolescents' academic achievement. Children experiencing fatherlessness exhibit poorer cognitive performance, lower test scores, and lower school attendance. Fatherlessness can have a detrimental impact on adolescents' academic achievement. Comprehensive interventions are needed to address the impact of fatherlessness and support children in achieving their academic potential.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the autonomous speaking textbook, which provides detailed guidance for preparing to master English job interviews. This textbook provides detailed guidance on applying autonomous learning in speaking practice within a job interview context, along with rubrics and a weekly journal for autonomous purposes. The Design-Based Research (DBR) methodology was employed in this study, as it is more suitable for developing and evaluating educative innovations in authentic settings. The data were collected from the pre-test and post-test of the students' interviews, as well as survey results, to assess the students’ perceptions and strengthen the measurement of the effectiveness of 27 final-semester D4 English Department students at Politeknik Negeri Padang. The study's results reveal a significant improvement in the students’ speaking competence, particularly in terms of fluency, clarity, confidence, and vocabulary use. Most students felt that practicing mock interviews, receiving peer feedback, and keeping self-assessment journals helped them identify their strengths and weaknesses. These findings highlight the potential of an autonomous speaking textbook to bridge the gap between academic speaking activities and real-world job interview demand. Thus, it offers practical implications for EFL pedagogy and the development of employability skills
