Abstract

Indonesia, with the world's largest Muslim population, faces serious challenges related to radicalism and terrorism. The threat of radicalism in Indonesia has spread to various aspects of life, including educational institutions, both formal and informal. This study aims to analyze the role of teachers in addressing the threat of radicalism at Al-Kautsar LabSchool Middle School in Bandung. The main theories used in this research are the theories of radicalism and the concept of the teacher's role. This research employs a qualitative approach, where data is collected through interviews and literature review. The results of this study reveal nine roles of teachers at Al-Kautsar LabSchool Middle School (SMP Al Kautsar LabsSchool) in facing the threat of radicalism, including being informants, organizers, motivators, directors, initiators, transmitters, facilitators, mediators, and negotiators. This research provides a detailed explanation of these nine roles based on the elaboration of concepts from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Sadirman AM in addressing the threat of radicalism at SMP Al Kautsar LabsSchool. Additionally, the researcher also analyzes the concept of the teacher's role in the policy options from the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) research in 2018 and the strategic plan of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) for 2020-2024 to combat radicalism in the school environment.

Abstract

This study delves into the nuanced landscape of India's defense diplomacy, emphasizing its engagement in the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) as an interesting case study. QUAD serves as a platform for collaborative efforts aimed at fostering regional security and stability. Against the backdrop of geopolitical complexities and evolving global dynamics, India's peacetime defense diplomacy within QUAD unfolds as a multifaceted endeavor. This study aims to understand the diplomatic initiatives and policy frameworks used by India to strengthen its defense capabilities through strategic collaboration with QUAD partners that include joint military exercises, technology transfer, information sharing agreements and economic partnerships. This research uses qualitative research methods with a case study method to analyse India's defence diplomacy within the Quad framework. India's defense diplomacy within QUAD during peacetime has had a positive impact on its defense capabilities. Strategic alignment with broader national security objectives, technological advancements, strengthened regional security and economic resilience demonstrate the effectiveness of the QUAD framework. Nonetheless, challenges such as military asymmetry and geopolitical complexity remain, necessitating sustained efforts to enhance the effectiveness of defense diplomacy within QUAD. Sustained joint efforts and coordination of strategic objectives will be key for India to maximize its benefits and strengthen its position as a key player in the evolving Indo-Pacific security landscape.

Abstract

Legal politics as a defense system against asymmetric war is very important. War today is no longer conventional but has entered the 5th and 6th generations in an asymmetric and hybrid manner. This research uses an explanatory qualitative method. The analysis technique uses the soft system method (SSM) to provide structured, comprehensive and sharp analysis. In general, this research will discuss legal political alignments in Indonesia, urgency, mechanisms, and the model/concept of Counter Asymmetric War. Specifically, this research discusses political law as a defense system against asymmetric war in the 5th and 6th generation war era which is considered less comprehensive and non-specific. Then, this research determines 4 ideal criteria for Political Law as a defense system against asymmetric war in the 5th and 6th generation war era, including: defense budget, regulatory effectiveness, modernization of technology & defense equipment, and national defense education. These ideal criteria are used to analyze legal politics as a defense system against asymmetric war. The results of the analysis show that the criteria for political law as a defense system against asymmetric war do not comprehensively cover these 4 ideal criteria. As a recommendation, these 4 ideal criteria can be a refinement of the political legal criteria as a defense system against asymmetric war. So that legal political policy as a defense system against asymmetric war can realize the stability of Indonesia's national defense and security.

Abstract

Admiral Malahayati, a female figure in the history of the Aceh Sultanate, played a significant role in defending regional sovereignty from colonial threats in the late 16th century. This study explores Malahayati's contribution to naval warfare strategies and community participation, especially war widows, in defense efforts. Using a qualitative approach and theories of maritime war and general warfare, this study analyzes how Malahayati utilized community support and local resources to build an effective military force. The entry of Inong Balee (widows) troops who lost their husbands in the conflict gave a new dimension to the concept of maritime resilience. They not only played a role as logistical support but were also actively involved in the resistance against the invaders. Using the principle of civil society involvement expressed by Reznikova, this study shows that civil society participation, especially the active role of women, is an important element in maintaining a country's sovereignty. The results of this study highlight the importance of integrating the roles of women and society in defense strategies, as well as the significance of Malahayati's history in the context of modern debates about community involvement in national defense, especially among women. These findings are expected to provide new insights into women's contributions to Indonesian military history and open new discussions about national resilience in the face of contemporary threats.

Abstract

The phenomenon of sea level rise, attributable to climate change, poses a significant threat to island nations and coastal regions, including Indonesia. Jakarta, a metropolitan area with a population of 10.684.946, is projected to experience substantial flooding, with estimates indicating that by 2050, one-third of the city may be submerged. In response to this impending threat, the Indonesian government has initiated developments in coastal defense. To identify appropriate measures for Indonesia, it is essential to reference the experiences of other nations, notably the Netherlands. The Netherlands was selected due to its extensive experience in coastal defense, particularly through its Delta program. The success of this initiative commenced in 1953 following a catastrophic flood that resulted in significant loss of life and property. The Delta Works project, which was undertaken as the initial response, engaged all societal levels and aimed to safeguard coastal areas and regions below sea level from future flooding incidents. This research employs qualitative methodologies and literature techniques, presenting findings in a descriptively narrative format through the lens of securitization theory. The objective of this study is to elucidate the Dutch measures in implementing the Delta program, with a specific focus on the Delta Works, and to extract lessons applicable to Indonesia, particularly within the Jakarta region, from the successful development of coastal defense initiatives. The findings indicate that the Netherlands established a national defense framework through the institutions of the Delta program. Key elements necessary for the success of coastal defense projects include community involvement, transparency, and a commitment to long-term engagement in the implementation of these initiatives.

Abstract

Global security studies are increasingly paying attention to the role of women in terrorism. For years, women were usually considered only as victims or supporters of terrorism. However, the role of women in terrorist organizations is much more complex. They do many things, from spreading ideology to carrying out acts of violence. There are those who categorize the role of women in terrorist groups based on their ideology, such as in terrorist groups that demand independence or send countries. In these circumstances, women are more likely to be responsible for operational tasks. The aim of this research is to analyze the role of women in terrorist organizations by placing special emphasis on gender dynamics in relation to ideology and acts of violence. The data collection method is descriptive qualitative, and literature study is used as the data collection method. The results of the analysis show that the role of women in terrorist organizations is not only as ordinary supporters, but also directly involved in violence and the spread of ideology. Often, women are used to carry out acts of terror, both as main agents and as support crew. Women play an important role in maintaining and spreading the ideology of terrorism in an ideological context. They assist in recruiting new members and engage in radicalization and indoctrination processes.
