Abstract

The role of Babinsa in enhancing nationalism and patriotism for the frontier, outermost and underdeveloped communities is an important aspect in building unity and integrity in Indonesia. In their duties, Babinsa have the responsibility to build character, develop local potential, and empower communities to be more independent and developed through mental strengthening and infrastructure development. This research uses qualitative research methods. The results show that Babinsa works closely with local governments, community organisations and the private sector to identify community needs and seek sustainable solutions. This is done in order to improve the quality of life of the community through the provision of entrepreneurship training, local potential development, and assistance to improve welfare. Collaboration between Babinsa, local governments, community organisations and the private sector is the key to success in increasing nationalism and patriotism in frontier, outermost and disadvantaged communities. With synergistic cooperation, awareness of nationalism and love for the country can grow and take root in every individual. In this era of globalisation, the role of the Babinsa is becoming increasingly relevant in shaping the younger generation who have the spirit of nationalism, readiness to face future challenges, and awareness of the importance of national unity

Abstract

The Ten-Dash Line represents China's unilateral territorial claim over the South China Sea. Indonesia is firmly defending its sovereignty while prioritizing peaceful diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in the Natuna Sea. Diplomacy employs military diplomacy or defense diplomacy. The success of a country's defense diplomacy strategy is the collaboration of diplomacy, defense, and development components integrated within an information system. In the complex and sensitive context of the South China Sea conflict, decision-making requires accurate, timely, and up-to-date information to formulate effective policies. The research method used was a qualitative case study approach. Data were obtained through interviews and literature review. The results illustrate that the role of information systems is increasingly crucial in supporting the implementation of effective military diplomacy. Meanwhile, information systems as a support for military diplomacy are not yet optimal because each data center and information center within the Ministry of Defense and within the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) are not fully integrated. Hedging methods are decided based on in-depth analysis obtained from information systems. However, without interoperability, considerable time and resources are spent addressing system differences, thereby reducing the overall effectiveness and efficiency of implementing military diplomacy strategies. To achieve the full potential of information systems, ongoing investment in technology development, personnel training, and increased inter-agency collaboration is required.

Abstract

Radicalism is a significant threat to national and social stability in Indonesia. The Indonesian government, through the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT), has launched the Desa Siaga-Desa Damai Program to empower village communities in maintaining peace and preventing radicalism. The program is based on the great potential that village communities have in creating a conducive environment through education, training and active community participation. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Desa Siaga-Desa Damai Program in preventing the spread of radicalism at the village community level. Using radicalism prevention theory, social constructivism theory, and national security theory, this study analyzes various aspects of the program. The results show that the proactive approach and community empowerment used in the program are effective in reducing the potential for radicalism. Through training, coaching, and the use of information technology to spread counter-radicalism messages, the program succeeded in strengthening social cohesion and increasing community resilience against radical ideologies. In addition, the program is in line with Desa's SDGs goal 16, which is to create a society of peace and justice. In conclusion, the Desa Siaga-Desa Damai Program is an effective model in maintaining national security from the threat of radicalism by empowering village communities and improving their welfare.
