Abstract

The purpose of this study is to integrate Paulo Freire’s ideas and Pancasila into the learning process of digital storytelling, which is rooted in cultural traditions and enhanced by artificial intelligence. It is expected that by combining Freire’s thought with the values embedded in the Pancasila Student Profile, education can serve as a tool to empower future generations, not only to develop intelligence but also to cultivate the courage to defend social justice and diversity. To obtain theoretical data, this research employs a qualitative approach and uses literature review techniques to examine and compare various sources. Data were collected from articles and scholarly journals relevant to the research objectives. The findings indicate that Paulo Freire’s ideas and Pancasila continue to hold significant value and can be applied in modern education, which emphasizes both technology and humanity. Freire’s and Pancasila’s principles of “Education for Liberation” can be sustained within Indonesia’s educational system through the use of technology that supports educational principles, such as individualized learning and collaborative learning. For the advancement of contemporary education, the principles of freedom, responsibility, and collaboration upheld by Paulo Freire and Pancasila provide a valuable foundation.

Abstract

This study examines teachers’ and students’ perceptions of integrating Islamic texts into English reading instruction at an Islamic high school in Tangerang, Indonesia. Although religious texts have the potential to support literacy development and character education, current English learning materials lack such integration. To address this gap, the study explores how educators and learners perceive Islamic texts and identifies the benefits and challenges of incorporating them into English reading classes. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with three English teachers and three students, open-ended questionnaires administered to thirty students, four classroom observations, and document analyses of syllabi and lesson plans. The findings show that both teachers and students respond positively to using Islamic texts: teachers regard them as effective tools for promoting moral values and enhancing reading skills, while students report increased engagement, motivation, and a stronger connection to the content. However, challenges include sourcing level-appropriate materials, managing linguistic complexity, and ensuring inclusivity in diverse classroom contexts. The study recommends careful material selection, collaboration between English and Islamic education teachers, and the use of varied multimodal resources aligned with the CEFR to integrate language instruction and character development effectively.

Abstract

This study examines the philosophical values embedded in the Tunggu Tubang tradition of the Semende Tribe, a customary inheritance system that assigns responsibility to the eldest daughter in sustaining family continuity and preserving ancestral heritage. The research addresses how these values shape social identity and contribute to character formation within the community. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and a comprehensive literature review. The findings reveal that the Tunggu Tubang tradition embodies interconnected values, including religious, leadership, cultural, and moral dimensions, which collectively guide individual conduct and social responsibility. These values function not only as normative principles for individuals entrusted with the Tunggu Tubang role but also as a broader ethical framework that reinforces communal cohesion and intergenerational continuity. The study argues that the philosophical foundation of this tradition holds significant relevance for contemporary character education, particularly in strengthening local wisdom and cultural resilience among younger generations.
