Abstract

Abstract: The rapid growth of international students from tertiary level has reached nearly 3 million since 2007. This condition comes from short-term and long-term mobility. Students coming from developed countries, such as Australia, North America and Western Europe, tend to choose short-term program. Meanwhile, pupils coming from Asian-Pacific countries prefer a lengthy extensive study in pursuing their education. The needs and demands of international students coming to this nation must be in line with the development of the universities or institutions inside. Since 2018, State Polytechnic of Malang has opened international classes for foreigners. This institution provides 9 classes for 9 study programs from 7 various departments each year. Particularly in the Information Technology (IT) department, the foreign students are around 8 to 12% of the whole class population. Unfortunately, they do not receive a matriculation program and an Indonesian language course before getting the lectures. This can lead them to have a misinterpretation or misunderstanding while having communication with their Indonesian friends. At the present, administration staff and Information Technology lecturers also do not get a short education or additional media in communicating using English language. The emergence of the issue causes inadequate services to the foreign students. If this problem continues, there will be dissatisfaction with the college services and a decrease in quality assurance. Due to this condition, the researchers aim to develop a bilingual pocketbook for the IT lecturers and administration staff. Specifically, to make the pocketbook more informative, the researchers also include the usage of Quick Response (QR) code and infographics.

Abstract

This paper was aimed to improve Information Technology students’ performance in the TOEIC International test by using low-cost videos. The test was held by the State Polytechnic of Malang together with the International Test Center (ITC) to compete in this 4.0 industrial era. Due to the pandemic condition, the research was conducted online using the Learning Management System (LMS) and the Zoom application. The subjects in the study were a class consisting of 28 final year students of the Informatics Management Study Program. In this research, we applied Class Action Research (CAR) in 2 cycles, the first cycle was six meetings and the second cycle was two meetings. This study was said to be successful if at least 70% of the students got a score above 450 points. Next, TOEIC pre-test and post-test scores were analyzed using the T-test. In addition, this study also analyzed students' perceptions of the learning model. From the results of the T-test analysis from the pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2, it can be concluded that this learning model could increase TOEIC scores. Based on the results of the questionnaire and observations, it showed that students responded mostly positive feedback and improved students’ performance in TOEIC scores.

Abstract

EFL learners at the tertiary level continue to struggle to understand English, especially when speaking. Certain elements become hurdles when students talk. The variables are referred to as foreign language anxiety. This phenomenon was produced by worry that interfered with students' performance: communication apprehension, fear of poor evaluation, and low self-esteem. This study employed a qualitative method with a case study methodology. The data was gathered via a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview with a non-English department student at the State Polytechnic of Malang. The questionnaire was based on Horwitz's foreign-language classroom anxiety scale. The findings of this study revealed that the most important aspects influencing student performance are avoiding mistakes that lead to poor evaluation. Suggestions for learners, that they would be more readily to speak when they get support by the new technology

Abstract

The rapid development of the gaming industry has prompted the integration of programming education into vocational education curricula, yet manual assessment of student projects remains a significant constraint. This study proposes a C#-based game programming interface with automatic assessment using unit testing. Students receive learning materials from teachers for self-directed study, employing interface development methods based on Test-Driven Development (TDD) principles and prototype research methods. Research results demonstrate the success of automated assessment, enhancing the efficiency of student evaluations and the quality of game programming education. Academic data confirms improved student learning outcomes. Advantages of automated assessment include time efficiency for teachers, consistency, prompt feedback, support for self-directed learning, TDD implementation, and overall enhancement of learning quality. Data analysis of programming modules (MP) and test modules (MT) indicates the effectiveness of the C#-based game programming interface with TDD. Automated assessment eliminates the burden of manual correction, allowing teachers to focus on pedagogical aspects. Consistency is evident in uniform outcomes across all modules. Prompt feedback provides students with instant improvement opportunities, while self-directed learning support and TDD implementation are reflected in the success of test modules. In conclusion, this innovation effectively addresses assessment challenges in game programming education within vocational settings.
