This research aims to understand the development of hadith studies at DDI Mangkoso Islamic boarding school in Barru Regency from time to time as well as the methods used in studying hadith at the Islamic boarding school. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with socio-historical approach and hadith science. The results of this study indicate that the study of hadith at DDI Mangkoso Islamic Boarding School began when the boarding school was founded by Abdurrahman Ambo Dalle in 1938. This can be seen from the teaching of Ambo Dalle’s book entitled “al-Nukhbah al-Mardiyyah fi al-Hadis al-Nabawiyyah.” Under the leadership of Amberi Said, the study of hadith continued to grow with the introduction of an additional learning system by Faried Wadjedy. Since 1985, under the leadership of Faried Wadjedy, the study of hadith in Mangkoso has flourished with the addition of hadith books, competent and experienced teachers. The method of teaching hadith at the DDI Mangkoso Islamic Boarding School includes two methods: mappangolo kitta’ (sorogan) and ngaji tudang (bandongan), and for the method of reading the book using two methods as well, namely the thematic (maudu’i) method and the khatam kitab method and finally in understanding hadith using two methods as well, namely textual and contextual methods.

Abstract

This study examines the understanding of Hadith within Wahdah Islamiyah and its implications for education and da’wah. Using a qualitative field research approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving organizational leaders, preachers, and educational figures. The study analyzes Wahdah Islamiyah’s methodological orientation, epistemological foundations, and influence on religious learning and preaching activities. The findings show that Wahdah Islamiyah adopts a predominantly textual approach rooted in the manhaj al-salaf, emphasizing adherence to the Qur’an, Sunnah, and interpretations of classical scholars. Hadith is understood through a framework prioritizing textual authenticity, scholarly authority, and methodological discipline. This orientation significantly shapes the organization’s educational and da’wah systems by encouraging structured learning, moral development, and doctrinal consistency. The study also reveals that Wahdah Islamiyah seeks to preserve the continuity of Islamic intellectual tradition, strengthen religious literacy, maintain theological stability, and reinforce orthodox Sunni identity within contemporary Muslim society. Furthermore, this approach functions as an instrument for safeguarding religious understanding from subjective interpretation while reinforcing organizational identity and sustaining the transmission of Islamic teachings across educational institutions contemporarily. “This study contributes to the discourse on Hadith pedagogy by demonstrating how Salafi-oriented organizations institutionalize textual Hadith learning within integrated formal and nonformal educational systems.”

Abstract

This study is motivated by the complexity of familial relationships in pre-Islamic Arab society and their ongoing transformation in the contemporary era. Interactions between non-mahram family members often lead to potential fitnah and conflict, necessitating a critical examination of the hadith, "The brother-in-law is a source of danger." This hadith carries profound meanings within the social and moral framework of Islam, thus requiring further analysis. This study investigates the authenticity of the hadith's sanad and matan using a qualitative literature review approach. The primary sources analyzed include Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Tirmidhi, Sunan al-Darimi, and Musnad Ahmad, alongside theoretical frameworks related to sanad and matan criticism in hadith studies. The analysis reveals that this hadith is not merely a literal prohibition but rather a warning against the dangers of uncontrolled interactions within the family environment. Unrestricted interactions can lead to moral deviations, fitnah, and even the potential disintegration of the Islamic social order. These findings affirm that ethical boundaries in social interactions remain relevant across different eras, both in traditional societies and in the digital age, where communication is increasingly open and complex. The implications of this study underscore the importance of integrating Sharia values into social and educational policies to enhance ethical awareness and create a harmonious environment adaptable to contemporary challenges. Furthermore, this study contributes to the development of contemporary Islamic thought and encourages the reformulation of ethical policies in both family and professional settings.

Abstract

Abstract

In the 19 century, the Islamic world faced a great upheaval due to the expansion of Western colonialism and the epistemological crisis that struck its intellectual tradition. This condition gave rise to an urgent need for the reconstruction of Islamic thought that was able to respond to the challenges of modernity while at the same time maintaining Islamic identity. This article discusses the dynamics of Islamic reform in Egypt with its main focus on the epistemological synthesis formed from the teacher-student relationship between al-Afghani and Abduh, which aims to understand their ideas as a reference in creating Islamic thought in all aspects. The results of the research show that al-Afghani emphasized pan-Islamism and political resistance against Western hegemony, while Abduh focused on institutional reform, the rationalization of theology, and the modernization of Islamic education, particularly through Al-Azhar. Their collaboration through the publication of the journal Al-Urwah al-Wuthqa reflected the spirit of transnational reform that was able to reach various regions of the Islamic world. This article also highlights their contribution in shaping a reformist Islamic epistemology that integrates reason and revelation contextually. Their intellectual legacy not only dismantled the narrative of Islamic intellectual stagnation constructed by Orientalists, but also provided the foundation for the emergence of reform movements in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Thus, their ideas remain relevant in formulating Islam as a value system that is rational, ethical, and solution-oriented toward the modern problems of the Muslim community.
