Abstract

This paper explores the meaning of the idea of a healthy family to members of GMIM Damai Belang Atep, as well as how that idea is played out in biblical view, and the things that promote or inhibit it in a Minahasan context. In response to the normative discourses of Christian families in Indonesian theology, this study follows an exploratory qualitative research design with a phenomenological orientation. Semi-structured interviews with a purposely chosen sample of families and special office-bearers were used to collect data, which were analyzed with the help of thematic analysis and contextual theological reflection. The results indicate that congregants identify proper families in terms of relationships and Christ-centered ways. Mutual love and respect, common spiritual disciplines, equal emphasis on spiritual, emotional, and practical needs, and the deliberate impartation of biblical values to children are all related to family health. These beliefs are reflected in everyday activities, family worship, shared prayer, eating together, helping others, and spiritually oriented ways of resolving conflicts, which emphasize calm speaking, controlling oneself, forgiving, and praying. Concurrently, families are experiencing problems such as financial strain, family time, screen addiction, and value system clashes in the external world. The cultural values of Minahasan, most notably mapalus, kinship, and solidarity, are revealed as social capital that can be used to support biblical ideals, although some of the characteristics should be discerned. This paper suggests a contextual model of a healthy family and the necessity of the church to supplement doctrinal teaching with pastoral accompaniment based on families.

Abstract

This study examines how the Christian book, the Buku Renungan Harian Keluarga (RHK), influenced the formation of faith among the members of GMIM Baitel Eris in the Tandengan District. Set in the context of the overall discussion on Protestant spiritual formation and family worship, the study deals with the current application of RHK in home worship, its perception by congregants, and its contribution to spiritual development and family life. Data were collected using a qualitative case study design, where semi-structured interviews with adult congregants, parents, youth, Sunday school teachers, column leaders, and office-bearers of the church were used, supplemented by participatory observations during family and sectoral worship venues and document analysis of RHK editions and church records. Thematic data analysis was conducted in accordance with the steps of data analysis presented by Braun and Clarke. The results indicate that RHK is more strongly integrated into GMIM Baitel Eris' daily piety, and thus, it is a domestic liturgical script that reflects congregational worship. The devotional reflection part is the experience that is found to be the most valuable, as it connects Scripture and everyday life. According to the respondents, they experienced improved spiritual knowledge, increased intimacy with God, self-character development, and improved family relations. The first barrier to regular use was busyness, and the digital formats and proposed interactive features are hints of what needs to be changed in the future. The paper concludes that Christian books continue to play a crucial role in the formation of faith in local GMIM settings and makes pastoral suggestions to support and revitalise the practices of family-oriented devotion in the face of modern-day social and technological transformation.

Abstract

Abstract

This article examines the mission of the church within the context of religious and cultural pluralism in Indonesia by emphasizing interfaith dialogue as a relevant and contextual form of Christian witness. In a plural society vulnerable to identity-based conflicts and intolerance, the church is called to engage in mission not through exclusive or confrontational approaches, but through dialogical practices that respect human dignity and religious diversity. Grounded in the paradigm of Missio Dei, this study affirms that mission is the church’s participation in God’s ongoing work of love, justice, and reconciliation in the world. Through theological and biblical reflection, interfaith dialogue is understood not as syncretism or theological compromise, but as a faithful and incarnational expression of gospel witness. The article demonstrates that interfaith dialogue has strong biblical foundations and offers significant implications for contemporary churches, particularly in fostering interreligious relationships, social engagement, and transformative presence within Indonesia’s plural society.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to conduct an in-depth analysis of the encounter between Christianity and the old Minahasa religion. The problems related to the revival and re-existence of the old Minahasa beliefs affect the congregation's faith in Minahasa today. The method to solve this problem is qualitative research, which involves collecting scientifically tested literature, such as books and journals, without neglecting field data. Through this discussion, the author offers a new perspective that the old Minahasa religion needs to be studied critically and constructively to highlight its local wisdom to enrich theological efforts in the Evangelical Christian Church in Minahasa. A conclusion that confirms that the goal has been achieved and the problem has been answered. This study concludes that the manguni bird symbolizes the fusion of Christianity and Minahasa old traditions that illustrate the identity of salvation and the church's role as the guardian of truth. Progressivity in Minahasa is not only caused by GMIM or the influence of Protestantism but also by actual theological teachings that affect life attitudes based on the foundation of the Bible and GMIM confession of faith; the Manguni bird as a symbol of GMIM represents religious values,  historical, sociological, and anthropological as well as the role of the church in building contextual theology, there is a hereditary call to preserve nature and build Minahasa culture based on biblical teachings with the duty to fellowship and serve amid the diversity of society.

Abstract

This study analyzes the narrative of the healing of a man born blind in John 9:1–41, focusing on its implications for the church’s mission in developing an inclusive paradigm toward persons with disabilities. In many religious and social traditions, disability has often been associated with sin or a curse, which has led to stigma and exclusion. In contrast, the Johannine narrative presents Jesus rejecting such assumptions, restoring the man’s sight, and reinstating his dignity as a member of the community. Using a qualitative hermeneutical and narrative-critical approach, supported by literature from biblical commentaries, journals, and books, this paper argues that Jesus’ action was not merely a miraculous healing but also a theological statement that dismantles social stigma, affirms the value of every individual before God, and models a holistic church mission. The study concludes that the contemporary church must move beyond mere charitable aid toward unconditional acceptance, restoration of dignity, and empowerment of persons with disabilities, thereby creating an inclusive and transformative faith community

Abstract

Patchouli oil distillation activities in Lansot Village, Tomohon City, have generated serious ecological problems, including water pollution caused by the disposal of distillation waste near residential wells, air pollution from fuel combustion, and machine noise that disturbs public health and comfort. These conditions reflect low ecological awareness and the absence of adequate waste-management regulations and technology. This study aims to develop an ecotheological perspective for patchouli farmers in sustainable waste management based on the concepts of relational ontology and theocentric stewardship by Jorgenson and Padgett. Using a qualitative case-study approach, data were collected through field observation and in-depth interviews with farmers, affected residents, and local government. The findings show that waste problems are not merely technical but rooted in limited ecological education and social tensions reinforced by close kinship ties, which discourage public protest. The study concludes that integrating Christian faith values through ecological discipleship and collaboration between church, government, and farming communities can enable just, participatory, and sustainable waste management.
