Abstract

Singing as a teaching method in early childhood education plays a crucial role in stimulating children’s cognitive development through enjoyable, concrete, and repetitive learning activities. This study aims to describe the role of singing as a teaching method in developing the cognitive abilities of young children at Aisyiyah Al Amin Kindergarten in Surakarta. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects consisted of one classroom teacher and 12 children aged 4–5 years in Group A, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis. Data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the singing method plays a role in developing three cognitive aspects based on the STPPA indicators, namely symbolic thinking, logical thinking, and learning and problem-solving. After ten learning sessions, no child was categorized as “Not Yet Developed.” Songs containing numbers, letters, colors, shapes, and simple cause-and-effect concepts help children remember, group, sequence, and understand learning material more effectively. Thus, the singing method can be used as an effective pedagogical strategy to support the cognitive development of young children.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Early Childhood Education (ECE) is an educational level that plays an important role in optimizing children’s development during the golden age period. At this stage, children require stimulation that focuses not only on cognitive aspects but also on social and emotional development through appropriate guidance. One effort that can be implemented is integrating counseling roles into play activities. This study aims to describe the implementation of counseling roles in early childhood play activities at POS PAUD Suryo Suminar Surakarta and identify factors influencing its implementation. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The research subjects were selected through purposive sampling involving teachers, the school principal, and parents. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with data validity ensured through triangulation. The results showed that counseling roles were integrated into play activities through child assistance, motivation, positive reinforcement, conflict resolution, and social-emotional development. The implementation was supported by teacher competence, school support, parental collaboration, and a conducive learning environment, while the main obstacles included diverse child characteristics, limited time, and the number of children requiring assistance. This study concludes that integrating counseling roles into play activities is an effective strategy to support children’s social-emotional development in early childhood education.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low reading ability of children aged 5-6 years at TK Harapan Umat, indicated by a classical learning approach and the demands of parents versus the non-drilling policy of Kurikulum Merdeka. This study aims to develop, test the feasibility, and evaluate the effectiveness of the Loose Parts-Based Integrative Literacy Learning Model (LILP) in improving early childhood reading skills. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects were 35 children aged 5-6 years, selected using a saturated sampling technique. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, documentation, and validation questionnaires. The results indicated that the LILP Model was categorized as highly feasible, with an average validation score of 87.6% from material experts, media experts, and early childhood practitioners. Furthermore, the implementation of the LILP model proved effective in significantly improving children's reading skills, increasing from an average score of 44.12% (Starting to Develop category) in the pre-implementation phase to 82.8% (Developing Very Well category) in the post-implementation phase. It can be concluded that the LILP model is feasible and effective to be applied as an alternative learning model to enhance early childhood literacy.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of instilling the character of patriotism from an early age amidst the challenges of globalization, which may reduce children's sense of nationalism. One effort that can be made is through the use of national songs as learning media that are suitable for the characteristics of early childhood. This study aims to describe the process of instilling the character of patriotism through national songs and the media used in learning activities in Class B of TK Kemala Bhayangkari 55 Surakarta. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study strategy. The research subjects consisted of classroom teachers and the principal. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation, while data validity was ensured through technique and source triangulation. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that the cultivation of patriotic character was carried out through habituation activities by routinely singing national songs during the opening activities of learning sessions. The learning process was implemented through imitation methods, repetition, and explanation of song meanings using simple language related to children’s daily lives. The media used included digital television, speakers, song videos, and supporting pictures, which proved effective in increasing children’s interest and understanding. However, the activities still tended to focus on memorization aspects, so the interpretation and understanding of the songs need to be strengthened further. Evaluation was conducted through behavioral observation and simple question-and-answer activities to assess children’s understanding and attitudes. Thus, national songs can serve as an effective medium for instilling the character of patriotism in early childhood when accompanied by habituation, appropriate meaning-making, and the use of engaging and interactive learning media. Keywords: character planting, early childhood, religious and moral values, habituation, kindergarten
