Abstract

This present study aims to describe a school activity called ‘homestay’ that is carried out at SDIT Cahaya Bangsa Semarang, Central Java to shape the students’ character. This activity is originally inspired by “Jika Aku Menjadi”, a reality show program, broadcasted by an Indonesian private television station. Homestay manages the students to stay at a landlord house for several days and do all activities there such as farming, gardening, selling goods, and other domestic business for training them to be an independent individual. Homestay can be categorized as a character education performing self-habituation and conditioning. They represent extracurricular activities to be integrated into the school curriculum. The self-habituation and conditioning attempt to build the students’ character, including their personality, which is environmentally shaped through their life experiences during the Homestay program. In this school activity, the students are expected to stay for three days and experience what the landlord does. In 24-hour domestic activities, they are supposed to demonstrate togetherness and help each other. As a result, the students may adapt with their new condition that is completely different from what they experience in reality.

Abstract

This qualitative library research explores the role of Islamic civilization in Indonesia during the reformation era. It delves into Indonesia's historical narrative, emphasizing nationalism post-independence. Islam's roots trace back to the 7th century, flourishing in the 13th century. Despite rapid growth since independence, Islam hasn't been declared the nation's official ideology, favoring Pancasila for its pluralistic ethos. Post-reform, Islam's influence is significant, yet diverse Islamic movements emerged, some advocating for Islamic law. These dynamics create sensitivity around Islam, challenging its development amidst issues like representation, blasphemy, and the intersection of religion and politics. Consolidation and alignment of Islamic interests are essential for navigating this complex landscape.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Towards Indonesia's independence, the Islamic leaders at that time were not concerned with the establishment of a state based on Islam, but the most important thing was Indonesian independence. This was because the thoughts of the Islamic leaders at that time were based on the population of the Indonesian people who were mostly Muslim, according to which the majority Muslim population would certainly form an Indonesian state based on Islam and a Muslim government. In other words the thinking at that time was that after independence Indonesia would automatically become a country based on Islam.' Another thing that has become an obstacle in the establishment of an Islamic state is that in the historical arena of Muslims, the ideal to establish an Indonesian state based on Islam is not an easy thing to realize. This is due not only to the challenges emanating from the Islamic parties themselves, but also the emergence of secular national parties which have become an obstacle.

Abstract

Background: Advances in digital technology have changed the way millennial parents instill religious education in their children. YouTube is the main platform for transmitting religious values. However, the existence of extremist and non-moderate content raises concerns about children's exposure to misunderstood, intolerant, and age-inappropriate religious beliefs. Objective: This study analyzes the role of YouTube as a medium of moderate religious education in the digital parenting practices of millennial couples in Landungsari, Pekalongan City, Indonesia. Methods: The research used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and content documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman models. Results: Millennial parents actively use YouTube for moderate religious education, prioritizing content such as Nussa & Rara animations and the KABI channel, accompanied by live mentoring and limiting watch time to 30-45 minutes per session. However, YouTube's unpredictable algorithm is a major obstacle in maintaining the consistency of moderate content. Conclusion: YouTube has the potential to become a moderate religious education medium if supported by planned digital parenting. The study provides an empirical foundation for strengthening Muslim families' digital media literacy and fostering a moderate and child-friendly religious content ecosystem.
