Abstract

ABSTRACTObesity is considered as a risk factor for insulin resistance and hyperglycemia. Strategies for glycemic control are necessary in order to prevent obese individuals from developing diabetes mellitus. Over the last few years, research regarding natural products obtained from seaweed has increased since it contains various bioactive compounds; such as, polysaccharides, polyphenols, carotenoids, fucoxanthin and others. These compounds appear to have various biological effects which are beneficial to health; such as, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anti-diabetic activities. In addition, the low energy content of seaweed and various bioactive compounds can prevent diabetes through various mechanisms. This narrative review provides summary of the various bioactive compounds contained in seaweed and provides a summary regarding the mechanisms of seaweed bioactive compounds on blood glucose responses in obese individuals.Keywords: Seaweed; bioactive compounds; blood glucose; obesity                                                                           ABSTRAKObesitas merupakan faktor risiko terjadinya resistensi insulin dan hiperglikemia. Kontrol glikemik sangat penting untuk menjaga individu obesitas agar tidak sampai pada kondisi diabetes mellitus, sehingga diperlukan strategi untuk mengontrol glikemik. Selama beberapa tahun terakhir, penelitian terkait produk alami yang diperoleh dari rumput laut semakin meningkat karena mengandung berbagai senyawa bioaktif seperti polisakarida, polifenol, karotenoid, fukosantin dan lainnya. Senyawa tersebut tampaknya memiliki berbagai efek biologis yang bermanfaat bagi kesehatan seperti aktivitas antioksidan, antiinflamasi, antimikroba, dan antidiabetes. Selain itu, kandungan energi yang rendah pada rumput laut dan berbagai senyawa bioaktif dapat mencegah diabetes melalui berbagai mekanisme. Tinjauan naratif ini merangkum berbagai kandungan senyawa bioaktif rumput laut dan memberikan ringkasan terkait mekanisme senyawa biaktif rumput laut terhadap respon glukosa darah pada individu obesitas.Kata Kunci: Rumput laut; senyawa bioaktif; glukosa darah; obesitas

Abstract

Abstrak: Anemia merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan yang sering ditemukan pada remaja putri khususnya di pondok pesantren dikarenakan kurangnya asupan zat besi dan pengetahuan gizi. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan gizi remaja putri di Pondok Pesantren Nurul Islam Sekarbela sebagai upaya pencegahan anemia. Edukasi diberikan kepada 8 responden usia 15–17 tahun melalui pretest, penyampaian materi tentang anemia, Piringku, dan Piramida Makanan menggunakan leaflet, food flashcard, dan food model, serta posttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan jumlah jawaban benar pada 13 dari 20 soal yang menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman. Analisis menggunakan uji t berpasangan dengan taraf kepercayaan 95%. Kendala teknis diatasi melalui diskusi kelompok kecil. Kegiatan ini membuktikan bahwa pendekatan edukasi dengan media interaktif efektif dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kesadaran remaja akan pentingnya gizi seimbang untuk mencegah anemia.

Abstract

Penyakit Kardiovaskular (PKV) merupakan penyebab utama kematian global yang diperkirakan akan terus meningkat hingga tahun 2050. Faktor risiko utama PKV meliputi hipertensi, dislipidemia, hiperkolesterolemia, dan hiperglikemia. Salah satu strategi pencegahan yang mendapat perhatian adalah konsumsi produk olahan susu fermentasi seperti yoghurt, kefir, dan keju yang mengandung probiotik dan senyawa bioaktif hasil fermentasi. Probiotik seperti Lactobacillus dan Bifidobacterium berperan dalam menurunkan kadar kolesterol total, LDL, serta meningkatkan HDL melalui berbagai mekanisme termasuk penghambatan enzim HMG-CoA reduktase dan peningkatan ekskresi asam empedu. Selain itu, produk susu fermentasi diketahui berkontribusi dalam menurunkan tekanan darah, meningkatkan kesehatan usus, serta mengurangi peradangan sistemik yang berperan dalam patogenesis aterosklerosis. Studi epidemiologis menunjukkan hubungan signifikan antara konsumsi tinggi produk susu fermentasi dengan penurunan risiko PKV, hipertensi, dan stroke. Metode penyusunan yang digunakan adalah kajian literatur metode PRISMA dengan pendekatan deskriptif menggunakan pustaka sekunder melalui empat langkah yaitu identification, screening, eligibility, dan included sehingga didapatkan 14 artikel. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa produk olahan susu fermentasi mengandung bakteri probiotik dan senyawa bioaktif yang berperan dalam menurunkan LDL, meningkatkan HDL, sehingga mampu menurunkan risiko PKV. Penelitian ini mengimplikasikan bahwa mengkonsumsi produk olahan susu fermentasi (yoghurt, keju, susu fermentasi) dalam jumlah tinggi dapat menurunkan risiko PKV sebesar 19% dibandingkan dengan konsumsi rendah.

Abstract

Background: Obesity is strongly linked to elevate leptin levels and oxidative stress, both of which contribute to the development of various metabolic disorders. Leptin, a hormone that regulates metabolism and appetite, becomes less effective in obese individuals due to leptin resistance, thereby exacerbating metabolic dysfunction.Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effect of red dragon fruit (hylocereus polyrhizus) juice on leptin levels in Sparague Dawley rats using an overweight model.Method: This experimental study used a pre-post test control group design and involved six groups of rats (n=6 per group), including a normal group, a negative control group, a positive control group (orlistat), and three treatment groups receiving different doses of red dragon fruit juice (3.5 g, 7 g, and 10.5 g per 200 g body weight). The intervention was carried out for 14 days following a 14- day induction of obesity using a high-fat and high-carbohydrate diet. Leptin levels were measured before and after the intervention.  Results: The results showed that administration of red dragon fruit juice significantly reduced leptin levels (p<0,001) in all treatment groups. The greatest reduction was observed in the group receiving the 10.5 g dose, with an average decrease of 75.03%, which was nearly equivalent to the orlistat group that reduced leptin levels by 79.93%.Conclusion: Red dragon fruit juice has the potential to serve as a non-pharmacological agent in reducing leptin levels and oxidative stress under obesity conditions, with an effectiveness approaching that of orlistat.

Abstract

Adolescents are an age group vulnerable to various health problems, both physical and mental, along with the biological and psychosocial changes that occur during their developmental phase. Nutritional status and stress levels are two important aspects that play a role in determining adolescent well-being, however existing evidence regarding the relationship between these two variables remains inconsistent. This community service activity aims to describe the nutritional status and stress levels of adolescents and analyze the relationship between nutritional status and stress levels in adolescents in the school environment. The activity was carried out at SMKN 2 Lembar involving 21 adolescents aged 15–17 years using an observational analytical approach with a cross-sectional design. Data collection was carried out by filling out questionnaires on respondent characteristics and stress levels, as well as anthropometric measurements to determine nutritional status. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Fisher Exact test as an alternative. The results showed that most respondents were 16 years old (42.8%), had good nutritional status (90.5%), and experienced moderate stress (90.5%). The results of the bivariate analysis showed no significant relationship between nutritional status and stress levels in adolescents (p = 0.890). The conclusions of this activity indicate that stress levels in adolescents are not directly related to nutritional status but are likely more influenced by psychosocial factors. Therefore, community service programs in schools need to be implemented holistically, integrating nutrition education and mental health promotion to improve adolescent well-being.
