Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

In the Al-Quran this discussion of personality is also explained. However, it does not use standard terms as in psychology. One of the commentators who interpreted these verses was Buya Hamka in the Al-Azhar commentary. Buya Hamka, from his diverse essays and more of his works which have a tasawuf style, reviews verses about personality from the perspective of Hamka's interpretation, so it is very relevant considering that personality is synonymous with tasawuf. This research belongs to qualitative research with a library research approach. The data source uses the Al-Azhar interpretation book as the main reference in understanding the verses being interpreted. And secondary sources in the form of articles, journals, theses, and other scientific works. The results of his research are Buya Hamka's interpretation of positive and negative personalities in the Qur'an. A positive personality emerges and is formed by two main things, the first is to purify the soul and the second is to calm the soul. Because a positive personality will emerge from these two things. Buya Hamka's interpretation of negative personality in the Qur'an. Negative personalities arise and are formed by the main factor, namely humans who always follow their passions. Those who follow these passions will later become regretful people.

Abstract

This article explores the ideological stance of the Inkar Sunnah movement, which rejects the prophetic traditions (Sunnah) as a source of Islamic law, focusing on its development in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Historically, this movement can be traced back to political and sectarian conflicts in early Islamic history, such as those involving the Khawarij, Shia, and Mu'tazilah sects. Over time, skepticism towards hadith, fueled by fabricated traditions and modern Orientalist critiques, gained traction. Prominent figures like Dalimi Lubis and Nazwar Syamsu have continued to propagate Inkar Sunnah beliefs in modern Indonesia, advocating that the Qur’an alone suffices for Islamic jurisprudence. This research adopts a qualitative library approach, analyzing primary texts by these figures and secondary sources on hadith scholarship. The study critically examines their arguments and the socio-political context that allowed their ideas to proliferate, as well as strategies to counter this ideological challenge within Indonesian Islamic discourse. The findings reveal a persistent tension between traditional Sunni orthodoxy and reformist interpretations that seek to minimize or outright reject the role of the Sunnah, posing significant implications for Islamic legal and theological frameworks.

Abstract

The collection of speeches (CoS) written by Sheikh Abdul Lathif Syakur (SALS), a scholar who experienced both the colonial and old-order eras, serves as a thematic compilation of hadith reflecting the mid-20th century Minangkabau writing tradition. Through this collection, SALS demonstrated his expertise as a hadith scholar by analyzing the context of his era and interpreting social realities based on hadiths pertinent to society. This article aims to delve into the socio-religious vision that SALS constructs through the themes articulated in his speeches. Using a descriptive-historical method and thematic analysis, this article reveals that SALS founded his socio-religious vision on four main pillars: renewal, community integrity, moderation, and the roles of women in public life. SALS's ability to adapt hadith to his time, combined with his inclusive and human-centered approach, portrays him as a progressive scholar, challenging the rigid stereotype of hadith scholars.
