The article aims to examine the style of use and validity of hadith by Abdullah Ahmad in his book Pemboeka Pintoe Soerga. This research uses a qualitative method, by describing the data obtained descriptively from the book Pemboeka Pintoe Soerga, namely the traditions that Ahmad raises in his book. To test the validity of the traditions, the author used the method of takhrij hadith by tracing them in the hadith master books and books of takhrij hadith. This research proves that Abdullah Ahmad is not careful in using hadith. This is evidenced by the fact that the traditions presented by Ahmad are not equipped with the sanad and the source of the hadith narration, and there are also errors in the wording of the traditions he contains. In terms of quality, the traditions used by Ahmad in his book are sahih, dhaif and also the redactions that are said by Ahmad to be traditions, but the redactions are not traditions but the words of Ali ibn Abi Talib which are also considered by the Shiites as traditions.

The mass media contained actual issues of the day and also contained hadith. Then in the context of Minangkabau in the 20th century, the use of hadith was used as a means of legitimizing the author to strengthen his ideas. Among the mass media in print that was published was Al-Itqan Magazine. This article aims to determine the quality of the hadith used in the magazine. The author used a qualitative method focusing on the hadith documents contained in Al-Itqan magazine published on March 19, 1923 which contained 4 traditions. The hadith were interpreted using the rules of hadith validity which include the continuity of the sanad, fairness, perfecthabitat, absence of shaz and illat. The study found that the hadith contained in the magazine contained only the matan. After locating them in the books of hadith, 19 hadith from various sanads and narrators were found. Then from these 19 traditions, there are three traditions that are directly assessed by hadith scholars about the quality of the hadith, namely the hadith line narrated by Muhammad al-Dinuriy al-Qadhi al-Makiy that the hadith has an isnad that is Dhaif Jiddan, then in the narration of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal that the hadith is sahih, and finally in the narration of Al-Hakim Al-Naisaburi that the hadith is sahih.

The issue of Islamic reform in Minangkabau during the twentieth century was closely linked to the development of literacy and the culture of writing. The expansion of literacy during this period served as a crucial reference point for the public’s engagement with Islam, particularly through periodicals. This article seeks to analyze the use of hadiths in Alchoethbah magazine, which was published in Minangkabau in the early twentieth century. The hadiths examined address themes such as the prohibition of prioritizing reason over religious law thereby deviating from Islamic teachings and the significance of unity. These themes were employed by Hs. Moenaaf as forms of legal and moral legitimation in his writings. Employing a qualitative research methodology, this study analyzes various library sources with a focus on the hadiths cited in Alchoethbah magazine. The collected data were critically examined through a narrative analysis approach. The findings indicate that two specific hadiths were utilized and authored by Hs. Moenaaf in Alchoethbah to advance ideas of Islamic reform within his sermon-like narratives. Broadly, these hadiths were contextually pertinent to the reformist movement of the time for two primary reasons. First, Hs. Moenaaf, as both a scholar and writer, was part of the Kaum Mudo intellectual movement, which emphasized adherence to Sharia over reason and custom. Second, Alchoethbah functioned as a medium to facilitate readers’ understanding of the teachings of Islamic reformist scholars, particularly the injunctions against prioritizing reason over the Sharia of the Prophet Muhammad and against division or sectarian fanaticism within the Muslim community.

Every command and prohibition conveyed by Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) fundamentally contains implicit meanings for the well-being of his community. Even seemingly trivial matters, such as yawning, have significance. In hadiths, it is mentioned that when someone yawns, they should observe certain etiquettes to prevent jaw dislocation. This article aims to understand the form of integration between Hadith and Science in relevant contexts, etiquettes of yawning as described in hadiths, and ways to prevent or address jaw dislocation. The research method used is content analysis, connecting the content of hadiths with health sciences. A modernist approach is employed, incorporating scientific studies, particularly in health sciences, to provide a broader and deeper understanding of the hadiths. The results of this research indicate that Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) provided examples of etiquette during yawning in the hadiths. Among these etiquettes are restraining the mouth as much as possible, covering the mouth, and avoiding making noise while yawning. The correlation between the hadiths and jaw dislocation is that these etiquettes serve to anticipate jaw-related illnesses. Failure to observe these etiquettes during yawning may lead to opening the mouth too wide, potentially causing jaw dislocation. Opening the mouth excessively can cause the jaw joints to shift from their original positions, hindering the proper functioning of the jaw joints. If not promptly addressed, jaw dislocation may require surgery or the replacement of the jaw with a new one or a prosthetic jaw.

This study examines Al-Akhlāq Lilbanāt by Sheikh ‘Umar bin Ahmad Baraja’, a key reference in the moral education curriculum of many Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia. The main problem identified is the use of hadiths presented only in matan form without clear references to primary hadith sources, raising questions about their authenticity and methodological accuracy. The research aims to evaluate the validity of these hadiths through analysis of citation, writing accuracy, and consistency of meaning compared to reputable hadith compilations. Using a comparative thematic analysis, the study finds that Sheikh ‘Umar prioritizes pedagogical and moral dimensions over strict methodological precision in transmission. Although references are often missing, the meanings of the hadiths remain consistent with authoritative sources. The findings suggest that the book’s educational impact is strengthened by its contextual relevance, yet it would benefit from annotated editions that include verified hadith sources to enhance scholarly reliability.

Studies on Eid al-Fitr traditions have predominantly examined takbiran as a public celebration, religious procession, or seasonal expression of communal joy. Little attention has been paid to its role as a mechanism for sustaining customary kinship structures and translating Prophetic traditions into everyday social institutions. This study investigates the inter-tribal takbiran tradition in Domo Village, Kampar, Riau, and explores how it functions as a living-hadith practice that constructs social solidarity through the integration of adat (customary law) and Islamic teachings. Guided by three research questions concerning community meanings, normative hadith references, and the social functions of the ritual, the study employs a qualitative ethnographic design based on participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentary analysis. The data were analysed using thematic analysis within the framework of living hadith and interpreted through Durkheim's theory of social solidarity. The findings demonstrate that the ritual consists of three interconnected stages—takobiei ka umah-umah dunsanak suku (house-to-house visitation among clan members), rapek suku (tribal deliberation), and communal food sharing—which transform the prophetic values of brotherhood, reconciliation, charity, and mutual responsibility into enduring social practices. Beyond its religious significance, the tradition strengthens kinship networks, facilitates conflict resolution, reinforces customary norms, preserves genealogical memory, and promotes collective governance within the community. This study contributes to the living-hadith literature by proposing the concept of adat-sharia solidarity, a vernacular model demonstrating how hadith values are institutionalised through indigenous customary structures rather than merely expressed as individual religious observance. The findings further broaden discussions on the interaction between Islam, customary institutions, and social cohesion in contemporary Muslim societies.
