Abstract

The increased use of synthetic gloves made from plastics such as nitrile and vinyl resulted in serious environmental problems due to plastic waste that was difficult to decompose. This study aimed to utilize banana peel waste for producing antibacterial organic gloves with the addition of latex. The manufacturing method involved mixing latex with ionol as an antioxidant, sulfur for vulcanization, and banana peel powder to add antibacterial properties. Tensile strength testing was conducted by varying the proportion of banana peel and chemical treatment using NaOH and NH4OH solutions. The results showed that increasing the proportion of banana peel led to a decrease in tensile strength and elongation of the material, from 22.5 MPa and 550% at a 10% banana peel ratio to 16.0 MPa and 480% at a 40% ratio. Treatment with NaOH resulted in a greater reduction than NH4OH. This study demonstrated that banana peels had potential as an environmentally friendly additive for the manufacture of antibacterial organic gloves. To improve its effectiveness, it was recommended that future research focus on optimizing the proportion of ingredients, developing the production process, and evaluating costs to achieve an optimal balance between quality, durability, and production efficiency

Abstract

Lack of a variety of learning media was one of the issues contributing to poor student learning results in chemistry. One of the subjects that students found challenging was redox material since it involves complicated and abstract concepts that call for a thorough knowledge in order to grasp them. The goal of this study was to create educational materials on redox reactions with the help of Lectora Inspire. Up to 30 people participated in this study at SMA Negeri 1 Batang Kuis in class X, IPA 5. Research and development (R&D) was the approach employed, and the ADDIE paradigm, which has five parts (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation), was used. At the analysis stage, needs and idea analysis were completed. The collection of analytical data was carried out using interview sheet and questionnaire. Furthermore, the learning media helped by lectora inspire was conceived and developed. The developed media was validated by media expert validators who were also material expert validators as many as 3 Unimed chemistry lecturers by providing questionnaires based on criteria following the National Education Standards Agency (BNSP), namely the feasibility of content, language, presentation, and graphics. In addition, to measure student learning outcomes utilizing pre-test and post-test questions. The results of the research at the analysis stage achieved in the chemistry learning process in students still tend to find it difficult to understand concepts and calculations in chemistry learning and students consider chemistry a boring topic. In addition, the findings of the material expert assessment were achieved with an average percentage of 92% with a very feasible category, media expert evaluation with an average percentage of 90% with a very feasible category. While the learning results were acquired from the average of N-gain value, which was 0.7 with the medium category, where the averages of pre test and post test were determined to be 35.33 and 80.33, respectively. Therefore, those had met the minimal completeness condition ≥75. Thus, the learning media helped by lectora inspire on redox reaction content has met the BSNP standard criteria and was suitable for use as a learning media and students learning outcomes might be improved.

Abstract

This study was aimed at assessing the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PjBL)-based analytical chemistry flipbooks in improving students' critical thinking skills and scientific literacy, and linking the results to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-4), namely quality education. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, involving two groups: an experimental group (n = 250) using PjBL-based flipbooks, and a control group (n = 250) using conventional textbooks. The projects in PjBL were designed to challenge students to apply critical thinking skills in solving real problems in analytical chemistry. Scientific literacy was measured based on students' ability to understand, evaluate, and apply chemical concepts in the context of the project. Critical thinking skills and scientific literacy tests were used to measure learning outcomes before and after the intervention. The instrument in this study was a test of critical thinking skills and scientific literacy. Statistical tests showed that the data were normally distributed (significance value 0.216), homogeneous variance (0.074), and significant differences between the experimental and control groups (t = 0.038, p < 0.05). The increase in n-gain in the experimental group reached 0.9 (high category), compared to 0.63 (moderate category) in the control group. This study concluded that Project-Based Learning-based flipbooks were significantly more effective than conventional textbooks in improving students' critical thinking skills and scientific literacy. The results of this study confirmed the superiority of PjBL-based flipbooks in significantly improving students' critical thinking skills and scientific literacy compared to conventional textbooks. Statistical data support (normal distribution, homogeneous variance, significant differences between groups, and high n-gain in the experimental group) encourages the adoption of PjBL-based flipbooks as an effective learning strategy to achieve quality education according to SDG-4.
