Abstract

The objective of the present study was to find out whether the reading comprehension of the students of SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar could be improved through Listen-Read-Discuss Strategy. The researcher administered three research instruments, namely pre-test, post-tests and questionnaire. The students' means score showed a significant improvement from the pre-test was 63.5 to 73.3 in cycle I and 81.3 in cycle II. Furthermore, to collect the additional data, the researcher administered the questionnaire at the end of cycle II. It showed that the students responded positively which showed the percentage of 46.59% strongly agreed, 52.72% agreed, 0.68% undecided, 0% disagreed and 0% strongly disagreed. Based on the results of this study, it could be concluded that the Listen-Read-Discuss Strategy could improve the students’ reading comprehension of students of SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar.

Abstract

The use of technology in the classroom is crucial to introducing students to the use of technology and enhancing student literacy, particularly digital literacy. The article demonstrates how to incorporate technology into lessons to help kids become more literate. This study was conducted as literature study that has 5 stages to be completed that are formulating the research questions, looking for the literatures, examining the inclusion, assessing the primary research, processing the data, and interpreting the data. Based on the literature study that has been done, SAMR model and TPACK model are appropriate model to infuse technology into literacy classroom. Regarding to literacy classroom, SAMR model focus on the effect of integrating technology into literacy classroom by dividing the integration into some levels, they are Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. However, TPACK focuses on how technology is integrated in the learning content and also teaching pedagogy.

Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to investigate whether there is a significant correlation between self-confidence and speaking achievement of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 3 Mengwi. The subjects were 32 subjects consisting of 16 males and 16 females. The design was the correlational research design. In collecting the data of this research, two instruments which were used such as self-confidence questionnaire consisting of 30 items and monologue speaking test. The data was analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. This study was designed to test the research hypothesis that is there is a positive correlation between self-confidence and speaking achievement. Hypothesis tests are computed using SPSS 25 version for Windows. Referring to the data, the study concluded that there was a positive and significant correlation between the eighth-grade students’ self-confidence in SMPN 3 Mengwi and their performance in speaking

Abstract

Speaking is a complex aspect of communication, requiring practice and exposure. Self-esteem, representing individuals' beliefs in their worth and abilities, influences how students perform in speaking tasks. The primary goal of this study was to find the correlation between self-esteem and speaking skill. The subject in this study was the seventh-grade students of SMPN 4 Denpasar in the academic year 2023/2024. The sample consisted of 50 students from the seventh-grade. The researchers used two tests to collect data: descriptive monologue test, and questionnaire. The data were analyzed using pearson product moment correlation assissted with SPSS 25.0 version. It was found out that there was a significant correlation between self-esteem and speaking skill of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 4 Denpasar in the academic year 2023/2024. This study provides empirical evidences of the correlation between self-esteem and students’ speaking skill in secondary level.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif yang bertujuan untuk menemukan korelasi antara motivasi dan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris pada mahasiswa ekonomi di Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar. Sampel yang digunakan berjumlah 36 orang yang diambil menggunakan teknik kluster random sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa angket motivasi dan penilaian kinerja. Data yang ditemukan diolah menggunakan Pearson Product Moment Correlation berbantuan SPSS 27.0. Hasil dari analisis memperlihatkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang positif dan signifikan antara motivasi dan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris dari mahasiswa ekonomi di Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar, dengan nilai r sebesar 0.431 yang dapat dikategorikan sebagai hubungan yang cukup tinggi.

Abstract

There are four major English skills that Indonesian students must learn: namely listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Writing is one of the language skills needed to achieve language mastery. On the other hand, writing is an active process of conveying ideas using symbols and arranging them into a readable form. In addition, writing encourages the development of critical thinking skills. The main aim of this research is to apply Think Pair Share in teaching writing. The subjects in this research were class VIII students at SMPN 5 Mengwi. The class consisted of 32 students who were poor in writing, especially in writing paragraphs. Researchers used three tests to collect data: pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. Researchers used the average score formula when calculating all of the subject's pre-test and post-test data. The results of the questionnaire in this research were used to determine and analyze the percentage of student responses to the techniques applied.

Abstract

This research is qualitative research focusing on finding out the types of feminism in poem “Menghapus Katanya” by Maudy Ayunda. It reveals that this poem talks about feminism based on four types of feminism. Based on Liberal Feminism, this poem points out that man and woman have same right especially in education. Related to Marxist Feminism, this poem emphasizes that woman has right in economic in term of working to earn money. From Socialist Feminism view, this poem stresses out that man and woman have equal status. The last, based on Radical Feminism, this poem argues that woman has to be braver and stronger. This poem is really inspired women to speak and act toward feminism and have motivation to be a better version of woman.

Abstract

Teaching practice (PLP II) is considered a compulsory subject for pre-service teachers (PSTs). This agenda is done to equip PSTs with experiences to teach in real-world settings. This study belonged to qualitative study which aimed at analyzing politeness strategies employed by ELE pre-service teachers (PSTs) of FKIP Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar in academic year 2024/2025 during their teaching practices in SMK Rekayasa Denpasar. There were two ELE PSTs being observed. The data were gathered through video recordings of ELE PSTs’ teaching practices in classrooms. The utterances were analyzed using Brown & Levinson’s politeness strategies. It was found that positive politeness strategies were the most employed, followed with negative politeness strategies. The ELE PSTs also used bald-on-record strategies. However, they rarely used off-record strategies. This study showed that ELE PSTs used politeness strategies to maintain social relationships with the students, create supportive learning environment, and encourage students’ active participation.

Abstract

Speaking skills are crucial for effective communication and a cornerstone of language learning. However, many seventh-grade students at SMPN 2 Ubud in the academic year 2024/2025 exhibited deficiencies in their speaking skills, characterized by shyness and fear of making mistakes. This research aimed to investigate whether the implementation of the ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) technique could significantly improve the speaking skills of these students. A classroom action research approach was employed, involving two cycles of data collection through pre-tests, post-tests, and student questionnaires. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in the students' mean scores from the pre-test to the post-test, indicating the effectiveness of the ESA technique. 1 Furthermore, the questionnaire revealed positive student feedback regarding the implementation of this approach. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the ESA technique is an effective strategy for enhancing the speaking skills of seventh-grade students at SMPN 2 Ubud in the academic year 2024/2025.
