Abstract

This research analyzes the renewal of classical Islam from an educational perspective in Muhammadiyah, an Islamic organization in Indonesia. Through an interdisciplinary approach, this research explores the historical background and objectives of the reform movement, as well as its impact on the world of Muslim education. Muhammadiyah, as a movement that was born at the beginning of the 20th century, faced the context of the challenges of colonialism, intellectual stagnation, and the need for reform of Islamic teachings. Muhammadiyah's role was in responding to the social and intellectual conditions of its time by bringing the spirit of tajdid and ijtihad into Islamic education. The research method uses library research with a qualitative approach by comparing data findings with current phenomena in the field. The findings are narrated in a qualitative discussion using credible words. The research results explain that by focusing on curriculum renewal, an inclusive approach, and instilling a critical spirit in Islamic thought, Muhammadiyah is trying to create a relevant and progressive educational environment. The implications of this reform are also analyzed in the context of its impact on the thinking and character of Muslims in the modern world. Substantially, the results of this research provide in-depth insight into how Muhammadiyah plays a role in refreshing and updating classical Islamic teachings through the education system, and how its contribution influences the thinking and character of Muslims in the dynamics of the contemporary world of education.

Abstract

There is a scarcity of empirical studies that specifically examine the integration of Hypothetical Inquiry Learning (HIL) in e-modules to enhance students' critical thinking skills, particularly within the context of digital learning. This study aims to develop an e-module based on HIL to improve students' critical thinking abilities and the overall quality of learning in the digital era. The e-module is designed to facilitate students' understanding of complex concepts through an interactive Hypothetical Inquiry-based learning approach. The study employs a Research and Development (R&D) model based on Alessi and Trollip's framework, encompassing the Planning, Design, and Development stages. The study involved a population of 160 students, with a sample of 81 students from a senior high school in Sukoharjo regency, Central Java, Indonesia, and 5 validation experts, with validity assessed using the Aiken’s V index. The results of the practicality test demonstrated that the e-module based on HIL is highly practical for use as a digital learning tool, achieving a practicality score of approximately 98.32%. Furthermore, the effectiveness test revealed that the e-module significantly improves students' understanding of concepts and critical thinking skills, with an N-gain score of approximately 95.23%. Thus, the e-module based on Hypothetical Inquiry Learning represent an innovative and highly effective educational resource for enhancing student learning outcomes.

Abstract

General Background: The advancement of science and technology has reshaped modern civilization, yet without a moral foundation, it risks diminishing human values. Specific Background: Islamic education, rooted in divine revelation, emphasizes a balanced integration of knowledge from both the Qur'an (Qauliyah verses) and natural phenomena (Kauniyah verses) to cultivate holistic human development. Knowledge Gap: Despite the growing body of research on religious and scientific integration, few studies explore the epistemological synthesis of revelation and empirical observation in shaping Islamic educational frameworks. Aims: This study aims to analyze the integration of Qauliyah and Kauniyah verses with science and technology to build an educational model grounded in both spiritual and intellectual excellence. Results: Through literature review, the study finds that integrating both types of verses enriches pedagogical methods, strengthens students' engagement, and inspires Muslim scholars to develop contextual, character-based education amid global technological challenges. Novelty: The research introduces a conceptual paradigm where scientific inquiry becomes a medium for deepening faith and ethical awareness, rejecting the dichotomy between religious and secular knowledge. Implications: The findings suggest that integrating revelation and empirical knowledge can form a value-based curriculum in Islamic education, offering a viable response to secularization and moral decline in global education.Highlight : Integration of Qauliyah and Kauniyah verses strengthens Islamic education foundations. Islamic education should combine revealed values with scientific knowledge. Science and technology serve as a medium for deeper reflection and faith.
