Abstract

This study aims to examine and provide evidence on how Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosure and firm size affect firm value, as well as the role of profitability from investment activities in moderating these relationships. The sample consists of companies included in the IDX ESG Leaders index, which also have ESG scores, requiring them to implement ESG practices—including green investments—as part of their commitment to sustainability. Data were analyzed using panel data regression and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). The findings reveal that ESG disclosure has a positive impact on firm value, whereas firm size has a negative impact on firm value. These results suggest that sustainability disclosure can foster innovation, enhance corporate reputation, and ultimately create long-term firm value. However, larger firms, despite their ability to adopt sustainability principles, may not consistently achieve optimal efficiency in performance monitoring, which may reduce firm value. Furthermore, the profitability or return on investment (ROI) in green investments was found not to moderate the effect of either ESG disclosure or firm size on firm value. These findings contribute to the sustainability literature, suggesting that firms need to integrate ESG strategies and green investments more effectively to enhance long-term firm value.

Abstract

This research delves into the ways in which sustainability influences business valuation, in particular analyzing how capital structure and performance impact the value of a firm. This study examines the relationship between financial institutions listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and the impact of corporate social responsibility as a moderator from 2020 to 2023. Out of 47 banking firms in Indonesia, 16 were selected for the sample using a purposeful selection approach. Panel data regression, in conjunction with software (version 10), was used to analyze secondary data in this study. The findings demonstrated that the FEM analytical model was the best fit. The research shows that capital structure, when considered in isolation, has no effect on firm value. In contrast, a company's worth may be positively impacted by profitability on its own. The financial structure and profitability of a firm have a substantial impact on its value. Furthermore, CSR does not mitigate the association between capital structure and company value, according to the research. Corporate social responsibility does, however, reduce the correlation between profit and company value.

Abstract

This study aims to estimate the influence of Good Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility on Firm Value with Profitability as an intervening variable, by sampling from companies engaged in the coal industry listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2019-2022 using nonprobability sampling with purposive sampling techniques and data obtained through the official website (BEI) www.idx.co.id. The data analysis method used in this research is path analysis using E-views 10 and the data is confirmed to have passed classical assumptions. The results showed that partially the Independent Board of Commissioners and Corporate Social Responsibility had a positive and significant effect on Earning per Share, but the Audit Committee had no effect on Earning per Share. Then only the Independent Board of Commissioners has a positive and significant effect on Price to Book Value, while the Audit Committee, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Earning per Share do not affect Price to Book Value. And for the mediation results, it is found that Earning per Share fails to mediate the influence of the independent variables (Independent Board of Commissioners, Audit Committee, and Corporate Social Responsibility) on the dependent variable, namely firm value.
