Abstract

Jengok River has a high value for the Kutaliman community. The community utilizes the ecosystem services of the Jengok River and is inseparable from the presence of riparian vegetation, which controls water quality. This study aimed to determine riparian vegetation structure on the Jengok River, Kutaliman, Kedungbanteng district, and Banyumas Regency. The research was conducted in October-November 2022 in the Jengok riparian zone using a quadrat transect with sizes 20x20 m2 for trees dan 2x2 m2 for understoreys. Data were analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index (H'), the Modified Hill's Ratio Evenness Index (e'), the Margalef Richness Index (DMg), and the Important Value Index (IVI). The results show that the diversity of riparian vegetation based on the Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index (H') is a moderate category, and the Evenness Index (e') is the distribution of individuals per species evenly. Furthermore, the Margalef Richness Index (DMg) shows 4.51 for trees and 4.34 for understorey. The highest IVI in the tree stratum was Lansium domesticum Corrêa. In contrast, in the understorey stratum was Musa paradisiacal L. This indicates both species have an essential role in their community

Abstract

The Logawa River is one of the rivers in Banyumas Regency, Central Java Province and flows from a spring in the Windusari, Kalisalak village. The flow of the Logawa River experiences a lot of waste input from various sources, such as sand mining waste and household waste. This allows for a decrease in water quality in the Logawa River. One way to determine water quality is by using biological parameters, for example macrozoobenthos. This research was conducted to determine the quality of water in the Logawa River based on the diversity of macrozoobenthos which was analyzed using the calculation of the Shannon Wiener Diversity Index (H') and Simpson Dominance Index (C). The sample collection method in this study was a field survey which was then observed using a stereo microscope. There are three sampling stations, namely the upstream, downstream and middle stations with two sampling times. The diversity index values obtained ranged from 0.62 - 1.89. The low value of the macrozoobenthos diversity index indicates the negative impact of the sand mining activity. The data obtained were then analyzed for the relationship between existing macrozoobenthos diversity and water quality using Pearson Correlation. Water quality parameters used include temperature, current velocity, pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). The water quality parameter that has the most influence on macrozoobenthos diversity in the Logawa river is COD, with a correlation coefficient of -0.79 in the 1st sampler and -0.98 in the 2nd sampler. The results of the analysis show that the Logawa River is experiencing turbidity caused by sand mining activities

Abstract

Serayu River Watershed is one of the watersheds in Central Java that covers several districts including Wonosobo, Banjarnegara, Purbalingga, Banyumas, and Cilacap. The condition of the Serayu River Watershed at this time has experienced damage and environmental pollution which has resulted in a decrease in the quality of Serayu River Water. Calcium is one of the minerals present in water and sediment. Calcium content is influenced by reactions involving carbon dioxide gas either due to respiration of plants or aquatic animals. The presence of domestic wastewater is an external element that can affect high calcium concentrations in waters. The purpose of this study was to determine the distribution of Calcium (Ca) in the Serayu River Watershed. Sampling was conducted in November 2023 located in the Serayu Watershed Area. Sampling was carried out at 15 points of the Serayu River Watershed. The method used is titrimetric analysis. The analysis results obtained are the highest Calcium (Ca) value found in Menyawak River at 52.40 mg/L. The calcium distribution map shows a red interpolation color. The lowest Calcium (Ca) value is found in the Kalisapi River at 19.20 mg/L. The calcium distribution map shows a yellow interpolation color.

Abstract

The Mojo Village mangrove forest in Pemalang has undergone environmental degradation due to land conversion into shrimp farming areas. This conversion has led to increased anthropogenic activities, which are potential sources of heavy metal contamination in the waters, particularly lead (Pb). This study aimed to analyse Pb concentrations in sediments and gastropods and assess the potential of gastropods as bioindicators of Pb pollution. Sample preparation followed the USEPA 3051 method, and Pb analysis was conducted using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The results identified five gastropod species: Littoraria melanostoma, Littoraria scabra, Cerithidea cingulata, Cerithidea obtusa, and Cerithidea decollata. Pb concentrations in sediments averaged 11.86 ± 1.24 mg/kg, while in gastropods, the average was 0.43 ± 0.16 mg/kg. Although Pb levels in sediments indicate low contamination and no pollution, they may still pose potential biological risks. Cerithidea cingulata and Cerithidea obtusa were categorized as deco-concentrators with the potential to serve as bioindicators of Pb pollution. The study also revealed a very strong correlation between Pb concentrations in sediments and gastropods.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the reservoirs in Central Java is Penjalin Reservoir, which is specifically situated in Winduaji Village, Paguyangan District, Brebes Regency. Penjalin Reservoir is now dealing with environmental degradation issues, such as highly filthy water and rapidly growing water algae that might upset the ecosystem's equilibrium. The Jenderal Soedirman University (UNSOED) Team and the local Village Government, working through the Village Community Empowerment Institution (LPMD), followed up on this by developing a program of activities to combat environmental degradation in order to preserve the ecosystem's equilibrium and generate income for the neighborhood. Socialization and training for this program were conducted as a first stage. Technical advice for fish farming operations, including seed certification and business management training, will also be provided. Efforts are also being made to reintroduce fish, particularly herbivorous fish species, in an attempt to quickly overcome hydrilla. Facilities for consultation are offered as a crucial component of carrying out this activity. The first stage, socialization and training targeted at the people living near the Penjalin Reservoir, is the main topic of this essay. Educating the community about the current state of the Penjalin Reservoir and the significance of maintaining the aquatic ecosystem's equilibrium is the top goal during the socialization stage. In addition to talking about environmental issues, this program also covers the financial benefits of managing the Penjalin Reservoir sustainably, such as by raising carp and tilapia, which both benefit the ecosystem and boost revenue. Participants are encouraged to comprehend the training's goal of preserving the ecology and boosting the local economy by highlighting the significance of the community's active participation in improvements to the reservoir. The execution of the following work stage depends on this task. An excellent partner that may support and act as a stimulant for the local population is LPMD, an official village-level organization. A participatory strategy is used to carry out the programs, meaning that program partners actively participate in every activity.

Abstract

Tempeh is known as a traditional fermented food that has been popular in Indonesia for hundreds of years. One of the tempeh that is widely consumed in Banyumas regency is Dage, which is made from fermented coconut waste. Currently, there is no information regarding the presence of probiotics in Dage. Therefore, this study aims to detect the diversity of probiotic types in the Dage tempeh microbiome using the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) approach. The research stages consisted of sampling, enrichment in MRSB and R2A media, DNA extraction, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Illumina NGS-based sequencing, and bioinformatics analysis using QIIME2 and MEGA XI software. The results showed that the Dage was dominated by bacteria from the genera Lactobacillus, Weisella, and Acetobacter, which are known as a group of probiotics. In addition, bacteria from the genus Bifidobacterium and Enterococcus were also detected. Diversity analysis showed that Dage enriched in R2A medium had higher species diversity than in MRSB medium. However, the presence of the probiotic bacteria group was more abundant in MRSB medium. The dominant amplicons by phylogenetic analysis were identified as Lactobacillus spicheri, Lactobacillus zymae, Lactobacillus crustorum, Companilactobacillus farciminis, Weisella paramesenteroides, and Acetobacter indonesianensis, which previously have several probiotic properties. These results provide novel information regarding the presence of probiotic bacteria in Dage, which can be explored further using a culturable approach.
