Abstract

This study examines the commitment of vocational teacher education students at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in applying core character values. The global trend in teacher education links education and economic growth, emphasizing students' competence for the job market. However, teachers are also expected to address social and moral cohesion in the younger generation. The research involved 177 third- and fourth-year students at FPTV UTHM Malaysia and an equal number at FT-UNY, utilizing a questionnaire based on core character values. The findings indicate moderate commitment levels (58.75%) among university students. UTHM students scored slightly higher (2.42) than UNY students (2.28). The study shows that character education for vocational teacher education students in both Indonesia and Malaysia has not reached optimal levels, emphasizing the need to investigate more effective character education models for future vocational teachers.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the quality of content and compound sentences. A compound sentence is a sentence that has two or more subordinate clauses connected by a conjunction. Compound sentences with several types will expand the scope of analysis in this research. These types include equivalent compounds, multilevel compounds, dense compounds, expanded compounds, and mixed compounds. However, our team's analysis was limited to three compound sentences, namely equivalent compound sentences (coordinative compound sentences), graded compound sentences (subordinating compound sentences), and mixed compound sentences. This research aims to evaluate the quality of the short story content in the short story anthology book entitled “Rinduku Sederas Hujan Sore Itu” and to expand the intellectual level of readers and writers. Researchers use qualitative research techniques which are classified as a type of qualitative descriptive research, namely trying to build existing facts to present information as it is. Through the results of the research, it was found: (1) the short stories in the short story collection “Rinduku Sederas Hujan Sore Itu” have different qualities, some are easy to understand, some are difficult to understand, (2) equivalent compound sentences are found more often, and (3) compound sentences in short story collections often appear in compound sentences with two clauses. It is hoped that this research can better help readers understand heavy texts and how to classify heavy texts in the short story anthology “Rinduku Sederas Hujan Sore Itu”.

Abstract

In the rapidly evolving landscape of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it is imperative to assess the readiness and competencies of vocational high school graduates. This evaluation is crucial to ensure that these graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the demands of modern industries. The study, which uses a descriptive qualitative method, evaluates Vocational High School graduates' competency standards in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, particularly at State Vocational High Schools in Godean, Yogyakarta. The data analysis technique employed in this study involves qualitative methods, specifically thematic analysis, to identify and analyze critical themes and patterns related to the competencies and employment experiences of the graduates. Data were collected through interviews and observations of SMK graduates who have been employed or are currently seeking employment. The research findings indicate that the percentage of graduates who successfully obtain jobs related to their field of study or relevant is less than 40%. The main factor causing this is graduates' lack of interest or motivation to seek employment in Yogyakarta. Many graduates prefer to pursue job opportunities in other cities with lower competitiveness. Additionally, there is still a lack of willingness to develop themselves and improve the skills needed in the modern industry. It is crucial for graduates to understand the importance of continuous learning and self-development in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In conclusion, organizing job fairs is recommended to facilitate graduates' entry into the industrial world by providing opportunities for direct interaction with industry representatives and access to diverse job vacancies. These efforts require close cooperation between local governments, educational institutions, and the industry to emphasize the importance of self-development and skills.

Temuan ini diharapkan menjadi acuan untuk perancangan program pengembangan kompetensi yang lebih terstruktur di masa depan.   Needs analysis for competency development of higher education personnel in state universities   Abstract: This study examines the management of competency development for educational staff in public universities, which plays a crucial role in improving the performance of educational services. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research collected data through observations and interviews with educational staff at universities. The findings reveal that while the competencies of educational staff have met the basic requirements of their work, competency development has not been comprehensively implemented within a management framework that includes planning, organizing, implementation, control, and evaluation. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for designing more structured competency development programs in the future.

Abstract

The Triple Helix Model (THM) of innovation has gained significant attention as a policymaking framework to enhance innovation and promote economic growth. This aligns with the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), which focuses on clearly defined skills and knowledge that individuals are expected to acquire. This study aims to: (1) identify the THM model suitable for Indonesia and Malaysia; (2) describe the current level of THM implementation; (3) assess the THM ecosystem's needs from the perspectives of government, industry, and universities; (4) evaluate the role of the government in THM implementation; (5) assess the industry's role in THM; and (6) analyze the universities' role in THM. The research uses document analysis and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) involving lecturers, officials, and government personnel. Thematic analysis was applied to data from the document review and FGDs. A four-point Likert-scale questionnaire, based on the roles of key stakeholders in THM, was used, with data analyzed descriptively by Mean and Standard Deviation. The findings reveal that: (1) the Balanced Triple Helix Model (BTM) is the preferred model for both Indonesia and Malaysia; (2) the government, industry, and universities in both countries classify the BTM implementation as average; (3) the supporting ecosystem for BTM implementation is also classified as average; and (4) the roles of government, industry, and universities in both countries are classified as average in BTM implementation. Keywords: government, industry, OBE curriculum, Triple-helix model, university
