Abstract

The purpose of this study was to review barriers in the foreign workers in Industry. We took data for the industry in Malaysia. This study was conducted based on only 55 workers from the Nadayu site. It is recommended that the study be carried out in a larger sample and involvement of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and the registered CIDB contractor. This study focus on the language barrier, safety knowledge, and background of workers, and these factors contribute to the effectiveness of training. It is proposed to have an in-depth study on the syllabus, methodology of training, motivation, and commitment of the company to improve CIDB training.

Abstract

LaNi5 is widely used in various applications. Many methods to produce LaNi5 particles have been reported but information for the large-scale production, so far, is less available. This study aimed to evaluate the project for the production of LaNi5 particles using combustion-reduction (CR) and co-precipitation-reduction (CPR) methods based on engineering and economic perspective. Engineering evaluation was conducted by evaluating the CR and CPR processes from stoichiometry. For the economic evaluation, several economic parameters were calculated in the ideal condition including gross profit margin (GPM), payback period (PBP), break-even point (BEP), cumulative net present value (CNPV), profitability index (PI), internal rate return (IRR), and return on investment (ROI). For the worst cases in the project, it was done by calculating both the internal problems (i.e., raw materials, sales, utility, labor, employee, fixed cost, variable cost, and production capacity) and the external issues (i.e., taxes and subsidiaries). The engineering analysis provided the information that CR and CPR projects are prospective for being able to be done using commercial apparatuses. The economic analysis from GPM, PBP, BEP, CNPV, and PI showed the positive results, while IRR and ROI showed the negative ones, indicating that the projects are acceptable for large-scale production, but it seems to be less attractive for industrial investors. The analysis also confirmed that the CR process was more prospective than the CPR process. This work has demonstrated the important of the projects for further developments.

Abstract

In the realm of education, learning and instructional activities play a crucial role in cultivating lasting and meaningful comprehension among science students. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the i-Genius module in enhancing students’ performance in science. The i-Genius module’s development adhered to the ADDIE model, and two specific research questions were formulated: i) is there a statistically significant difference in mean scores between the experimental and control groups? and ii) to what extent can i-Genius contribute to students’ conceptual evolution compared to traditional methods? To address these questions, a sequential mixed-method approach involving interviews, pre-tests, and post-tests was implemented in two distinct schools in the Seremban District. The experimental group comprised 35 participants, and the control group also included 35 students with similar characteristics. Student performance, assessed through pre-test and post-test mean scores, revealed that students exposed to i-Genius achieved significantly higher scores than those exposed to traditional methods in the post-test (t(68)=8.37, p<0.05). This study’s implications lie in its practical application within the school context, offering an alternative instructional tool for teaching science and presenting an instructional model to guide teachers in formulating strategies that encourage problem-posing within the science curriculum.

Abstract

Multicultural education is an essential approach for fostering inclusivity and promoting diversity within primary school settings. This systematic literature review aims to explore the issues employed in multicultural education within primary schools, utilizing a data source from Springer, a renowned academic publisher. This research applies the systematic review literature method with the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) protocol. The review examines scholarly articles published between 2018 and 2023 to identify trends, challenges, and best practices in the field. The findings of this review have implications for educators, policymakers, and practitioners in the field of education. The identified best practices, such as problem-based learning, social-emotional learning, and virtual field trips, can guide the development of curriculum frameworks, instructional approaches, and professional development programs that prioritize multicultural education in primary schools.

Abstract

The Triple Helix Model (THM) of innovation has gained significant attention as a policymaking framework to enhance innovation and promote economic growth. This aligns with the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), which focuses on clearly defined skills and knowledge that individuals are expected to acquire. This study aims to: (1) identify the THM model suitable for Indonesia and Malaysia; (2) describe the current level of THM implementation; (3) assess the THM ecosystem's needs from the perspectives of government, industry, and universities; (4) evaluate the role of the government in THM implementation; (5) assess the industry's role in THM; and (6) analyze the universities' role in THM. The research uses document analysis and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) involving lecturers, officials, and government personnel. Thematic analysis was applied to data from the document review and FGDs. A four-point Likert-scale questionnaire, based on the roles of key stakeholders in THM, was used, with data analyzed descriptively by Mean and Standard Deviation. The findings reveal that: (1) the Balanced Triple Helix Model (BTM) is the preferred model for both Indonesia and Malaysia; (2) the government, industry, and universities in both countries classify the BTM implementation as average; (3) the supporting ecosystem for BTM implementation is also classified as average; and (4) the roles of government, industry, and universities in both countries are classified as average in BTM implementation. Keywords: government, industry, OBE curriculum, Triple-helix model, university

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop the Competency Index of TVET instructors towards Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0). The new technological waves from IR4.0 bring changes and development to current technology, and the TVET education system in Malaysia is bound to face a similar fate. TVET instructors play the biggest role to shape the human product in TVET institutions. A competent TVET instructor will yield competent human capital. Therefore, the reinforcement of the TVET system should begin with the main player which is the TVET instructor.  Therefore, a Delphi study will be conducted involving 11 expert panels to identify the index of Competency of TVET instructors towards IR4.0. With the findings from this Delphi study, a questionnaire about Competency Index will be developed. Then, the questionnaire will be distributed to 147 TVET instructors from the electrical and electronics department at the institution under the Ministry of Youth and Sport. The data collected from the questionnaire will help the researcher to develop the Competency Index of TVET instructors towards IR4.0. The findings of the study will help the TVET institution in preparing TVET instructors to become specialized, highly-skilled, competent, and efficient in the attempt to strengthen the teaching profession, which is in line with IR4.0.

Abstract

Implementing remedial and enrichment strategies followed by modeling the weight of the appraisal is the goal to be achieved in this study. The ASSURE model in this study has been used to develop an appraisal model for remedial and enrichment activities integrated with the independent curriculum in the vocational field. The results showed that the peer tutoring strategy among students could optimize remedial and enrichment outcomes. The students have shown their ability in independent and collaborative learning. In remedial and enrichment activities, groups of enrichment students have been directed to help their friends to be successful in remedial. Students' success in the remedial process is the success of enriching other students and vice versa. Each student has received an appreciation of the value according to his effort. The progress of remedial students is 8% to 82%, with an average of 10%. This progress forms the basis for determining the final score for the remedial, intermediate, and enrichment groups as tutors. The difference between the remedial and enrichment appraisal weights was determined using mathematical model 1. The final score of students who become tutors is determined using the mathematical model 3. The three mathematical models above can calculate remedial, enrichment, and tutor results. The use of this model helps teachers or lecturers to be more objective in giving grades. Lecturers' appraisal of student learning outcomes has been carried out in a transparent, fair, and accountable following the differences in the potential competencies of each student. Students have followed the learning process, the assessment process has been carried out properly, the teacher's documentation is complete, and the teacher is more confident.
