Abstract

The doll beggar phenomenon in Medan City reflects complex social dysfunction caused by economic, social, and cultural factors. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon through the lens of social pathology using a descriptive qualitative method. The findings reveal that limited education, economic pressure, and an informal work culture are the dominant factors driving individuals to become doll beggars. This phenomenon also reflects structural poverty and the failure of social institutions to protect vulnerable groups, particularly children. By understanding these socio-economic dynamics, the study provides critical insights for designing more effective intervention policies to address social pathology in Medan City.
