Abstract

Application of Mobile Applications in Teaching English Phonology for elementary school students to learn English independently, interestingly, and can be used whenever and wherever they are. One method that can increase interest and vocabulary in English for elementary school students is by creating interesting and unique learning media. Well-designed learning media can foster interest in learning and improve the quality of school education. The aim of this research is to determine the benefits of implementing mobile applications in teaching English phonology in elementary schools. The method in this research uses a qualitative method. The results of this research, the application of mobile applications in teaching English phonology in elementary schools, can help elementary school students in listening training , becoming interactive games in learning English, practicing vocabulary and speaking (speeking).

Abstract

Studi ini meneliti peran pragmatik dalam membangun makna dalam komunikasi sehari-hari. Pragmatik, cabang linguistik yang berfokus pada bagaimana konteks memengaruhi penafsiran makna, melampaui makna harfiah kata-kata untuk mengungkap bagaimana individu memahami maksud, makna tersirat, dan isyarat sosial. Dengan menerapkan teori implikatur, praanggapan, dan deiksis, analisis ini menyelidiki bagaimana individu berkomunikasi secara eksplisit dan implisit dalam interaksi sehari-hari. Data untuk studi ini dikumpulkan melalui pengamatan naturalistik percakapan dalam berbagai latar, termasuk lingkungan kasual, profesional, dan publik. Temuan tersebut mengungkapkan bahwa pragmatik memainkan peran penting dalam menciptakan koherensi dan saling pengertian antara pembicara, sering kali membimbing pendengar dalam menafsirkan makna berdasarkan konteks, latar belakang budaya, dan dinamika relasional. Selain itu, studi ini menyoroti bagaimana strategi komunikatif seperti tindak tutur tidak langsung dan kesopanan membentuk interaksi, terutama dalam mengelola hubungan sosial dan menjaga keharmonisan. Penelitian ini menggarisbawahi pentingnya pragmatik dalam pemahaman bahasa, yang menunjukkan bahwa komunikasi yang efektif bergantung pada kemampuan untuk menavigasi makna yang mendasarinya, harapan sosial, dan faktor kontekstual. Melalui pemeriksaan mendalam terhadap dialog sehari-hari, penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang bagaimana bahasa berfungsi secara pragmatis, menawarkan wawasan yang relevan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi di berbagai lingkungan. Dengan menjembatani kesenjangan antara teori linguistik dan aplikasi praktis, penelitian ini memberikan kerangka kerja yang berharga untuk memeriksa komunikasi dalam konteks di mana makna bersama sangat penting untuk interaksi pribadi, sosial, dan profesional.

Abstract

This study investigates cultural transfer errors in the dialogues of the Harry Potter film series within the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. Based on contrastive and error analyses, this study aims to identify types of cultural transfer errors and explain how differences in cultural and pragmatic norms between first (L1) and second (L2) languages contribute to learners’ misinterpretation of meaning. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected from selected film dialogues containing idiomatic expressions, politeness strategies, and culturally embedded meanings. The findings reveal that EFL learners tend to interpret idiomatic expressions literally, resulting in the loss of emotional, evaluative, and pragmatic meanings intended by the speaker. These errors are primarily caused by L1 interference and limited cultural awareness, particularly regarding indirectness and idiomatic language use in English. The study concludes that cultural transfer errors extend beyond grammatical inaccuracies and significantly affect pragmatic competence. The study underscores the importance of incorporating cultural and pragmatic instruction into EFL learning and showcases the efficacy of film dialogue as authentic material for cultivating learners' cross-cultural communicative competence.
