Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore aspects of children’s communication skills in middle childhood in Indonesia. The study was conducted by using qualitative approach. Data were collected through FGDs with parents of school-aged children and group interviews with fifth-grade students. The FGDs were used to explore parents’ opinions on the expected ways of communicating that children aged 9-11 years or around grades 4 to 6 should be able to perform. In the group interviews, the students were asked to give their opinions on the appropriate ways of communicating, During this process, the children were particularly asked to respond to 14 picture stories that depicted eveyday communication situations. The 14 stories used in the interviews were developed based on a preliminary study that explored the variety of communications children commonly did in their everyday life. All the data collected were analysed by using inductive thematic analysis. The result of the analysis revealed eight themes, including receptive skills, language accuracy, context understanding, openness, assertiveness, self-confidence, social sensitivity, and politeness. This research found two main findings which are themes related to receptive communication skills that emphasized understanding on non-verbal messages and themes related to structure of communication skills that focused on social competence. The themes that represented social competence indicated that both characteristics of individualistic and collectivistic cultures have roles in shaping children’s communication skills.

Abstract

Children at risk are children who are vulnerable to losing their rights due to certain conditions in their environment or certain situations in their lives. Children at risk need to receive appropriate assistance to develop adaptive behavior. To provide appropriate assistance, a psychological assessment is needed because most children are at risk of experiencing psychological problems. The results of the assessment showed that forms of psychological problems were found, including difficulty regulating emotions, feeling insecure, negative self-concept, feeling rejected by the environment, lack of familiarity with rules and manners, not knowing what is right and wrong, committing acts of aggressiveness, being undisciplined, experiencing learning difficulties, lack of social skills. Based on these findings, training for at-risk children's companions is provided. There are five training topics, namely creating a supportive and empathetic atmosphere, teaching to act with conscience, basic counseling skills, emotional regulation, and developing social and communication skills in children. The results of the training can provide additional knowledge and skills to caregivers and companions of children at risk at the Dream House.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengeksplorasi pengalaman para pendamping di salah satu shelter atau rumah singgah yang menampung dan mendampingi anak-anak jalanan dan anak-anak dari keluarga kurang beruntung. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode focus group discussion (FGD). Pengumpulan data berfokus pada dua hal penting, yakni berbagai permasalahan mendasar yang dialami anak-anak shelter dan kebutuhan pendampingan yang perlu diberikan oleh para pendamping. Hasil dari penelitian ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan pemikiran Greenleaf tentang kepemimpinan yang melayani secara empatik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa anak-anak shelter memiliki  permasalahan mendasar tentang pengolahan emosi, tanggungjawab, kekerasan, kedewasaan bertindak seksual dan kepribadian. Berhadapan dengan berbagai permasalahan mendasar itu, anak-anak shelter memerlukan pendampingan yang melayani secara empatik sehingga anak-anak mampu bertumbuh dalam keyakinan diri, emosi yang sehat, kejujuran dan saling menghargai, persahabatan yang tulus, kreativitas kolaboratif, dan kemampuan saling mendengarkan. Anak anak shelter memerlukan pendampingan yang empatik agar mampu bertumbuh dalam keyakinan diri, persahabatan, tanggungjawab, kepedulian dan kedewasaan afektif.

Abstract

As affected by Covid-19 pandemic, most of children experienced online learning. This online learning could affect children school readiness when they entering school. They showed various problems, such as math, writing, emotion, attention and in following instructions. To assist these children, teachers need to assess their school readiness using NST, and their intellectual potential using CPM. As the assessment process often takes time, we developed an information system integrated in this assessment. This system enables the psychologists to reduce time in doing the assessment and teachers may get the result faster. Based on the assessment using NST and CPM, it was found that in general children are ready to enter the school.

Abstract

Spirituality in Indonesia, often associated with religious adherents, becomes a separate question when associated with agnosticism. This study aims to describe the spirituality of agnostic individuals in Indonesia and its factors. Qualitative research methods were used, including deductive and inductive approaches, and the data was analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method. The data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with three agnostic individuals in Indonesia. The results showed that the three participants viewed God as existing but did not see from a religious perspective. The participants had illogical experiences and were associated with transcendent dimensions and luck. Informants have a life goal to be kind to others and are based on rationality and transcendent values. Informants consider that doing good is an observance of God. All three informants have been interested in philosophical views other than agnosticism. The factors underlying conversion and maintaining agnosticism in Indonesia are being critical of religious teachings and their adherents, not caring about people's comments, being kind without being religious, having a religion administratively, and being accepted by society. Based on their experiences and feelings, the three informants had experienced negative stigma from their social environment but felt free from religious demands.   Spiritualitas yang sering dikaitkan dengan umat beragama menjadi pertanyaan tersendiri jika dikaitkan dengan agnostisisme, khususnya di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran spiritualitas dan faktor pada individu agnostik di Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deduktif dan induktif, serta dianalisis dengan metode Analisis Isi Kualitatif (AIK). Data dalam penelitian ini didapatkan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur pada tiga individu agnostik di Indonesia. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ketiga informan memandang Tuhan itu ada tetapi tidak melihatnya dari perspektif agama. Ketiga informan mengakui pernah memiliki pengalaman yang tidak logis dan dikaitkan dengan dimensi transenden serta keberuntungan. Ketiganya memiliki tujuan hidup untuk berbuat baik pada sesama dan berprinsip pada rasionalitas serta nilai transenden. Ketiga informan menganggap bahwa berbuat baik adalah praktik spiritual kepada Tuhan. Ketiga informan mengaku pernah tertarik pada pandangan filosofis selain agnostisisme. Ditemukan pula faktor yang mendasari konversi dan alasan mempertahankan pandangan agnostisisme di Indonesia, yakni kritis terhadap ajaran agama dan penganutnya, tidak peduli pada komentar orang lain, dapat berbuat baik tanpa beragama, memiliki agama secara administratif, serta dimaklumi oleh lingkungannya. Berdasarkan pengalaman dan perasaan, ketiga informan pernah mendapat stigma negatif dari lingkungan sosial tetapi merasa bebas dari tuntutan agama.

Anak anak shelter memerlukan pendampingan yang empatik agar mampu bertumbuh dalam keyakinan diri, persahabatan, tanggungjawab, kepedulian dan kedewasaan afektif.
