Abstract

This qualitative study explores the parenting practices of young Islamic parents in Pontianak, Indonesia, amidst the evolving contexts of pop Islamism and fluid Islamism. The research uses anthropological lenses to focus on early childhood parenting within millennial Islamic families. The city of Pontianak, characterized by rapid development, ethnic and cultural diversity, and varied religious practices, provides a unique setting for examining these dynamics. Data collection encompassed observations, interviews, and documentation, targeting millennial Muslim parents born between 1981 and 1996, with children aged 0-8 years, totaling 83 participants. Interviews spanned a range of Islamic ideologies, including popular Islamism, tarbiyah, Tahrir, Salafi, and jihadist. The methodology involved data assembly, comprehensive observation, coding, categorization into themes, and narrative presentation. The results reveal diverse parenting patterns influenced by religious affiliations, advisors, worship practices, and explicit or implicit religious affiliations. While parenting styles varied, a high prevalence of authoritarian approaches was noted, with religion playing a pivotal role in child-rearing decisions and social interactions. The study also highlights the material aspects of parenting, including doctrinal ideologies and their manifestation in everyday life. The findings provide crucial insights into contemporary Islamic society's social and religious dynamics, emphasizing the need for an inclusive, multidimensional approach to understanding Islamism that extends beyond political and ideological realms. This research contributes to a deeper comprehension of Islamic millennial families' social and cultural intricacies in Indonesia and their strategies for balancing religious traditions with modern challenges.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of religious moderation values in Islamic religious education at SMK TI Bali Global Klungkung. Through a qualitative approach, the main finding of this research is the identification of ten religious moderation values being implemented: justice, balance, tolerance, centrism, love for the country, deliberation, improvement, pioneering, non-violence, and cultural friendliness. The implementation is achieved by integrating these values into the curriculum, evaluation techniques, and daily life practices, as well as through habituation and exemplification. The results have positive implications, such as establishing harmonious relationships between Muslim students and the community, increasing student achievement and creativity, and boosting the number of Muslim students in the school. The findings align with the concept of moderation in Islam, behavioristic theory, and expert opinions on religious moderation as a solution to the problem of radicalism. This research contributes to forming students with moderate, tolerant, fair, balanced, and non-violent characters who can adapt to a pluralistic environment following the objectives of Islamic education. The limitation of this study is that its scope is confined to one school.

Abstract

The challenges faced by educational institutions in improving the quality of education and human resources require effective leadership strategies. This research focuses on the efforts of the principal at MTs Nurul Hidayah Tegalsiwalan Probolinggo to address issues related to curriculum objectives, teaching staff, methodologies, facilities, and evaluations. The study explores how the principal's leadership enhances teacher professionalism, facilities, learning quality, and student achievement. A qualitative approach with a case study method was employed to provide an in-depth analysis of the principal's leadership role. Data collection included interviews, observations, and documentation, with humans as the primary research instrument. Following Denzin and Lincoln's framework, the study was conducted naturally to interpret phenomena through descriptive data and inductive analysis. The findings indicate that the principal effectively fulfils multiple roles—educator, manager, administrator, supervisor, leader, innovator, and motivator—while demonstrating a charismatic and authoritative leadership style, strong managerial skills, effective communication, and a flexible approach. Supporting factors include leadership qualities and collaboration while inhibiting factors involve inadequate facilities, limited institutional support, and insufficient managerial training. The study recommends prioritizing leadership development programs, enhanced resource allocation, and infrastructure improvements to overcome barriers. Future research should investigate technology integration in leadership practices and strategies for fostering sustainable educational quality in similar contexts.

Abstract

The phenomenon of pekhanjangan money as a customary sanction in the marriage of the Singkil Aceh Tribe creates a dilemma between the fulfillment of the right to marry and customary obligations. This tradition requires the bride-to-be to compensate her unmarried brother before the wedding. This research aims to analyze the practice of pekhanjangan money and its relevance to maqasid sharia, especially in the aspects of maintaining religion, soul, offspring, mind, and property. The research method uses a qualitative approach with the type of case study in three sub-districts of Aceh Singkil District. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 15 informants (traditional leaders, religious leaders, perpetrators, and recipients of pekhanjangan), participant observation in three marriage cases, and documentation studies. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results showed that the practice of pekhanjangan is still strongly implemented with a flexible system, where the value of compensation can be negotiated according to economic capacity, ranging from one mayam of gold to other forms of compensation. From the maqasid sharia perspective, this practice supports the maintenance of the soul and intellect through its function in maintaining family harmony and mental health. However, implementation adjustments are needed so as not to cause excessive hardship for the less well-off parties and remain in line with sharia principles.
