Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in Catholic Religious Education (PAK) at SDN Saloo Hilina’a, which is attributed to the lack of innovative learning media used by educators. The study, titled "Improving PAK Student Learning Outcomes with PBL Learning Canva Application in Class IV of SDN Saloo Hilina’a, North Nias Regency", aims to determine whether the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model using the Canva application can improve student learning outcomes. This classroom action research (CAR) was conducted in two cycles. The first cycle implemented conventional learning without the PBL method, while the second cycle applied the PBL approach supported by the Canva application. Canva is a digital tool that allows the creation of various learning materials such as greeting cards, posters, brochures, infographics, and presentation media. In the second cycle, the integration of PBL with Canva media increased student engagement and participation in the learning process. The results showed a significant improvement in student learning outcomes and enthusiasm from cycle to cycle. The study concludes that the use of the PBL model supported by Canva can effectively enhance student activeness and learning outcomes in PAK subjects. This combination serves not only as a visual support tool but also helps students develop visual literacy skills relevant to the digital era, thereby making learning more interactive, creative, and student-centered.

Abstract

This study was conducted at SMAN 2 Sengah Temila, where many students exhibited low literacy and numeracy skills, resulting in decreased learning motivation. To address this issue, the researcher implemented the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The objectives of the study were to determine: (1) the extent to which the PBL model improves students’ mutual cooperation attitudes; (2) the extent to which it enhances learning outcomes; and (3) the extent to which it increases learning mastery. This classroom action research (CAR) was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 25 students. Data collection techniques included tests, observations, and documentation, with data analyzed descriptively and presented in graphs and tables. In the first cycle, cognitive test results showed that 20% of students were categorized as very good, 36% good, 16% sufficient, and 28% developing. The target was 50% very good, 45% good, 5% sufficient, and 0% developing. In the second cycle, there was a significant improvement, with 72% of students achieving the very good category and 28% in the good category, surpassing the target of 70% and 30%, respectively. The sufficient and developing categories reached 0%, as targeted. The findings demonstrate that the PBL model effectively improves student learning outcomes and fosters cooperative attitudes, validating its use as a successful approach to achieving learning objectives in classrooms with low academic motivation.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students at SMA Negeri 1 Kota Gajah, particularly in the subject of Catholic Religious Education and Character Education. Therefore, a classroom action research (CAR) was conducted to determine the extent to which the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model could improve the learning outcomes of Grade XI Phase F students on the topic “Developing a Culture of Love.” The study was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. In the first cycle, the evaluation results showed that only 3 students (37.5%) achieved mastery learning, while 5 students (62.5%) had not. Based on these results, an improvement action was conducted in the second cycle. The outcome of the second cycle showed a significant increase, with all students (100%) successfully achieving mastery learning. These findings indicate that the implementation of the PBL model effectively improves student learning outcomes on the topic “Developing a Culture of Love.” Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model not only enhances student learning outcomes but also successfully achieves the Minimum Competency Criteria (KKM) of 100% in Grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Kota Gajah in the 2024/2025 Academic Year. The implementation of this method has proven effective and can serve as an alternative approach to improving the quality of Catholic Religious Education learning at the high school level.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted to address the lack of student motivation in Catholic Religious Education (PAK) subjects, which often leads to low academic achievement. The study aimed to determine whether the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model could improve students' learning motivation and academic performance, specifically in the topic "Involved in Environmental Conservation" for Grade V students (Phase C) at UPTD SD I Wue, Ngada, NTT. The research was conducted in two cycles, each comprising four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 20 fifth-grade students. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. In the first cycle, where the lecture method was used, the motivation level was 48.7%. In the second cycle, after implementing the PBL method, student motivation increased significantly to 94.5%. The findings showed that PBL effectively enhances learning motivation through improvements in enthusiasm, active participation in discussions, the ability to express opinions, and students' awareness of environmental preservation as an expression of faith. These results confirm that the PBL model fosters a more engaging and contextual learning experience, making it an effective approach in PAK education to build students’ moral and spiritual awareness of environmental issues. Therefore, PBL can be recommended as an alternative strategy to enhance learning motivation and faith-based understanding in Catholic Religious Education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between work motivation and discipline on the performance achievement of Catholic Religious Education (PAK) teachers in the Semarang region. The research uses a quantitative survey approach, collecting data from 15 PAK teachers through a validated questionnaire. The instruments used to measure work motivation are based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs for the motivational aspect, while discipline is measured using indicators developed by Rivai, and performance achievement is evaluated based on parameters defined by Robbins. The findings show that motivational drive contributes 50.5% to performance achievement (R² = 0.505, p = 0.003). This indicates that work motivation has a significant impact on performance, although its contribution is lower compared to discipline. In contrast, discipline contributes more significantly to performance achievement, accounting for 66.2% (R² = 0.662, p = 0.000). This suggests that discipline is a more dominant factor in improving the performance of Catholic Religious Education teachers, as discipline is critical in achieving optimal performance. Simultaneous analysis reveals that the combination of motivation and discipline explains 72.6% of the variation in performance achievement (R² = 0.726, F = 13.893, p = 0.000). This result indicates that both variables are significantly related to performance achievement when considered together. However, partial tests show that only discipline has a significant independent impact on teacher performance, with p = 0.121, while motivation does not have a significant effect when considered separately. This study concludes that discipline functions as the main mediator in the relationship between work motivation and performance achievement. Therefore, it is essential to strengthen discipline in efforts to improve teacher performance, particularly in the context of Catholic Religious Education.

Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology presents significant opportunities for transforming educational practices, such as personalization, rapid formative feedback, and administrative efficiency. However, AI adoption in schools also brings challenges related to values, particularly the potential erosion of students' positive character traits. These challenges include dependency on automated tools, tendencies toward plagiarism, weakening of moral obligations regarding academic honesty, and a decline in critical thinking skills concerning AI-generated content. This article aims to conduct a conceptual study and literature review of policies to: (a) map the relationship between AI adoption and student character issues; (b) identify the factors contributing to the character crisis in AI utilization; and (c) propose pedagogical intervention strategies, school policies, and research agendas to address these challenges. Key recommendations include integrating AI literacy and digital ethics into the curriculum, strengthening teacher capacity through practical training, designing policies that ensure human control over the learning process, and fostering collaboration between policymakers, educators, and technology developers. This collaborative effort will ensure that AI serves to enhance, rather than replace, the development of students' character.

Abstract

The Parish of Saint Stanislaus Girisonta, situated in Semarang Regency, is surrounded by numerous industrial factories, attracting a significant number of Catholic migrant workers. However, the Church lacks comprehensive data on these migrants and has not yet developed a dedicated pastoral program to address their spiritual needs. This study examines the current state of pastoral care for factory employees in Girisonta Parish, explores their expectations for spiritual support, and evaluates the implementation of relevant pastoral initiatives. Using a qualitative research approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that while pastoral care in Girisonta Parish is generally well-structured, it has not been specifically adapted to the needs of factory workers and migrants. Employees express the need for more flexible pastoral services, including the formation of a Catholic employee community, Masses outside regular working hours, and spiritual guidance that accommodates their work schedules. Despite the increasing presence of Catholic factory workers, no structured pastoral program currently exists to provide consistent support for them. This study highlights the urgency of establishing targeted pastoral initiatives to foster a stronger spiritual connection among Catholic migrant workers in Girisonta Parish.

Abstract

The document Apostolicam Actuositatem is a magisterial teaching issued by the Roman Catholic Church that addresses the apostolate of the laity. The present study responds to the contemporary issue of youth skepticism and apathy toward politics, government, and social engagement. The research subjects consisted of 34 members of Pemuda Katolik Komisariat Cabang Kota Semarang as respondents and six organizational board members as key informants. This study employed a mixed-method explanatory approach. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires using a quota sampling technique, while qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with six informants. The quantitative findings indicate that the internalization of Apostolicam Actuositatem influences apostolic motivation by 48%. The level of apostolic motivation among members in promoting the Pemuda Katolik Komisariat Cabang Semarang organization reached 68.2%. Furthermore, the internalization of Apostolicam Actuositatem toward the implementation of lay apostolate principles was measured at 48.4%. Qualitative findings from informants (N1–N6) reveal that members’ motivation in understanding Apostolicam Actuositatem is primarily driven by an inner calling, even among those who were previously unfamiliar with the document; this aligns with Article 1 of Apostolicam Actuositatem. Members’ efforts to promote the Pemuda Katolik Organization, both through internal organizational activities and initiatives outside the Church, correspond to Article 30. Moreover, the application of the principles of Apostolicam Actuositatem is implemented at every level of cadre formation within the Pemuda Katolik Organization of Komisariat Cabang Kota Semarang namely Mapenta, KKD, KKM, and KKL—in accordance with Article 22.
