Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the success of credit provision to horticultural farmers in Kemuningsarilor Village, Panti Sub-district, Jember District, East Java. Given the capital-intensive nature of horticultural farming, access to credit is essential to support productivity. The research employed a census approach, using a saturated sampling technique that included all 50 farmers in the population. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to evaluate the influence of farmer experience, education, income, credit interest rates, and credit terms on the success of credit provision. The results indicate that farmer experience, income, interest rates, and credit terms significantly affect the success of credit provision, while education shows no significant impact. This is because, in rural agricultural settings, success in credit provision is more strongly influenced by practical farming experience, financial capability, and institutional criteria than by formal educational attainment. These results highlight the importance of strengthening farmers’ financial readiness and providing tailored credit schemes that consider their experiential knowledge rather than relying solely on formal qualifications. Future research is recommended to explore additional socio-economic and behavioral factors, such as financial literacy, access to farming advisory support, and risk attitudes, which may further explain variations in credit success among farmers.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the level of technical, allocative, and economic efficiency in the utilization of production factors in shallot cultivation in Toronrejo Village, Junrejo District, Batu City. Data analysis was performed using Cobb-Douglas analysis. The results showed that the utilization of production factors simultaneously affected the production of shallots. The utilization of production factors of organic fertilizer partially affected the production of shallots. The average efficiency value of utilizing inputs such as land, seeds, organic fertilizer, inorganic fertilizer, labor, capital, and pesticides was 0.9981566. This means that the utilization of production factors must be technically efficient. The efficiency values of production factors such as land, seeds, organic fertilizers, and capital are greater than 1, which means that the means of production were not allocatively efficient. The use of production factors such as inorganic fertilizers, labor, and pesticides have efficiency values of less than 1, which means that they were not allocatively efficient. The production factors of land, seeds, organic fertilizers, and pesticides are not financially efficient, and inorganic fertilizers, labor, and capital are also not financially efficient.

Abstract

Corn as a pillar of the household-scale farmer economy not only serves as a source of food, but also as animal feed and industrial raw material. However, the productivity of hybrid corn in the drylands of Jetak Village (4-7 tons/ha) is still much lower than in other areas (8-10 tons/ha), indicating inefficient use of inputs. This study measured technical, allocative, and economic efficiency among 96 farmers using the Cobb-Douglas production function with stratified random sampling: <0.5 ha (n=33), 0.5-1 ha (n=30), and >1 ha (n=33). NPK fertilizer consistently dominated productivity (elasticity 0.318-0.394; p<0.01) at all scales. Technical efficiency increased from 0.846 (small land) to 0.879 (large land), indicating a productivity gap of 12-15%. Economic efficiency remains suboptimal (0.619-0.688) with a potential for improvement of 31.2%. Allocative analysis shows the highest NPM/Px ratio for urea fertilizer (5.81) on large-scale land, while labor is over-utilized (NPM/Px=0.80). Contribution of the study: identification of scale-based efficiency thresholds for dryland—expansion of critical land for small farmers (NPM/Px=14.17), nitrogen intensification for medium-sized land, and labor restructuring for large land areas. Interventions should focus on NPK optimization and precision fertilization.
