Abstract

Musculoskeletal problems are one of the complaints that are often felt by workers, especially people with jobs that require high physical activity (porters). From the results of observations made on the porters at Tirtonadi Terminal, it was found that most of them complained of muscle pain in the area around the shoulders and neck, of course this affects the comfort and productivity of working in the field so that the work carried out is not optimal. The aim of education is to reduce and overcome the pain felt by porters at Tirtonadi Terminal which can be done independently before and after carrying out work. Before providing education, the porters filled out the SPADI questionnaire first to measure the level of pain and difficulties experienced before and after providing education. The method used to provide education was in the form of direct explanations to 20 porters one by one in turn, with delivery media in the form of pamphlets and training simulations. The contents of the pamphlet include doing work exercises before starting work and giving warm water compresses after work. From the results of the education that has been carried out, the results show that many of them apply education regularly, but there are also quite a few porters who do not carry out education regularly. Porters need to be aware of the importance of warming up (work exercises) before doing their work to minimize pain and using warm compresses after work to relieve pain. The physiotherapy educational efforts that have been provided can be accepted and understood easily by the porters so it can be concluded that physiotherapy measures have been proven to reduce and overcome musculoskeletal complaints in Tirtonadi Terminal porters.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Several studies reported that obesity was linked to abnormal blood pressure. Obesity increases cardiovascular disease risk in adults and elderly. Body composition has been commonly measured using basic anthropometry, i.e body mass index (BMI). However, waist circumference (WC) is assumed to be more capable of capturing long-term visceral fat accumulation than BMI. Studies comparing BMI and WC to the risk of hypertension in the elderly are needed. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the risk of body composition using body mass index and waist circumference as risk factors for hypertension in the elderly. METHOD: A cross-sectional study was carried out in Surakarta, Central Java. A sample of 91 elderly was selected by convenience sampling. The dependent variable was hypertension. The independent variables included age, gender, body mass index (BMI), and central obesity (assessed by waist circumference). BMI and central obesity were used to measure body composition. Blood pressure was measured by a sphygmomanometer, body weight was measured by digital scale (kg), and body height was measured by stature meter (cm). Central obesity was categorized by waist circumference (WC in centimeter) measurement. The other variables were obtained from questionnaire. Comparison of body composition on hypertension were examined using simple logistic regression run on Stata 13. RESULTS: Elderly with central obesity (waist circumference ≥94 cm for males or ≥80 cm for females) had higher risk hypertension and it was statistically significant (OR= 3.07; 95% CI= 1.10 to 8.53; p= 0.032). CONCLUSION: Central obesity is significantly increase the risk hypertension in elderly.

Abstract

Waist circumference (WC) measurements in the elderly are uncommon and erratic. Furthermore, its correlation to hypertension has received less attention in Indonesia. This study attempted to investigate direct and indirect risk factors for high blood pressure in the elderly using structural equation modeling (SEM). A cross-sectional study was conducted in Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. The 297 elderly aged ≥60 is eager to take part. The path model of factors associated with blood pressure was analyzed using Stata 13. Male (b=-0.43; 95% CI=-5.67 to 4.81; p=0.872), age (b=0.52; 95% CI=0.12 to 0.93; p=0.012), and WC (b=0.35; 95% CI=0.17 to 0.53; p<0.001) directly affected systolic blood pressure (SBP). Male (b=1.83; 95% CI=-1.17 to 4.82; p=0.231), age (b=-0.03; 95% CI=-0.26 to 0.20; p=0.790), BMI (b=0.40; 95% CI=-0.03 to 0.83; p=0.067), and WC (b=0.04; 95% CI=-0.09 to 0.16; p=0.571) directly affected diastolic blood pressure (DBP). Increasing age, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC) are the important variables that influence blood pressure in older people. This study supports the evidence that body composition and weight control are necessary to prevent and control blood pressure in the elderly.

Abstract

Health screening is a form of monitoring children's growth and development, which involves evaluating growth and development status based on weight gain and addressing problems that may arise at each stage of a child's development. Physical health is measured by age, weight and height. The importance of conducting health checks on children early on is a crucial effort in detecting and preventing various health problems that may arise, including the problem of poor posture better known as bad posture. Bad posture is a condition in which the body's position deviates from the normal state which can cause various health problems. The possible negative consequences of bad posture include problems such as kyphosis, lordosis and scoliosis. Regular health checks on children, especially at early developmental stages such as in kindergarten, are important to identify early any potential health problems, including posture problems. By detecting such problems early, preventive measures can be taken immediately to avoid potentially more serious long-term impacts on children's health. Therefore, regular health check-ups in children are a necessity that cannot be ignored to maintain the health and well-being of future generations. In realizing the research results with quantitative methods, measurable and numerical-based data collection is involved to gain a deeper understanding of the posture characteristics of children in that age range. This provides a solid foundation for implementing appropriate preventive and posture corrective measures. The conducted research revealed intriguing findings regarding the posture of children at Aisyah Makam Haji 1 Kartasura Kindergarten. Among the observations: 56% of children were underweight, 10 children exhibited low arches on both feet, and 22% showed signs of scoliosis with a vertebral curve of 0°. While most children displayed normal limb length differences, some exhibited abnormalities in this aspect. These findings underscore the significance of posture screening for children aged 4-6 years, even if they seem physically healthy. Preventive measures, such as education for parents, are needed to prevent postural disorders that could potentially arise in the future.
