Abstract

This study discusses a pastoral approach based on the biblical metaphor "Shepherd the Flock of God" (1 Peter 5:2). This metaphor serves as a foundation for understanding the role and responsibilities of a church leader in shepherding the congregation. The aim of this research is to identify how the concept of shepherding God's flock can be practically applied in the context of modern pastoral ministry. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach, involving biblical text analysis as well as a literature review related to pastoral roles. Additionally, interviews were conducted with several church leaders to gain contextual insights into the application of this metaphor in daily ministry life. The findings indicate that the metaphor of the "shepherd" depicts a leader who serves with love, patience, and moral responsibility, and who must be able to protect, guide, and nurture their congregation. In conclusion, this metaphor-based pastoral approach emphasizes the importance of a close relationship between church leaders and their congregations, as well as the profound spiritual responsibility involved in nurturing the faith and lives of the members.

Abstract

This article discusses the sociological-ideological interpretation of 1 Corinthians 7:1-11, where Paul responds to the Corinthians' questions regarding marriage and celibacy. In this analysis, the social and ideological context of Corinthian society serves as the basis for understanding Paul's views. By considering the moral conditions and social structure of Corinth, the article examines how the local worldview influenced the interpretation of the text, as well as how the biblical text impacts the social life of the church. The research findings indicate that Paul's decisions about marriage and celibacy were not based on absolute principles, but rather on the specific sociological circumstances in Corinth at the time. Paul's perspective on marriage is also closely related to the Christian teaching on the sacred relationship between Christ and His church. This article emphasizes the importance of considering the social context when interpreting biblical texts, particularly in understanding issues related to family and personal relationships within the church community.

Abstract

The role of a mother is very important in shaping the character and personality of children. The narrative in Matthew 15:21-28 depicts the dedication of a Canaanite mother who humbles herself for the healing of her daughter. This story serves as a powerful representation of the essence of motherhood and an antithesis to the increasingly common phenomenon of being motherless in today's society. This research aims to explore the contribution of the Canaanite woman's narrative in understanding issues related to motherhood and the condition of being motherless. The methodology used is qualitative, with an in-depth analysis of the biblical text and its relevance to family complexities. The results indicate that this story offers a model of motherhood that emphasizes total dedication, humility, and persistence in seeking help. These values can be implemented through community support, parenting education programs that integrate spiritual values, and psychological support for mothers facing challenges in fulfilling their maternal roles. Furthermore, this narrative teaches that true motherhood has a strong spiritual dimension, reflecting responsibilities that go beyond the physical and emotional needs of children. Thus, this story not only functions as a historical narrative but also provides a comprehensive paradigm of motherhood that can address the crisis of being motherless in contemporary society.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aimed to re-read the Gospel text Mark 5:21-24, 35-43 from the perspective of a father's responsibility. This perspective emerged from researchers' concerns regarding the widespread phenomenon of fatherlessness in families. The method used in this research is the narrative criticism method. The research result showed that the narrative of Jairus' struggle to find healing for his daughter can be a reflection of a father's responsibility. From the result of this re-reading, it can be concluded that reading a text using a different approach and perspective can produce new meanings that are relevant to contextual needs.Abstrak. Abstract

In the context of a modern world increasingly marked by social fragmentation and individualistic tendencies, the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37) offers a radical ethical vision regarding love and the identity of one's neighbor. This article aims to analyze the theological message of the parable using a narrative interpretation approach, particularly through an examination of narrative structure, characterization, and the dynamics of social reversal presented by the text. The study's findings indicate that love in this narrative is not merely an emotional response but a concrete action that involves courage across social, religious, and ethnic boundaries. This parable rhetorically challenges exclusive paradigms within the early readers' community of the Gospel of Luke and redefines the concept of "neighbor" from a passive object of compassion to an active subject who initiates love. These findings are relevant for contemporary society in efforts to build an ethics of solidarity across identities, as well as providing a theological foundation for inclusive and transformative practices of love amid a global humanitarian crisis.

Abstract

The pericope in Luke 16:1–15, commonly referred to as the Parable of the Unjust Steward, presents a complex and challenging theological message. This study aims to explore the concept of faithfulness in small matters as taught by Jesus in this passage. By examining the historical, social, and economic background of the New Testament world and analyzing the rhetorical structure and literary features of the text, this research argues that Jesus' primary emphasis is not on cleverness, but on the moral and spiritual integrity required in managing entrusted resources. Faithfulness in minor matters is shown to be a crucial indicator of one’s readiness for greater responsibilities, revealing one's character and spiritual maturity. The passage underscores the Christian disciple’s calling to live a life of integrity, detachment from wealth, and full devotion to God. This study affirms that faithfulness in small matters plays a formative role in shaping the authentic character of a servant of God.

Abstract

Abstract

This article presents a biblical-theological analysis of 1 Timothy 6:6–21 with a focus on the ethical and spiritual challenges posed by wealth in the context of Christian ministry. The study investigates the apostle Paul's exhortation to Timothy concerning godliness, contentment, and the perils of materialism within the early Christian community. Through a close exegetical reading of the text, supported by historical-contextual insights and relevant Greek lexical analysis, the paper explores how the passage delineates the contrast between true spiritual wealth and the corrupting influence of greed. The research highlights Paul's call for ministers to pursue righteousness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness while maintaining a life free from the love of money. This study contributes to contemporary theological discourse on pastoral integrity, offering critical implications for ethical leadership, especially in ecclesial settings prone to commodification and spiritual compromise.

Abstract

AbstrakThis study aims to examine the theological meaning of the practice of giving thanks as part of the reorientation of a new life according to Colossians 3:13–17. In this section, Paul emphasizes that a new life in Christ must be realized through an attitude of gratitude that continuously colors all aspects of life. Gratitude is understood not merely as an emotional reaction to God's grace, but as a profound expression of the change in the identity of believers who have left the old man and are renewed according to the image of their Creator. In addition, an attitude of gratitude plays an important role in building harmony in the Christian community, strengthening relationships of love and peace among the congregation. Thus, gratitude becomes a real manifestation of faith, reflects dependence on God's grace and displays the power of the Gospel in everyday life. This study emphasizes that gratitude must be an active spiritual foundation, both in individual life and in community relationships, and functions as a living testimony that supports the church's mission in the world.
