Abstract

Abstract

The increasing number of congregants who rarely attend worship has become a serious challenge for many churches in maintaining spiritual engagement and community commitment. This study aims to identify the factors that cause congregants to distance themselves from worship activities and to explore strategies that churches can implement to reengage alienated members. Using a qualitative approach, this research involved in-depth interviews with 8 selected congregants who had demonstrated inactivity in worship, focusing on a case study at Church HKBP Pardamean. The interview findings revealed several key factors contributing to the lack of attendance, including the rising demands of modern life, individualism influenced by technology, and disappointment with internal church aspects. Based on these findings, the study recommends practical strategies for churches, such as personalized approaches and strengthening the sense of belonging among congregants. This article aims to provide guidance for churches in addressing the issue of congregational disengagement and developing a more inclusive pastoral approach.

Abstract

This study discusses a pastoral approach based on the biblical metaphor "Shepherd the Flock of God" (1 Peter 5:2). This metaphor serves as a foundation for understanding the role and responsibilities of a church leader in shepherding the congregation. The aim of this research is to identify how the concept of shepherding God's flock can be practically applied in the context of modern pastoral ministry. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach, involving biblical text analysis as well as a literature review related to pastoral roles. Additionally, interviews were conducted with several church leaders to gain contextual insights into the application of this metaphor in daily ministry life. The findings indicate that the metaphor of the "shepherd" depicts a leader who serves with love, patience, and moral responsibility, and who must be able to protect, guide, and nurture their congregation. In conclusion, this metaphor-based pastoral approach emphasizes the importance of a close relationship between church leaders and their congregations, as well as the profound spiritual responsibility involved in nurturing the faith and lives of the members.

Abstract

This article discusses the sociological-ideological interpretation of 1 Corinthians 7:1-11, where Paul responds to the Corinthians' questions regarding marriage and celibacy. In this analysis, the social and ideological context of Corinthian society serves as the basis for understanding Paul's views. By considering the moral conditions and social structure of Corinth, the article examines how the local worldview influenced the interpretation of the text, as well as how the biblical text impacts the social life of the church. The research findings indicate that Paul's decisions about marriage and celibacy were not based on absolute principles, but rather on the specific sociological circumstances in Corinth at the time. Paul's perspective on marriage is also closely related to the Christian teaching on the sacred relationship between Christ and His church. This article emphasizes the importance of considering the social context when interpreting biblical texts, particularly in understanding issues related to family and personal relationships within the church community.

Abstract

In the context of Israel’s liberation from Egyptian slavery, God is depicted as the victor who defeats Pharaoh through the drowning of the Egyptian army in the Red Sea. God's power, surpassing that of Egypt, underscores that this deliverance was entirely the result of His might, without direct intervention from the people of Israel. Through the narrative of Exodus 15:1-21, the author highlights the relationship between the song of salvation sung by Moses and Miriam and the destruction experienced by Egypt. This song is an expression of gratitude for the victory granted by God, showing His favor towards the Israelites. The author hypothesizes that the destruction of the enemy is a manifestation of God’s glory as a Divine Warrior, who fights against sin and brings salvation to His people. The theoretical framework includes an etymological and terminological analysis of the concepts of warfare, salvation, and song in the biblical context. Warfare is seen as a divine act to display God's glory through victory over enemies. Salvation is understood as liberation from both physical and spiritual oppression, ultimately fulfilled in the name of Jesus Christ. Song, as an expression of thanksgiving, reinforces the theme of salvation in the Exodus narrative, where the Israelites celebrate their deliverance by praising God. Overall, this study affirms that the event of Israel’s liberation is central to the Old Testament’s salvation history, with God serving as the Savior and Warrior who brings victory to His people.

Abstract

Salvation is a divine grace bestowed by God upon humanity through the sacrifice of His Son. Within Protestant doctrine, this salvation exclusively emanates from Jesus Christ. No individual possesses the ability to grant salvation to their fellow human beings. Through a qualitative research approach, the researcher conducts an examination of the concept of salvation to obtain a deeper and more comprehensive understanding. This study focuses on analyzing the concept of salvation within the context of two holy sacraments implemented in Protestant teachings. Based on the literature review derived from books and scholarly journals, this research concludes that salvation can only be obtained through Christ. Each individual who has received this gift of salvation is expected to actualize it in their daily lives as a manifestation of their identity as beings who have known and been saved by Jesus Christ.

Abstract

The role of a mother is very important in shaping the character and personality of children. The narrative in Matthew 15:21-28 depicts the dedication of a Canaanite mother who humbles herself for the healing of her daughter. This story serves as a powerful representation of the essence of motherhood and an antithesis to the increasingly common phenomenon of being motherless in today's society. This research aims to explore the contribution of the Canaanite woman's narrative in understanding issues related to motherhood and the condition of being motherless. The methodology used is qualitative, with an in-depth analysis of the biblical text and its relevance to family complexities. The results indicate that this story offers a model of motherhood that emphasizes total dedication, humility, and persistence in seeking help. These values can be implemented through community support, parenting education programs that integrate spiritual values, and psychological support for mothers facing challenges in fulfilling their maternal roles. Furthermore, this narrative teaches that true motherhood has a strong spiritual dimension, reflecting responsibilities that go beyond the physical and emotional needs of children. Thus, this story not only functions as a historical narrative but also provides a comprehensive paradigm of motherhood that can address the crisis of being motherless in contemporary society.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aimed to re-read the Gospel text Mark 5:21-24, 35-43 from the perspective of a father's responsibility. This perspective emerged from researchers' concerns regarding the widespread phenomenon of fatherlessness in families. The method used in this research is the narrative criticism method. The research result showed that the narrative of Jairus' struggle to find healing for his daughter can be a reflection of a father's responsibility. From the result of this re-reading, it can be concluded that reading a text using a different approach and perspective can produce new meanings that are relevant to contextual needs.Abstrak.
